Ubuntu :: Rhythmbox Terrible At Fetching Lyrics

May 26, 2010

I was wondering if there were any way of adding or changing where Rhythmbox gets its lyrics from as it never finds lyrics for any of the songs I listen to, making it a rather useless feature. If I recall correctly, Songbird was much better at actually getting hold of lyrics for songs I listen to, so is it possible to switch to whatever site Songbird (possibly a plugin for Songbird rather than it being native) gets its lyrics from? (Also, I just realised I posted this in the wrong section)

Ubuntu :: Terrible Sound Latency With Some Programs

May 15, 2010

It's an eMachines T2899 desktop, FIC AU31 motherboard, nForce2 chipset, AC97 sound (integrated), running Xubuntu 10.04 (wubi install), 2.6.32-22.I've got terrible sound latency (about one second between actions and sound) in some programs.Flash in both firefox and chrome (including ..... videos) and ZSNES (SNES emulator) are two offenders, as is Audacity.Videos played in the default "movie player" and VLC play with no delay, though.I've been told it could be an issue with the ALSA buffer size, or pulseaudio introducing latency... but I've no clue how to go about fixing it.Upon using the SNES9X emulator (which allows for choice of sound system)... Portaudio causes laggy emulation and bad sound latency. Open Sound System plays fine. SDL causes laggy emulation and bad sound latency. ALSA plays fine. Pulse Audio plays fine."sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio" did nothing, so I reinstalled it just in case.

Debian :: Flashplugin-nonfree Terrible Performance / No Spike In CPU

Jun 3, 2011

II installed flashplayer by every different method I can so far, and all of them have the same problem. This problem presents itself, for example, while playing a video on ...... As the video loads, flashplayer is fine, but as soon as it starts playing, the browser tab begins to run at roughly 1 frame per 10 seconds. When I turn the browser priority to maximum in System Monitor, it improves slightly, going to about 1 frame per second. The strange part is, my CPU and memory usage barely spike at all, to less than 30%. This happens regardless of browser (have tried iceweisel and chrome). It happens with hardware acceleration on, and off. I have tried installing flashplayer from the tar.gz on the adobe website, from the repository (all three packages), and manually placing the plugin in the browser myself. The issue presents itself the same every time.

My system specs are: 1.83GHz duel core intel centrino processor, 3GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600. Nothing fancy, but flash player performs as flawlessly as flashplayer can under windows (and also performed well in my previous Ubuntu 10.04LL install).

Debian Configuration :: Intel GM45 Terrible Performance.

Jun 7, 2010

Ok first off, I love debian, but on my new notebook I am getting a little frustrated with the terrible, video performance.Direct rendering is enabled on both systems, and openGL is working (I can if I wanted to use compiz etc...) fine on both systems, just running slow on debian.

I have tried Lenny, Squeeze and Sid, I have compiled the intel driver (and Mesa3D) from git and got it working (I am sure its working because its given me a slight boost), I ahve also tried building the latest stable (and RC2) kernel. If I install ubuntu 9.10 I get pretty decent 3D performance, its not ground breaking, but hey its an intel chipset so I am not expecting to kick the latest nvidia / ati card's backside.I really dont want to use ubuntu, I find it unstable when compaired to debian, but I also want to be able to play the odd game when I am bored, and at the moment I just cant do that under debian

Fedora Networking :: Having Terrible Time Getting IP Address For Eth0

Dec 19, 2009

I am trying to get networking up on an old PII which I have successfully installed with FC4. There is a link and activity on the onboard interface because I see the indicator lights. The controller is a 3Com PCI 3c905 Boomerang 100baseTx @ 0xdc80.The only message returned by dmesg about eth0 is "Dropping NETIF_F_SG since no checksum feature."The driver module, 3c59x, is loaded as well as the mii module that depends on it.There is something about "unknown parameter`irq'" in the dmesg text regarding the driver.I noticed that eth0 is sharing an IRQ with the UHCI Host Controller. That should not be a problem, but it should not be necessary. And I could do away with USB if this is a conflict and that is the easiest way to solve it.When I drop to console at runlevel 3, and call dhclient, which is installed, I get a message telling me there is no reply to the dhcp request.I don't think the problem is on the router/switch side.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Screen Fonts And Colors Also Look Terrible Compared To Windows / Ubuntu

Jul 14, 2010

I have used Ubuntu and Linux Mint for quite some time now until I got a new machine. Some friends told me to try OpenSUSE because it has really been polished over the last few years.Install went smoothly got everything working properly except for my video card. My video card is an ATI HD4890 with sound support over HDMI. I had the sound working in Ubuntu using the non-oss ATI drivers. I was wondering if someone could please teach me how to install them again here on OpenSUSE 11.3. My screen fonts and colors also look terrible compared to Windows or Ubuntu.

Is there a way I can make it look better? I remember CCC (Catalyst Control Center for ATI) had two color formats (RGB and YCbCr). I had to set it to YCbCr because my screen is an HDTV and it looked much cleaner than RGB. Is there a way I can acheive similar results with OpenSUSE?

Slackware :: (rhythmbox:15745): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Could Not Open Device /dev/radio0

Aug 8, 2010

we were watching Clint Eastwood in Pink Cadillac on DVD. Earlier, I had been checking out the streaming internet radio on my roommates Mint laptop using Rhythmbox, and found it to be pretty cool. Usually, if I stream any music, it's just from the CBC (like the U.S.'s NPR), so I just stream it directly from them, but all the stations on rhythmbox (there's a whack of them) got me interested. At the start of Pink Cadillac, I proposed myself a challenge: Could I manage to get rhythmbox (a GNOME application) to work on my Slack64 -current box, before the movie ended? There's probably (maybe?) a similar app that installs and works more natively on Slack, but that's not the point; I wanted to try installing rhythmbox in < 2 hrs. Well, I got it installed finally, *just* at the end of the movie credits, but it won't play! And sometimes it segfaults. So, I wonder if anyone has any tips about what I might be missing or whatever.

Here's what I typically get when I first start it up (though it starts & runs OK):

Code:

sasha@reactor: rhythmbox
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".
(rhythmbox:15745): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed
(rhythmbox:15745): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to grab media player keys: Could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.SettingsDaemon': no such name

[code].....

Seems even on systems with some sort of 'natural' support for installing this thing, a lot of people are getting the same or very similar errors, but I haven't found a solution (obviously - I wouldn't be posting otherwise ) but people, myself included, have discovered that there doesn't seem to be a 100% accurate list of *required* dependencies for rhythmbox; it needs stuff that it doesn't tell you it needs.

EDIT: Disclaimer (just to cut the 'dependency-hell' arguments off at the pass, so to speak): This is just a fun experiment for me. I don't suggest Slackware newbies start trying to install <xyz Gnome application> into their Slackware boxes unless you want to spend HOURS fixing stuff like this, and you want to have fun doing it, and have it maybe bork your box up. And if you *do* decide to try it anyways, don't blame Slackware for giving you dependency hell. Gnome doesn't come with Slackware (here's the ChangeLog). I like Slackware exactly the way it is - it comes with more than enough apps to satisfy most people, all nicely working out of the box, so installing stuff like this is not really necessary - but I'm choosing to do this one anyway, and am not deterred by this "mess" of stuff. If this dependency stuff isn't your 'cup of tea', an 'automatically-dependency-resolving' distro might be better for you; I prefer to mess my machine up on my own, rather than let my package manager do it for me.

Software :: Add Lyrics To Mp3 Tag Using EyeD3?

Mar 6, 2010

how to add lyrics to an mp3 tag using eyeD3. I want a CLI program so I can use it in GUIs like Rhythmbox or ipod/creative/etc. Or in a non-GUI console. The eyeD3 man page is pretty short on this:

--lyrics=[LANGUAGE]ESCRIPTION:LYRICS

Add (or remove when LYRICS is "") a comment. Note that the argument value MUST always contain exactly two : char- acters to delimit the fields even when the default language is being used. The DESCRIPTION string is the lyrics title. The optional LANGUAGE string MUST be a three-character ISO 639 language code. The default is "eng" for English.

A tag may not have more than one lyrics frame with the same DESCRIPTION and LANGUAGE values.

Now, when I run eyeD3 --lyrics=eng:these_lyrics:lyrics_file.txt some_file.mp3 it doesn't work. eyeD3 -v

does not show the lyrics. I just started using Rhythmbox and it will download lyrics just fine but I'd like to be able to imbed the lyrics in the mp3 tag so I don't have to do this every time.

Ubuntu :: Scrolling In Select Applications (lyrics Pane)

Jun 11, 2010

I'm not sure if this is a known issue or not, but I have a strange problem when I scroll through certain applications. For example, whenever I scroll through songbird's lyrics pane or add-ons pane (does not affect the main library pane), the bottom 1/5 scrolls while the top 4/5 stays static. The same applies scrolling up, the top 1/5 scrolls and the rest stays static (the middle never moves either way I scroll).

I've tried using arrow keys to scroll, but it is the same issue. I vaguely remember another app that had this problem (can't think of it at the moment), so I don't think it's a songbird glitch. Does anyone else have this problem or a solution to it?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Banshee Lyrics Extension Not Working

The problem, then, is that although the Lyrics option is available and does something, it doesn't display actual lyrics!

Ubuntu :: Evolution Double Fetching Mail - Locks Up?

Jun 14, 2010

Within the last few days, Evolution barely opens, and every message has a duplicate message. The duplicate shows as unread, whether I read the original message or not. All duplicates occur only for messages received prior to Wednesday late PM (about four days ago). My in-box was already large, and the program now takes forever to open. In its attempt to get all the messages, it shows:

Fetching mail (...)
Generating message list (...)
Storing folder (...)

I've watched the system monitor, and I'm open to suggestions if looking for something specific could help. When I first attempt to open the program, it grabs a substantial portion of the CPU as status "running" or "uninterruptible." If I let it grind away for a while (15 or more minutes), the program opens, and has the double entries and continues to labor to get the new e-mail. In the most recent try, the program opens, and eventually is able to get mail.

This recent problem MIGHT be related to traveling, when I switched to working off-line for a while, and was usually hibernating the machine in between uses, rather than shutting down. Also, I resorted to checking mail via a web mail program at one point.

Could I have hit the wrong option about synchronizing folders? Default is "do not synchronize." When off-line, I only want to read and answer messages from the inbox, and have them sent from the outbox when I again have access. What is the proper way to do this? I don't have any messages in folders except a few draft e-mails.

I'm running Evolution 2.26 on Jaunty. What did I do wrong, and how do I fix it! PS: Is there a more specific forum for Evolution?

Software :: Script To Download All Lyrics Of MP3 Directory

Jul 29, 2011

I want a script to download all the lyrics to all the mp3s in a directory. Many things turn up with a web search, most of them being plug-in scripts for various music clients. I read this page, which got me started: [URL]. It has been the closest match to that for which I'm looking.Unfortunately it's kinda old. So I looked at the source code of ncmpcpp, a console MPD client that can retrieve lyrics. Here's where I am so far. Running this URL in a web browser: [URL]

Produces this output:
-<LyricsResult>
<artist>Aerosmith</artist>
<song>Amazing</song>
<lyrics>I kept the right ones out
An[...]</lyrics>
<url>http://lyrics.wikia.com/Aerosmith:Amazing</url>
<page_namespace>0</page_namespace>
<page_id>6337</page_id>
<isOnTakedownList>1</isOnTakedownList>
</LyricsResult>

As you can see here in the <lyrics> tag only the first part of the lyrics of the song "Amazing" by Aerosmith show up in the result. I'm wondering at this point why it only shows some and not all of the lyrics. If I can whip this I can proceed with the rest as explained in [URL] to which I referred earlier. I have only a dial up internet connection and it's discouraging to start up the connection just for the lyrics to one or two songs. I've downloaded many already using the lyrics search feature I compiled ncmpcpp with.
