Ubuntu Installation :: How To Install Remix From Usb
Apr 14, 2010
I'm trying to install ubuntu remix on an Asus Eee PC 1005P. I've downloaded the files from ubuntu and copied them to a usb stick. I have changed the boot order and still windows 7 comes on automatically.
I have tried several times installing ubuntu netbook remix on my netbook and have followed guides step by step but it dosn't work (screen goes black, flashing hyphen). Only thing i might be doing wrong is using an external 320gb hdd that i had previously formated to fat32 instead of a usb pendrive. Is this the problem, note i dont have a pendrive large enough.
Can I install the netbook remix without windows? All the instructions talk about putting it onto a flash drive and using Windows. Can I just use an external CD drive and install onto a new partition? If so, will it handle all the GRUB dual-boot stuff on installation or will I have to do something special for that?
My first Netbook Remix installation (though not my first Ubuntu by far) and it seems to have installed the Desktop version.I downloaded the Netbook Remix 10.10 iso and installed via usb onto an emachines atom netbook. Did I miss a step? Is there a hidden option to select UNE instead of Desktop?
I just recently downloaded Ubuntu Netbook edition 10.10 to dual boot with my Windows 7. I successfully installed it and have both running, but it seems that the desktop version of Ubuntu is installed instead.
How to install/upgrade ubuntu 10.04.1 from mini remix cd...unable to run text based install...how to do this? and what are all the commands required to finish the installation?
Have downloaded the image twice now and burned it to CD twice. This is a brand new HP 6530b. It will boot to the CD and come up with the ubuntu install menu. I can arrow up and down, but when I press enter on any entry nothing happens. The CD will spin momentarily but then stop. Been trying to make this work for two weeks.
I am trying to install ubuntu netbook remix on my asus netbook.I created a USB drive from windows. On Save and Exit from BIOS setup, system boots from hard drive with Windows 7 OS.
I'm an old user of Ubuntu/Linux but have stumbled across my first major problem in years. I just can't get my head around it.I own a Asus Eee Pc 1005HA it has roughly 160gb and is currently running WinXP. I'm trying to install the latest Netbook remix 10.04 onto the machine as a dual boot option.I've loaded the iso onto a usb drive and everything works perfectly. The problem is during installation. I can't work out how to set up the partitions for a dual boot option. Below is the current configuration on the system.
/DEV/SDA /DEV/SDA1/NTFS 77375MB Windows XP Partition /DEV/SDA2/NTFS 77366MB Free space
[code]....
I would like to use the free space as my Ubuntu installation. Can anyone advise me on the best way to install this without affecting my WinXP system.
I have an Acer netbook that I installed Remix on. Now I can't get the thing to boot from the CD drive which is connected via the USB port. Any suggestions? I set the boot order with the CD drive first and the HD last.
I have tried using UNetbootin to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Toshiba NB205 and am having no luck. Both it and Kubuntu NR will boot from live USB and seemingly install successfully, but when I select the Ubuntu option, it hangs and drops me down to BusyBox with initramfs.
When UNR was distributed as a .img file, I could use Canonical's USB image .exe to prepare the USB drive and it always worked like a charm, but now UNetbootin fails me all too often. I don't really have access to another Ubuntu box to run usb-creator with, so has anyone had any success with any other install method? I am dual booting with Windows 7.
i tried to install ubuntu netbook remix edition 10.04 on my laptop HP Compaq 550 through a usb flash stick ... with the usb creator which included into the iso image i got this msg (( attached screen-shot )) .i tried another application which makes a usb bootable disk called "UNetbootin" it boots successfully but after booting every thing got FREEZED ... i tried the same thing with ubuntu 9.10 it's succeed .. but i neeed to install 10.04 .
I am not sure if i missed a post somewhere, but my search didn't turn up anything. Does anyone know if it is possible to install the Ubuntu Remix on a laptop that doesn't have an Atom processor? I have a small form-factor laptop, but it isn't a Netbook, that I would love to install Ubuntu Remix on, but for some reason it hangs when I try and install it. Does anyone know if it is possible to install this release on a standard laptop? Are there links somewhere that I could follow?
I have a Toshiba Laptop, that I only use now for I-Tunes, and I-Pod.I would like to install Ubuntu on it to play around with, and experiment.Do I have to install Notebook Remix, or can I just install the regular Ubuntu 9.10 on it?
I have gateway m305crv that I recently installed ubuntu remix 9.04 on. After installation, no internet wired or wireless. I have tried to troubleshoot however I feel that I need to get my wired connection.
I want my desktop to have this tabbed look, mainly because it looks more like KDE, it's only feature that I like, so what is it called ? How do I install it on ubuntu desktop [lucid]
Is it possible to create an Ubuntu remix that uses the alternative installer instead of being a Live medium (or in addition to being a live medium). If it is possible, how would one going about doing this? I've been using remastersys but that only allows for Live CDs.
I tried installing the Netbook Remix, but it ran horribly (I don't know why either, system monitor was saying both my cores were 90+%, but no processes were using over 10%. I have an E2160 dual core pentium @ 1.8Ghz each, and an 8600GT and everything else works fine with a normal installation. Anyway, does anyone know what packages that can create the sleek menus from the netbook remix on a desktop?
I run a dual boot machine with XP pro and Ubuntu 10.10.I want to change the 10.10 to the netbook remix version. How do I install remix instead of 10.10 without damaging XP?
just a quick question, if i install the ubuntu netbook remix, is it possible to sync my ipod with it?, and how would i do this? i have played around with linux before, but never quiet figured out how to do it. i have the newest classic, 160gb
Using eeePC1000 with Xandros installed and investigating installation of Ubuntu, especially seeing that there was a netbook version. Have had some problems creating a bootable USB, but followed a thread on the netbook forum that I think will be useful. Before going ahead I wanted some advice on a few things:
- does the Ubuntu OS install over Xandros or is there work to be done post install to clear Xandros out? - if i want to keep using Thunderbird, StarOffice etc. as supplied with Xandros can I install these to Ubuntu?
Sorry if above all seems obvious: sites I've been to, or books are great at telling you about how good the OS is and how to install but nothing on what happens to the old OS.
is this ok to install and would any graphics run ok or could i switch them off so it would run smooth. is there a way to upgrade to 9.10 and netbook remix can i order a free ubuntu netbook remix cd? i am using a laptop not a netbook i want netbook remix as it looks and is very clean and simple and would be a really nice change from the boring gnome theme no offence. finally can you turn it off just if you need to use a normal gnome desktop.
is it possible to upgrade Ubuntu Netbook Remix from 9.10 to UNR 10.04 using ubuntu_netbook_remix_10.04 cd or iso? if yes than how?
as far as I know it is possible to upgrade from cd using Alternate cd's, but what I want is to stay with netbook remix so dont want to upgrade to desktop or anything else.
I'm trying to install from a USB drive. I followed the instructions given on an Ubuntu website, only to get the following output when booting from the drive:
SYSLINUX 3.86 2010-04-01 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2010 H. Peter Anvin et al No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!
I want to upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 from Ubuntu netbook remix 10.10, When I go to the update manager and check for updates it says that no updates were found, It also doesnt say that there is a new version available, I've checked my settings and its set to normal upgrades.
