Ubuntu Multimedia :: Banshee Lyrics Extension Not Working
Aug 29, 2010
I installed the banshee-extension-lyrics addon from the repos and it doesn't seem to have any effect on Banshee. I've searched through Banshee's Preferences and the Lyrics option is already checked under the Extensions tab, but it doesn't work.
There is an option for the lyrics to be displayed is in the context pane, but it always says the same thing:
Quote:
Song Name Lyric
[URL]
Powered by LyricsPlugin [URL]
The problem, then, is that although the Lyrics option is available and does something, it doesn't display actual lyrics!
The lyrics plugin doesn't work in Banshee 1.7.3. It did seem to work in one of the earlier builds but not in any of the recent builds. When I try to activate the lyrics, Banshee says 'waiting for playback to begin'. The lyrics never appear.
Basically when trying to activate Normal or Extra visual effects on a new karmic installation, I get the error message "The Composite extension is not available".
I installed Banshee 1.6.0. The equalizer presets change the position of the sliders, but I am unable to grab with the mouse any of the sliders individually and set them manually.
I am trying to uninstall/reinstall banshee. It is not playing nice with my setting sine yesterday.I can't even change the login name of my last.fm account within banshee anywhere.Everytime I uninstall/reinstall it, banshee just continues to reuse my non-working settings.
i m planning to formatting my machine.and backuping everything.is there any way to back up catches lyrics. there are 2000 lyrics. and i cant afford to loose them all. so any thing that i can do about it ?
how to import, link, save and display the lyrics of the song being played? I am using VLC for all audio and video files. If VLC does not have this functionality any other media player will do.
I copied the files to the mentioned directory ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
I tried setting the file permissions to full
Code: david@aitdes2:~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/gnomeshell@pidgin.im$ ls -l total 24 -rwxrwxrwx 1 david david 14219 2011-04-29 18:31 extension.js -rwxrwxrwx 1 david david 163 2011-04-29 18:31 metadata.json -rwxrwxrwx 1 david david 177 2011-04-29 18:31 stylesheet.css
When i have enable xinerama for 2 displays and i enable visual effect it says The "Composite extension is not available" but i have enabled it in "xorg.conf" but effect are working with not enabled xinerama.
Here is my xorg.conf
Code: # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildd@palmer) Fri Apr 9 10:35:18 UTC 2010 Section "ServerLayout" # Removed Option "Xinerama" "0"

i just downloaded and installed opensuse 11.3 64 bit kde on my laptop.
all my hardware seems to be working fine.
i installed the drivers for my nvidia video card, and 3d is working along with kde's desktop effects.
i installed all my favourite firefox extensions including video downloadhelper downloadhelper - media download firefox extension an extension that can download videos from videos and other video sites.
all of my installed firefox extensions seem to be working except video downloadhelper.
when i try to download videos with it nothing happens.
previously i had opensuse 11.2 gnome 64 bit installed on my laptop, and the video downloadhelper extension worked fine.
i think this problem might have something to do with the way opensuse integrates firefox with kde.
I've been trying to get the dual monitors to work the way I want them to, so far no luck. I read that xinerama would enable dragging between two X screens so I went to System -> Preferences -> Monitors and clicked the box for xinerama. Rebooted and now the top panel is on the other screen and, more importantly, I can't access the monitor controls anymore. When I click on Monitors I get an error message that says "Could not get screen informaion, RANDR extension is not present"I love Ubuntu, but the work required just to get it doing what I need it to do is tough to soldier through.
When trying to play a MP3 file without extension, mplayer shows this message:
Quote:
$ mplayer file MPlayer SVN-r29237-4.4.1 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team mplayer: could not connect to socket mplayer: No such file or directory
[code]....
It does not happen with all the files I've tested, but only some of them, is there an option to indicate mplayer that the file is actually in mp3 format?
I got around 6,000 songs that I copied from my ipod to my external hard drive through rhythmbox, but for some reason it didn't copy over any extensions (all of my music files are mp3's) so I was wondering what would be a really simple way to add the extension to all the files in the music folder. My folders are setup like /Music/Artist/Album/song.mp3 (well right now there is no .mp3 but ya get the point
1). vlc player not working properly..when i play the video in vlc audio is not clear its strucks every few min.. but video is moving nice....how to solve this problem i'm newbie to linux open suse
2)when i play Mp3 songs in banshee its good but some times its hang...
3)how to restore the linux?(i mean how to restore the operating system)
I got about 30 bucks worth of iTunes giftcards I'd like to redeem, but Apple doesn't have iTunes support for linux. I installed it via wine, but I can't get the itunes store to open up. I've been trying for several hours to get a workaround, with no success, as follows:
1) iTunes on Wine (didn't work, like I said) 2) Sharp Musique (old thread, all the links were broken and it's not in my Synaptics repos) 3) Banshee iTunes Store extension*****
This last one with Banshee seems promising, but I'm getting nowhere. I've downloaded the third-party extension, installed the .deb, and followed the directions on the banshee webpage. Still, when I go under Edit>>>Preferences>>>Extensions, it doesn't show up. I found the install called "iTunesMusicStore.dll" in /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.Plugins, and I've moved it to ~/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-001/addin-data, but it still won't show up in the plugins.
I use Ubuntu for my programming and work but want to watch .movs or listen to .mp3s... only problem is the anti-circumvention law in the USA. So what I'm really trying to find out is what's legal and what's not? is reverse engineering an mp3 file to a file that ubuntu can read illegal?
This should be easy but despite all the hints and tricks I've read, I cannot make this work. I have 130+ files with the names filename.avi.001, filename.avi.002, filename.avi.003 all the way up to filname.avi.132. How do I join them? A simple cat command does not work, neither does avimerge or any other utility I can find. I'm guessing because the file extension is a number and not .avi. Is there and easy way to rename them all and then join them? I can't be the only one with this issue but I've scoured the forums and found nothing.
Banshee 1.7.5 supports the ipod touch and iphone but i can not figure out how to get it on Ubuntu. Its not in synaptic yet and i can not compile from source because it always says
I'm using Banshee for my music and video collection because it works and looks much better than Rhythmbox in my opinion. The only thing that refuses to work (correctly) is the audiobook-feature. I have all my audiobooks (different formats - m4b, mp3, ...) stored in a special folder. The subfolders have no distinct order, sometimes it is author/title, sometimes author - title/ and some books even are in my audiobooks root-folder. I have selected the audiobook folder in the banshee preferences but no audiobooks are shown in banshee. I tried changing the selected folder, changing the structure of the subfolders, but nothing helped. The only thing that worked was importing the audiobooks into the music library and take them to the audiobooks-section in banshee using drag&drop. But when I removed them from my music library, they were also removed from the audiobooks section. This can't be the right way, because in that casse the option to select the audiobooks-folder in the preferences would be useless. What is the right (intended) way to get audiobooks into banshee?
My music is stored on a NAS on my home network. I am trying to get Banshee to see my MP3's on the NAS. It looks like Banshee only will support local folders. So, is a sym link (symbolic link) in a local folder be the solution? If so, what's the syntax? I know the basic form is ln -s <dir 1> <dir 2>. Ubuntu's file browser sees the folder as 'smb://192.168.1.200/volume_1/level1/level2/level3/MP3's' I haven't had any success trying to create a sym link to the NAS folder.
Or, am I approaching this totally wrong and can Banshee support the NAS without a sym link?
I'm using kubuntu 9.10 and I know there was a thread a while back about someone having the same problem with ubuntu. Unfortunately I can't get the ubuntu solution to work with kubuntu
I'm having a problem with banshee. It's doubling podcasts. Also it says that three different podcasts have the same size and length as each other(which they don't) Unfortunately I can't download to test them yet as my internets slow till midnight.
In screenshot 1 you can see the podcast doubled when viewing all podcasts. However when i go directly into the Desert island discs feed it only displays one, which is correct(screenshot two)
I'm cleaning up my music library and deleting duplicates and during that process I accidentally deleted the wrong song. Is there some way to undo this process? Banshee gave me no warning, and the trash is empty. I'm assuming there's a command I can use to recover the file, but as I'm a complete noob, I need some assistance.
after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 banshee does not see my Ipod anymore, which is a nano video 3g one. Rhythmbox works though, gtkpod not. I thought I had to install libgpod-dev and libgpod2, but the second library is not available anymore in synaptic. I have installed libgpod4, libgpod-common, -dev.
so I'm enjoying the new Banshee grid list which is really great, but with just one problem. It displays multiple cover art, so I have a really lot of picture for just one album with various artists. I'd like there to be just one, can it be done?
When I try to play anything in banshee it crashes with the error:
Code: ================================================================= Got a SIGSEGV while executing native code. This usually indicates a fatal error in the mono runtime or one of the native libraries used by your application. =================================================================
Same thing happens with Listen and Rhythmbox, but with a segmentation fault.
Amarok doesn't even get past the splash screen, but that's more or less okay because I'd rather stick with gnome.
Guayadeque is the only decent music player that works, and even it isn't without its issues. Audacious also works, but I don't like Audacious(the whole "one big playlist" system... ew).
Of course if I had my way I'd skip gnome music players entirely and go with foobar2000, but wouldn't you know it, that doesn't work either. [URL]
I'm using 10.04 beta, but these problems were present on 9.10 too.
I just added the liveradio extension to banshee which contains both magnatune and shoutcast support.
Magnatune works perfect..but for shoutcasts i can see all stations lists and load them ..but when i click play it stucks in contacting status .. it suddenly worked only one time and then it does not work.
