CentOS 5 Networking :: Server Lagging After Backup (RTL8111/8168B REV 02)
Jun 21, 2009
I have 2 dedicated servers, one with RTL8111/8168B (rev 02) and one with RTL8111/8168B (rev 01) both running centos 5.3, the problem is like this, all things run great on the dedicated server with NIC RTL8111/8168B (rev 02) until we run backup (cpanel backup) after the backup is finish the server lags , no high load, just lags, the server is a 8 GB ram, i7 quad core, so there is no load problem or someting like this, the second server has also cpanel on it and it has no lag but it has RTL8111/8168B (rev 01) , we think that the problem is with the RTL8111/8168B (rev 02) should we update the driver ?
Here is the output from it:
2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 x86_64 x86_64
06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 02) .....
This week I picked up a Dell Studio Hybrid and installed CentOS on it. I originally used 5.0 since I already had the DVD and the network card wasn't recognized at all (lspci recognized it but the card didn't show up in system-config-network). I then downloaded the 5.2 DVD and installed that. The network card then showed up in system-config-network but it still didn't work. If DHCP is enabled it tells me that no link is present, and if I manually configure it, I still can't ping the router. lspci reports the following about the network card:
I put Fedora 10 on it and the network is working fine, but I'd rather run CentOS on this machine. Is the issue likely to be fixed with CentOS 5.3 or should I just stick with Fedora?
I am running a mail server and my POP3 clients have started complaining of slow speeds, about 10 days back. This prompted me to take remedial action on many fronts, finally I decided to look at the link itself.Attempts to force the NIC into full duplex mode using ethtool have failed. The command runs and throws me back to the prompt, but the NIC remains in half duplex mode.
Command that I have tried: ethtool -s eth1 speed 100 duplex full autoneg on modprobe -l r816*:
I have an MSI Megabook M662. Can't get my wireless working. I have "enabled" checked, but can't view any connections. I don't have wireless at home, I'm trying to make this work for free connections at the library, etc. From the Help Menu troubleshooting I tried:
This reports Disabled, and the advice is to check that device is on. But I just want to roam for service, I don't have my own wireless at home. I thought I might need to use ndiswrapper but I cannot locate a driver for this card info:
I've been having problems trying to connect to my home network with my onboard NIC. No solution given on the forum has helped me so far.. I just can't seem to connect to the network and I have no idea how to fix it. My NIC is recognized (lsmod shows r8168 is loaded) but when I choose 'auto ethernet' nothing happens .I hope there is someone that can help me because It's a pain to not have internet access...
I'm experiencing very slow network speeds in one direction (out) on a clean install of debian.
iperf client running on laptop connecting to server with issue: Code: Select all$ iperf -c 192.168.10.187 -d ------------------------------------------------------------ Server listening on TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 128 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to 192.168.10.187, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 129 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 5] local 192.168.10.131 port 55340 connected with 192.168.10.187 port 5001 [ 6] local 192.168.10.131 port 5001 connected with 192.168.10.187 port 52664 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 5] 0.0-10.0 sec 247 MBytes 207 Mbits/sec [ 6] 0.0-11.5 sec 1.00 MBytes 730 Kbits/sec
I've tried with different cables on the server, no luck. Also note that the laptop gets full speed to speedtest.net as per my internet subscription (75/75 gbit fiber), so the laptop can be ruled out as a problem since it gets more than 75X performance to the internet compared to the local server.
The main purpose of this server is to be a virtualbox host. I've set up one guest system and ran iperf between the host/guest (bridged network). It gives better numbers, still the host -> guest direction is much slower than it should be:
Code: Select allClient connecting to 192.168.10.187, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 108 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 3] local 192.168.10.163 port 48573 connected with 192.168.10.187 port 5001 [ 5] local 192.168.10.163 port 5001 connected with 192.168.10.187 port 48856 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.65 GBytes 1.42 Gbits/sec
The Realtek RTL8111 wireless does not work in Mint 10 or Ubuntu 10.10. Works perfectly in Mint 9 and Ubuntu 10.04. No proprietary driver necessary. Has anyone managed to get it working in Ubuntu 10.10? : You can click the one you want to connect to and enter your security key. I just use WEP because it's easy. I enter the key and the system just tries to connect until it times out. You can repeat this process indefinitely. Wired works fine but after any available updates are installed, still no wireless capability.
I installled Ubuntu 10.4.1 on a brand new computer with a Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller on a Foxconn G41MXE motherboard. and I have been unable to connect to wireless network. I have gone through the wireless trouble shooting guide to no avail. When i "check for device recognition" i get the following (note the is no CLAIMED UNCLAIMED ENABLED OR DISABLED)
I'm looking for a simple solution to backup my CentOS Server (5.x) on a daily base to a mounted disk. I found the glastree tool but I have no clue if it will work on CentOS.All recommendations, tipps, hints and maybe scripts are welcome. Unfortunatelly I'm an Linux newbie and starting with Linux CentOS a couple of weeks ago
My internet keeps keeps lagging. Sometimes it's good but most of the other time it lags. I am using Broadcom BCM4306 wireless drivers. My signal is always atleast 80% or higher.
My wireless download rate is absurdly low (0.3 mbps) compared to a faster upload rate (1.5 mbps). My girlfriend's laptop running windows gets much higher download rate (20+ mbps).
on my server I have atMail and a intranet site being hosted using mySQL for the database locally, and obviously backing it up would be a good thing. I got the backup package from the list if you use the add/remove software called dump-0.4.etc.. can't seem to find much on how to use it, set it up, nothing. Granted I could be looking for the wrong thing which I'm sure is the case. As of now it's looking like a USB drive is going to be my only option, that will change in the future as this "project" goes further (we are a windows shop trying out Linux, and the next step is going to be adding another server that's a file server at that point we'll probably go to NAS for the backup and then transer that to a USB for offsite/secondary backup).
I have re-installed our operating system (CentOS 5) ,what is the best way to restore our Samba server? Can it be as simple as copying the smb.config and smbpasswd files back into the /etc/samba directory? That's what I am hoping. If I just copy the smb.config and the smbpasswd files back to the samba directory will the machine trusts, users and passwords just work? If not, what is the proper procedure for restoring. Actually i want to make CentOS 5.3 as my Domain Controller, I want to test all Scenario in case of any disaster of DC before putting it into production environment. I have some queries as:
1. Is CentOS 5 is more stable than RHEL 5 etc.
2. How can i take back up of entire samba server if need it in case of any disaster. How can i restore it.
3. How can i use logon scripts like GPO in windows servers.
4. How can add users in samba server and linux at one time with one command.
5. tell me any Web based samba administration tool other than SWAT.
Have been playing with Centos 5 and finally got it installed and have done most of the updates. Before I proceed much further it would be nice if I could create a backup/install disc of how it is now. No Data, just the setup and software used etc.Have a dvd rw on the server.I recall mondo rescue installed years ago on a linux server we used.
I have a finely working CentOS server. I want to clone the complete OS (over network) so that I can use it for same functionality on several other machines..
I have a CentOS 5.5 server that has just recently been updated to 5.6 running PostgreSQL 8.4 and Drupal for an internal website. The server is also acting as a shared network storage between the Linux server and Windows desktops with Samba.
I just recently purchased a license to run Symantec Backup Exec System Restore 2010 for Linux and the only operating systems that are supported are RedHat and Suse Linux.
Does anyone know of a nice open source solution that we can use to create backup images of the server?
In the event of a server crash, we want to be able to rebuild the server via a bit-by-bit backup image.
Client has a server running 5.5 (I think) and it they moved locations. This server is used in other locations (state) via ssh tunnel as well so they can all access files.
When attempting to boot up I get screenshot 1 (superblock errors)[url]
They supposedly have a backup on a hot swap scsi and I want to know how/if I can restore it using that backup if I cant fix the superblock boot/error issue.
After I spent some time discovering The BIG BANG of Universe and The Meaning of Life :
I managed somehow to create a script to make some backup of files on server and TAR it and then FTP the archive to another location FTP server and then emails result.
It also measures time needed to complete it and deletes archive older than XX days (set in find -mtime +20) and makes incremental backup every weekday and FULL on Sundays (which suits me bcoz no heavy load).
Files for TAR to include and exclude are in txt files listed each line separate name:
i`m trying to set up a Central Backup Server with BackupPC installed on CentOS 5.6 x86_64, My CentOS has Samba3x / Winbind integrated with Active Directory i found this nice Wiki http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/BackupPC , to get my BackupPC installed. after installing RPMForge's repo and settin` up the priorities to the repos, http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities i get the following error regarding Samba3x Conflicts , i dont wanna miss up my Samba Configuration to install BackupPC, even --skip-broken option does not work for me
I have a CentOS5 server with a 1tb hard drive. There is only 80gb of data on that huge drive and now I want to make a bare metal recovery backup using AcronisMy question is, how can I estimate the amount of time the backup will take and the size of the image file? Is it based on the size of my drive or is it based on the amount of data on the drive?
Does anyone know of any decent enterprise level backup solutions for Linux? I need to backup a few servers and a bunch of desktops onto one backup server. Using rsync/tar.gz won't cut it. I need like bi-monthly full HDD backups, and things such as that, with a nice GUI interface to add/remove systems from the backup list. I need basically something similar to CommVault or Veritas. Veritas I've used before but it has its issues, such as leaving 30GB cache files. CommVault, I have no idea how much it is, and if it supports backing up to a hard drive rather than tape.
Some time ago, while I was still using Ubuntu 8.10 I began accessing Internet through a proxy server. Even though I had set my system proxy settings - including authentication - to pass the proxy, my online backup service (Jungle Disk) stopped connecting. I finally figured out that I had to include proxy port in the Jungle Disk Desktop tool's configuration (like this: 192.168.0.1:8080). That worked fine until I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 - with the identical proxy setup. This time I can't get any connection at all. Here's the Jungle Disk report:
Now i want to create a resue disk for my Centos5.5i think mondoArchive tool is best for this job.i installed mondo by usingyum install mondoand it is intalled successfullybut i cant see it inApplication>sytem toolshow can i run it in a GUI mode.
I have installed a linux server in my office to run 16 machines. Its main use will be a internal mail server but will be also running websites.
I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 server x64 and have got apache running.
I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.
i am not able to port 8080 on my CentOS VPS server.I have followed all the instuctions as mentioned on iptables wiki page. Also I am able to telnet my ip address and port number, But can not access from browser.
I downloaded a video recently, and in the description, the person uploading the torrent said the audio lagged a little bit. Well I couldnt find another torrent of it, so I went ahead and downloaded it. The audio is off by like .1-.3 seconds. How can I fix this in VLC? I have V 2.28.1.I went through the repositories and redownloaded VLC, but I cant even get the advanced options open. Ive been using Ubuntu for a few months now. I remember when I had windows I could go into the advanced options and manually change the timing for the audio, but like I said, I cant even get into the advanced options on this one.
