I'd like to be able to limit access to a particular website, based on the time of day. I would also like to be able to password protect this if possible.So for instance, from 7am until 10pm daily, I can access URL... but after 10pm it redirects to 127.0.0.1 or something. And this configuration be protected by only allowing a certain user (other than root) to change the config?
View 7 RepliesI'm using Ubuntu x64 (dunno which version, but I don't think it matters) and I'm concerned about security with PHP.I remember using lighttpd and I had some mystic configuration and the secuirty was perfect for me - if one website gets hacked then the others are still safe (kinda).Now with apache2 if I enable safemode I'm still able to go outside web directory and actually I can go really far untill user/group matches.I tested the system with r57shell and I was able to mess up other websites.Is there a way to disallow access to other websites?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to configure my Linux router to restrict Internet access for one computer on my LAN. It needs to be restrictive based on the time of day and the days of the week. I am using the MAC address of the computer to single out the one computer that needs to be blocked. However, this is my first attempt at making any rules with iptables, and I am not sure if I am doing this right. If some one can take a look at this I would greatly appreciate it. This is what I have done so far.
Here is my thinking. Create a new target. Check the MAC address, if it is NOT the offending computer return to the default chain. If it is the offending computer check that we are between the allowed hours and dates and ACCEPT. If we are not within the time/date range then drop the packet.

Is it a good idea to route all traffic through the blocked_access chain? I do run other servers that are accessible from the Internet, so I am not sure how this setup will affect that. I also use shorewall on the router to setup iptables for me. How would I integrate this with shorewall?
I am using squid to block access when he is using the web browser. However, he is still able to play games(World of Warcraft) and the like.
I am using Debian sid, iptable(1.4.6), shorewall(4.4.6), kernel 2.6.32-trunk-686.
I'm trying to lock down SSH for a particular user who wants to use my server for some development, so I'm making him a little play area.
Problem is I'm having difficulties locking the account down.
I've implemented bashrc which appears to be what I wanted at first, restricting the user to a user directory of my choice, but I now find that firstly the user can't use cd at all, not even cd to directories within the users home directory.
But also I've found bashrc to be pretty pointless security wise because I can just type sh and then do what ever the hell I want? Such as cd / and then ls and see everything on the server.
So I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to this for me?
I want the user to be able to make directories and cd into them in their own user area but not cd .. or / out of their user area.
I recently installed Fedora - it seems like a nice interface and I want to experience the system before deciding whether I want to keep using it over my ever reliable Crunchbang, which gives me absolutely no grief whatsoever. However, it is nice to use an attractive interface now and again.So, here's my problem - I opted to install the ATI drivers when alerted to the restricted ones by the pop-up. I took note of how to disable them again if there were problems with the display after reboot. There was a problem with the display (black screen) and I can't get the command entered at boot time because the only command line environment I have an option for is GRUB. Grib does not recognize any of the 'aticonfig --initial -f' command that ATI instructed me to use to get things back to normal. How do I do this? I prsume others have been there and will know how to guide me. - getting the graphical interface to display better graphics. I want the eye candy that desktop effects give. I am hoping Fedora won't let me down here because I could simply continue to use Ubuntu which only gives one problem with the window resize delay.

My device is on the list of those supported, and I am trying to install ndiswrapper so that I can use the windows drivers. My problem is, my access is restricted. I would like to restrict access to the server to a few systems (access is restricted to select computers, not users). I first thought of using ssh key, but the key can be copied to another system hence that alone is not sufficient. I am having a dynamic IP, so simple IP based firewall blocking is also not possible. I was thinking about the possibility of using both SSH Key and IP based access. Is it possible to update the firewall rule whenever my ip gets changed?

I have dual boot Fedora 8/XP. My net seams to be moody only in my fedora sometimes I have wait as long as 30 sec for the page to load where as in my windows it's fine no such delay. I could create private/public keys for them, to SSH into my account, but I don't want them to have this power I found 'git-shell', which seems to be used for restricted access with git (although I'm not sure whether I understood the functionality).
My question is: Is it possible to configure SSH keys in that way, that the server runs them (and only them) in git-shell in a specified directory (using ~/.ssh/{config,authorized_keys})?
So that they can
- log in with their SSH key
- use git, execute scripts etc.
- use git push/pull from their private+school PC
- work only in a specific directory (like chroot) eg. ~/web-project/

After making a fresh install of Fedora 14 I can now only access some websites, others cannot be found.
I have spent hours trying to resolve this without success.
I just installed Fedora 15 and everything is working ok except i can't connect to some websites such as facebook or hotmail. I tried doing the same on windows and everything is ok there. recently I have bought a new wireless router and now I have problems connecting to some (secure) websites. I can't login to gmail and facebook while I am still able to connect to these sites using my old router. I have also tryed to connect to these sites using my new router on windows and it worked with no problem.It is really strange for me, although I don't know that much about networking. I am using Fedora 13 and a TP-Link (TD-W8901G) Wireless router and I have these problems using both wired, and wireless connections with this router.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of setting up my own Linux gateway/firewall using two nics eth0(external network) and eth1(internal network). The Linux gateway hands out ip addresses using dhcp3-server, and uses iptables to route the traffic correctly. Clients are able to connect and access the internet...everything is working great, HOWEVER I can't access my apache virtual hosts websites from the internal network? They work just fine if i access them from the outside world
I can type ip of the web server, 192.168.0.201 and it shows the first virtual host listed in my /sites-enables/000-default folder. but i can't use any DNS entries. I don't have any internal DNS servers running. This doesn't makes sense, because if i replace the linux firewall/router with my normal linksys wrt54G router it works just fine.
I have managed to configure AWstats to work from one server to access the log files for multiple websites on multiple servers and even managed to write a little front end php site to access all the different conf files. I want to know if there is a way of combing two conf files for the same site but are on two different servers in a loadbalanced situation. so my conf files look something like: [URL].. I have to monitor bandwidth for our websites and its gets tedious switching between the various conf files for the same site and totaling it up so I was hoping I could combine the output of both conf files on screen using some funky command in the awstats.pl script

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 on Dell Presario M2000 I have made sure that all updates have been done.
As the subject states, the admin account (mine which I'm posting to the forum with right now) can access the internet and see webpages. The user account on this laptop (my underaged sister who my parents don't want full access to the computer) will not access any webpages, it just continually looks like its loading.
I have made sure the wireless card drivers are installed and activated.
Also, I ran iwconfig and ifconfig and here are their results

These were both run from the user account. At this point it looks like its connecting to the internet through the wireless card as I was also able to run the update manager through the user account and have it download the updates (after putting in my admin password of course).
I have ubuntu 11.04 in my netbook and when I inserted reliance netconnect broadband usb modem,it automatically detected and after giving the necessary details it was connected..But I am not able to access any websites..On googling I found that I have to make changes to /etc/resolv.conf..But resolv.conf file is missing.
