Sep 1, 2011In windows, I was able to download a domain's html pages as pdf and even follow links as hyperlinks using Adobe Acrobat. Any such software for ubuntu?

OpenSUSE Network :: Samba: Only Domain Admin Can Save Profile
Apr 4, 2011I'm trying to replace a 2k3 server with openSUSE. So far I was able to get working DHCP, DNS, SQUID and SAMBA with LDAP backend.Samba works ok login users and creating home and profile folders but somehow only the Domain Admin (administrator) account will automatically save the profile. The administrator account belongs to the ntadmins group while the rest of the users belong to ntusers group.
When I change a common user from ntusers group to ntadmins the profile will save without problem. If I change it back to it's original group the profile will be read but not updated on log off.Folder permissions seems to be ok. The network share (\pdcprofiles.msprofile aka Z is being connected with no problem and all users can read and write from and to it.

Feb 19, 2010I have a Cent OS 5.4 32 bit final installed in my dedicated server.
I used to run lighttpd with php in my server until now and all was fine.But yesterday I changed my website which needs apache to run. So installed apache using yum install httpd command.
Then I added the virtual host name of my domain in webmin panel but when i try to run my php script in browser then its not opening php pages.
Instead it downloads php files like index.php when i open in browser.So I guess apache is not able to compile and run php pages. Only html pages are opening right now..

The server is behind a router with firewall i can connect to it using the external IP address but i like to use the two domain names if that is possible.

Jan 13, 2010I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu.It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

Well, that brought several questions to mind. So I understand you can bind an Ubuntu computer to a Windows domain, seems easy enough, whether you do it through Samba or the other guide I read that I kind of forget at the moment, but anyway...
I was just curious how Ubuntu interacts with domain users when on the windows domain. For example, if we have an Ubuntu machine on the Windows domain with a local user "administrator" and that's it, would any domain users be able to log into the Ubuntu work station, similar to how it is on Windows?

now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....

May 14, 2010I'm very new to Linux, and I have ran a Windows XP server before, with a Apache2 Server software for Windows. and didn't have any problems with it, but I really want to set this server up with Linux.
The server is running, but the only thing that comes up in the browser, is the html pages, the pages call all the images from a folder /images/ but for some reason I can't get it to pull the folder up. None of the graphics show on any of the pages.
I also have a VirtualHost setup, and have another website set up in the DocumentRoot with the 2nd site, but it won't come up ether, even tho it is listed as the 2nd VirtualHost, and have that folder set up as the DocumentRoot.
I'm just using IP Addresses for now till I get this all sorted out.So if I enter the IP the main page comes up, just no graphics. if I enter the IP Address/2ndSiteFolder/ I get a directory listing with the 2nd site folder listed, so now if I click on the 2ndSiteFolderName, it comes up as IP/2ndSiteFolder/2ndSiteFolder/ Now the 2nd site comes up, and so does all the Graphics for that site, even if I go to some of the other subfolders site. So its just weird. I don't know what I need to do to get this to work right.
I know it has to do with setting up the folders for VirtualHost, I just don't know what it is. I have been working on this for a week, and I'm not getting anywhere..

Jun 4, 2011I want to host 5 websites on my new virtual server so I have created 2 nameservers that point to my virtual server's IP addresses as a glue record. What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? If I do? Which particular records should I change? I'm running a Unix virtual server with a Plesk control panel.

I have a Linux machine which is on my network but not on my domain. I have configured SAMBA FILESERVER for file sharing purpose. I have a Windows XP PC which is on the domain(windows server) that I am trying to connect to a share on the Linux box. I supply my credentials but regardless of which login I use I always get Logon Failure. I have created an account on the Linux machine with the same user name and password as my domain account but so far no luck. Can I connect from a domain PC to a non-domain Linux box? Is there something else I should be checking?

Dec 30, 2010I'm working for a smallish non-profit that has gone through some recent growing pains. We have two sites that are currently without a domain controller, and no money for MS licenses, so I was thinking of trying to add a couple of additional Linux machines (we already run Linux for web services internally, and I've set up a test case previously to see if I could get a server to join the domain, which was a success) and was trying to find out if I can get them to act as Domain Controllers without replacing the domain. The main issue that I'm having at those locations is drive mappings are not happening correctly against our DFS file servers. The one other location that had this issue had it go away when we added a local DC. The domain is a Server 2008 domain.

So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.

Apr 14, 2011I'm working on a Soekris net4801 that is running an unknown distro of Linux. The kernel is 2.4.29, and iptables is v1.3.4.
I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:
/user/local/lib/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/lib/iptables
I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.
"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.
how I can save the iptables?

Feb 10, 2010I tried to make that as short and descriptive as I could. There are certain web pages that I try to visit on my Linux computer that either respond after more than a minute of waiting for a response or, more often than not, simply do not respond at all - leaving the browser "waiting for xxxxx". Yet when I try those same pages on my GF's Windows computer, connected to the same router/DSL connection, the pages load quickly and without problems. Both systems are running Firefox.. Apr 18, 2010after wrestling with several problems over the past few days of switching over to a portable version of Linux 9.10 (I'm running a Live USB created using Lili USB), and deciding between the UNR or the Desktop i386 releases (I eventually went with UNR because i386 will not load on my netbook and ends up corrupting itself), I now find myself with the interesting problem that Firefox will no longer load webpages.I'm using a wireless connection, and it worked about 4 hours ago, but doesn't any longer. It registers that it is connected (The network icon displays the connected information), but the webpages themselves will not load (And I don't know if any other web based application functions- I only bothered to check firefox).
And I know the connection itself is not to blame because I'm using it right now to post this message (Off of Windows 7).Any help that can be given would be appreciated. Except for these problems that come up I'm loving Ubuntu, and intend to use it inbetween classes and such.EDIT:No internet applications work, and the router does assign me an IP address while in Ubuntu. Also, the speed of the "Server not found" message indicates that it's not even trying to connect.
