Debian Multimedia :: Sound Is Disappear When Swich Differents Video Files
Jun 3, 2011I have a: debian squeeze(with last updates),sound system(Bose companion 5 USB) and Alsa Version 1.0.21. Sound system is work(good work) in:Ubuntu 9.10,Suse 11 and Windows But in Debian i have a starange problem:periodic sound is disappear(simply so or when i'm switch differents video files). It's not a problem with video players. /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart(stop|start) not help. Remain only restart all system, but it's not always help.Sometime it's help only 3 or 5 restart time. Mother board audio card is disabled(in BIOS). Detailed about strangeness:
1 Variant: sound is disappear when i'm swich differents video files(simply video or online video).
2 Varian:When Debian is starting:sound eat in logins form(sound a drop),but at once sound is disappear.

Jan 11, 2011For quite a few Ubuntu versions now, if I ever wanted to save a ..... clip, I just went to the file system's /tmp folder and did a cut'n'paste of the buffered file. Now I have upgraded to 10.04 it seems .flv's are no longer buffered in /tmp.
Where have they gone? Or is this function/ability 'no longer available' for some obscure and possibly political reason? I do get the feeling that, whatever the reason, this is a retrograde step not in keeping with the Ubuntu philosophy.

Apr 6, 2011I've noticed strange behavior of gnome-panel. After every log in it disappear - it's not killed, it's working but seems like completely transparent so i have to touch it twice to get it back. It's 2.30.2 ver of panel.

Apr 1, 2010I have two monitors set up on my Asus N61J laptop, but have a weird problem:When I move the mouse to right-hand edge of the Left (Primary) screen, it disappears. To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape.It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's a little annoying, as it makes it hard to select the Logout/Shutdown/Status menu

Sep 2, 2015I installed a fresh new Jessie (8.1) with the Cinnamon environment a few days a go, and yesterday I started seeing a strange issue seemingly happening at random.
I'm not sure what I do to cause this, but every few hours all the text and some of the icons (launcher, notifications and some applications) on the panel disappear. Most icons in the menu also vanish.
I've just noticed that some windows also disappear, but instead of showing the window behind them, I see my background image (see attached image).
I can't interact with windows which I can't see, but I can move and resize them (they have no border to grab, but alt+middle mouse works).
I can get around the issue by restarting Cinnamon (Alt+F2, r), but that works only part of the time.
Dmesg shows nothing (most recent message was plugging in my mouse & keyboard).
I'm running this on a Lenovo X201 (which uses Intel HD graphics QM57) and an external monitor (dual monitor configuration)...
Debian Multimedia :: GNOME CD Icon Doesn't Disappear After Ejecting It
Mar 6, 2010This problem showed after fresh installation of Debian Testing (image is dated at 1 march 2010). When I want remove cd I click button on device but the icon is still at the desktop and in the nautilus too (in the left sidebar). I have to remove it manualy from nautilus or desktop ( option: eject ). This problem shows with packages like gnome-mount or gnome-volume-manager ot without them.

Jun 18, 2011I just installed 10.04 Ubuntu and allow the Manager Updates.
Movie Player and PitVi apps seems to disappear when I load a clip and enlarge the window.
Movie Player will allow a smaller window and the clip to be played but once I stretch the window, it disappear Nope, its not as though I "floored" that window. It's gone.completely.
PiitVi, when loading a clip, once its full loaded, it disappears.
I did try installing and re-installing but same results.

Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.

Jun 7, 2011After installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.
I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.
I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.
Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?
Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server

May 1, 2010I've got a custom compiled kernel, just built on Lucid 10.04 from the kernel sources.System works fine, except for sound.When I log in as normal user and try to play a wav file using.The sound file is being played, but I hear no sound.However, when I do "sudo -s" and become root, execute the same mplayer command then I can hear the sound.My Sound preferences shows no input device and only "Dummy Output" as output device.On the generic kernel as came with the Lucid 10.04 CD, sound preferences shows different devices.The strange thing is: when I compiled my custom kernel, I changed nothing to the sound options in the kernel config file.

Nov 29, 2010For a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Stops Working After 1-5 Mins Of Playing Sound?
Dec 14, 2010Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

May 8, 2011I have a fresh install of Natty and i'm having some issues getting sound to work. My laptop has a built in sound card which works just fine. However, i also have a usb 5.1 sound card which isn't working at all. Both devices show up in 'Sound Preferences' but when i select the 5.1 device as the output device sound doesnt work. I ran the alsa-info.sh script and the output can be found here.

Aug 9, 2011I am setting up a mythtv/xmbc box on Ubuntu 10.10 (natty does not install on my hardware). I have a Sabrent TV PCIRC tuner card, which seems to work fine with the proper card and tuner settings. My on-board sound is HDA-Intel surround sound, which I have configured as analog duplex.
Currently the sound works fine through my speakers plugged into any jack on the back of the PC (two speakers, one jack). I can watch ripped movies and listen to music. The TV tuner is pumping sound from its external jack -- if I hook it up directly to the speakers it works fine. I can feed the Tuner's sound to the line-in on my motherboard, but nothing comes out. In the sound manager, i have the input device selected and the input level shows that the sound is coming in through the connector, and I can test the speakers and they work fine, but they don't seem to be communicating that the sound coming in needs to be pumped out through the speakers.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Jingly Sound Only In 5.1 Sound Configuration?
Mar 30, 2010I have a Logitech X-540 5.1 surround sound system for my ubuntu 9.10 64 bit box. When I go into sound from System -> Preferences -> Sound, I set the onboard sound card to 5.1 Analog Output. When I do this, all the of the audio I listen to from Banshee and VLC has a light jingle to it, kind of like constant sleigh bells (they're definitely not supposed to be there.) However, when I change it to anything other than 5.1, say stereo, 5.0, 4.1, or 7.1 (I keep it on 7.1) it works just fine. I'm using ALSA to output sound, could this be the cause of this? I haven't found anyone else with the same problem online, so I'm not really sure what's going on.

Obviously gdm3 loads something Slim doesn't, but can't workout what!Tried adding /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog & to my script - no dice, still no sound
