So if I have a program open and running.. doesnt matter what it is.. and I minimise it,the program still runs but I can't get back to it unless I go to the application menu and open it again. I use to be able to just reopen the window from the task bar but its not there any more and I have no idea why.
View 1 RepliesAnytime I open a window and then minimize it-poof it's gone! for instance when I minimize firefox or just about any other app it just disappears instead of landing into the panel as it usually does when minimized. Is this a KDE problem? I just tried to upgrade to 11.2/KDE on the net (that was a mistake.) I finally installed from Downloaded DVD (install version) and crawled back from upgrade hell.

Untill now was ok but after upgrade to fedora 14 or 15 that i have tried when i try to copy from or to files the raid collapse and rebuilds data(i dont loose data) .....
I want to take the data from it so i can format it with ext3 or ntfs and use with my server on the network,or if there is any solution with the ext4 format
can open the programs pe-install, but can't open other programs or install new programs

But now the windows do not close properly, but remain as an inactive background display.As a side note, there's no startup screen, but just some screen garbage, as if an incorrect video driver would have been used.When I do move windows, their shade remains in the background, filling the background with garbage.

The most often given advice is:" expect your taskbar is missing the "Window List" applet.To add it: Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, choose "Add to panel", scroll down and add "Window List". "When I click on an empty area of the taskbar I see no option to 'Add to panel' The options are:
Add widgets (meaning unknown to me)Add Panel (which is NOT 'Add to panel'). This option does not appear to have any visible or useful result.
I cannot view several items to include... Update Manager, Software Center, Synaptic Package Manager. When any of these are selected, they flash on the screen and disappear. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu, updated to 10.04. After working OK, today Windows started disappearing whenever I click to minimize them. They're still running, but I have to go to System Monitor, locate the program in the list and click "Show Window." That's a nuisance.
I think this began after I tried to move panel icons to the right with an adjustable spacer. I've hunted all over the place for some setting to get windows to operate properly. The "Window Behavior" item in System Settings doesn't have anything. I removed the spacer and that didn't do anything, either.
I downlload a zip file which has a .htaccess file.
When I unzip it, the .htaccess disappears.
How can I prevent this happens?

For quite a few Ubuntu versions now, if I ever wanted to save a ..... clip, I just went to the file system's /tmp folder and did a cut'n'paste of the buffered file. Now I have upgraded to 10.04 it seems .flv's are no longer buffered in /tmp.
Where have they gone? Or is this function/ability 'no longer available' for some obscure and possibly political reason? I do get the feeling that, whatever the reason, this is a retrograde step not in keeping with the Ubuntu philosophy.
I have one problem when i run application they dissepear Example : when i try to upload something when i press browse they minimize and dissepear ... also with other application when i press run or something like that they dissepear.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently did a fresh install of Lucid on an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC laptop. At least once a day the main menu and context menus(desktop) in gnome stop working (They will not drop down/ appear). This includes all menus in gtk apps but not menus in not gtk apps such as firefox. I have an autohide panel at the top of the screen for my main menu, shortly after the menus stop working (but never at the same time), the panel wont unhide and the workspace swtcher applet stops working, this corresponds to when the buttons on the panel I can still see (at the bottom) stop working. When the workspace switcher applet goes, so to does the ability to switch using hotkeys (ctr alt left/right).
Suspending then resuming the laptop usually fixes these problem. Sometimes however 2 suspends are needed to fully fix the menus. It is possible for the context menu on the desktop to be working after a suspend, but not the main menu (but not always). A second suspend/ resume fixes this. I also noticed that this happened one of the times I booted a lucid release candidate live CD on my machine. I'm not sure but this may have something to do with the fact that I installed using a release candidate live CD instead of the proper release. (I have done all the updates).
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32Bit on my Dell Inspiron B130 Laptop, and it works great, way faster then windows XP which was pre-installed on the machine. Everything worked out of the box except for the Wireless but after some reading I was able to get it to work by plugging it in to the wired connection. but anyway the problem I'm having is that it seems like after a few days of use ubuntu starts to act up, things become out of place and not work. this even happens with Linux Mint also. By acting up I mean, Icons start to disappear in the panel, my wireless connection starts to stop working and the only way to keep it on is to either log off and try to log in using KDE instead of GNOME. or open terminal and do the command nm-appt or something someone on the chat told me to do to try and get my wireless icon working.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 10.4 netbook remix on my Asus N10 with an Nvidia card. I normally don't use the card and to get rid of troubles don't install the driver. After update something went wrong with the driver and I can't fix it. When the PC finished his boot het ask to give the password for the default key ring as usual but the window disapears before i can change anything. So this one is no too bad as my password is very easy and I can do the job with switching windows and keying very fast the pwd.
But try to read your evolution mail in these circumstances. I tried to start in low graphics mode but didn't help. Finaly I installed a fresh version on a separate partition and asked to copy my Evolution and Firefox documents. He didn't, dn't know why and tryed twice. So far my fresh installation works well but I lost my mails and shortcuts. So.... I think the easiest would be to work from the new installation as on the old one even the terminal window disapears.

This happens very randomly. As you can see by the times, both of those were taken on the same day. I logged out and logged back in, and it look fine.
when i open partition from the menu like Mp3 or software partition it appear on desktop to make it easier to access it againi like that however when i restart my pc it disappear again

I have my cube working great with all the associated effects yet after about 20 minutes or so, the cube options are all unchecked and I no longer have the cube. What could be causing this? Initially I thought it was only after reboot but I left the house today for 20 minutes and when I came back I had no box and sure enough the cube options were unchecked.
