I cannot view several items to include... Update Manager, Software Center, Synaptic Package Manager. When any of these are selected, they flash on the screen and disappear. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10
View 2 RepliesHave had 9.10 running for a while with no problems. Not long ago upgraded 1GB RAM to 2GB so I could run VirtualBox better. All worked fine until a few days ago, I ran the normal system update. Since then, all application windows just disappear off screen after a random? period of time.
I.e. I tried to check Software center and the window closed after getting to 5% download. Just tried the System download manager which got about 8 files into an update before logging off desktop and taking me to log in screen. I just tried Firefox and the toolbar icon was displayed while it was attempting to load, but then that disappeared.
Ubuntu 10.04 Gnome: I have about 5 PCs at home, and all of them have this problem.
The default ubuntu install places top panel icons in the following order:

The power button completely scrolls off the edge, and half of the user-id scrolls off as well, to look like this:

I suspect this is a very common problem. How do I combat it?
Computer was working alright, no one was really using it anymore so I decided to reformat it and install Ubuntu. The whole install process went through but when I restarted the computer it was all glitchy and anything that came on screen would disappear after an instant and then come back. Makes reading anything extremely hard. Realized I only have 256 MB of RAM which is probably a big problem which I understand but I need a solution to fix this. Any older versions of ubuntu or other linux distributions that I should try?

I have two monitors set up on my Asus N61J laptop, but have a weird problem:When I move the mouse to right-hand edge of the Left (Primary) screen, it disappears. To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape.It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's a little annoying, as it makes it hard to select the Logout/Shutdown/Status menu

Is there a known problem with the Lubuntu 10.10 image here? I have downloaded it to two different computers, then burned the images to two different blank CD's (different brands) and neither loads. Both only get as far as the Lubuntu menu, once ENTER is pressed at that point to load the LiveCD, a blank screen eventually appears with a flashing cursor at the upper left of the screen, that's it. They were both burned using the slowest burn speeds available.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two 1680x1050 monitors running from the same graphics card, using xinerama. The left hand one is rotated portrait, while the right hand one remains landscape.
Some flash videos will full screen fine (4od,iplayer,.....) but some will not; in the attached screenshot you can see that there is a small section of the screen displaying the video while the video controls are correctly at the bottom of the screen. The grey block on the right flashes rapidly light and dark.
Another issue I have is that flash will not stay full screen if I move focus to something on the other screen, is there a workaround for this?
i've installed 11.04 on an intel classmate nl1 netbook (atom n270, gma950 graphics, 1gb ram) but have a problem with flash when i visit a specific website. i don't have any other general problems with flash. e.g. videos works perfectly. the problem is a white box flashing on the flashplayer screen. i installed adobe flash 10.3.181.5 and have tried flashaid. if i select low quality in flashplayer then the problem is much less, but it doesn't go completely. i never had this problem before with windows xp when visiting this site on the same netbook.
i asked the website customer services and this was their reply! "no we have not tested the program on ubuntu personally i have never heard of it before. our it suggested downloading google chrome and using that as your internet browser as that is the recommended browser." changing the browser makes no difference. i tested firefox, seamonkey and chrome. could there be some driver issue with the graphics card?
This bug is strange because it doesn't happen for me in Ubuntu (Gnome). Whenever I try to watch a Flash video in full screen, the picture always freezes after a few seconds of play, and the only way for me to unfreeze it is to get out of full screen using the escape key. I can put it back into full screen, but it always just freezes up again after a few seconds.
I figured out a strange work around for it though, but it's certainly not ideal. I figured out that if I get the time pop-up (see attachment to see what I mean) to stay up, it doesn't freeze. This happens in both Firefox and Chrome. I was going to try this in Rekonq, but I can't seem to get Flash working in Rekonq.
ok, this is ruining my fantasy teams. when i open gamechannel in yahoo sports, it opens in an adobe flash window. this is a realtime scoreboard. the window does not fit my eeepc screen and there is no scroll thingy on the side so i cant see the bottom third of the screen. i dont know if this is a mozilla problem, adobe problem or linux problem but its driving me nuts! this is karmic on an asus eeepc. what should i do to fix this?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi have just upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04. i have an acer netbook (d250 one). i had boot loading screen problems with 10.04 too. i hoped that this issue will be fixed with the upgrade but not. after the grub menu, a black screen appers until the password prompt screen. there is no purple loading screen, just a black screen. is it a plymouth prob? also i realised that when i playing videos in videos the sound crashes a bit. i'm using google chromium. but my main problem is the booting one not the flashplugin. the new 'ubuntu' font is awesome. i <3 it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried the new flash 10.2 beta in the hopes that they actually improved things, but it doesn't seem like they have.
1) Video's still seem to go to the 0,0 position with multiple monitors. Always the left screen.
2) Clicking on the non-fullscreen monitor still causes the fullscreen to exit.
3) My video is still offset and shifted on players like ....., probably due to screen resolution.
Running ubuntu 9.10 on an hp pavilion 2000 laptop, with 2.5GB of ram and a dual core (i think). Works at perfect speed with everything, except when I'm tyring to watch a flash video which slows everything down and gets choppy, especially when in full screen. From looking around online I see some people blaming adobe and some people blaming NVidia drivers. Get the impression the problem is a bit of both.
Funny thing is it worked a lot better with the drivers that installed automatically with the ubuntu install, soon as I put the updated nvidia drivers on it started screwing up. how I go back to those default drivers? Tried unchecking the drivers listed in Hardware Drivers, but when I restarted was stuck in very low resolution, so I'm guessing that's not the same as the drivers used after installing the OS.
last night I updated Ubuntu 10.11 and then upgraded to 11.04. However, the upgrade did not work. I tried to reboot and cannot. I cannot get a flash screen or any Ubuntu window. That is the only OS on that desktop system. So, I attempted to install Fedora 14 -i386 DVD but also unsuccessful. How do I erase Ubuntu and start an fresh install of Fedora 14?

I'm using 64bit version of adobe flash player called "Square", which work's fine for ....., but when i try to switch to full screen on site warcraftmovies(they're using player Minoto i believe) it's working strange. If I open a new Firefox and I haven't played any other video from ..... for instance, it works fine and switches to full screen no problem, but If i exit full screen and try to switch to full screen again, it will give me only black screen. If i click on the window border of firefox the video comes up again, but not maximized, only normal window. I tried running firefox from terminal to see erorrs and whenever i try to maximize the player it gives me this error

I am running 9.10 on a laptop with an external monitor. when i run a flash video in full screen on the external monitor and click anything on the workspace of the laptop screen, the flash video on the external monitor will revert back from full screen.
this did not happen a couple of weeks back. i have not used it for 3 weeks. maybe one of the updates in between changed some setting?
does anyone now how to fix the problem?

When I try to show video on flash full screen, then the picture gets small and freeze, the computer still works fine, but the video freeze. The same gos for Facebook games on full screen doesn't work,, computer doesn't freeze, I can click anywhere and get back to normal.

I have the normal OS choices menu (Windows XP or Unbuntu) but when I choose ubuntu I get an instant flash of an error message on a black screen so quick I cannot read the whole thing but I caught "error" and "format" and then the computer reboots. I have no problem getting into Windows.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi've got a mythbuntu 10.10 box connected to my tv; sometimes i want to use it to watch internet tv. owever, when i try to resize videos to full-screen, sometimes black bars intermittently flash across the entire screen. this does not happen when the video is in a window or on the web page, only when going into full-screen mode. unfortunately, on some of these sites, even the "large" in-page video selection is still too small to be comfortably watched from the couch.
i'd suspect it's something with flash, but a similar thing happens when i'm using skype inside a windows xp on vmware. black bars flashing across when in "full-screen" but just fine when zoomed up inside a window. and i don't think vmware video output is flash-based. so it may be something else entirely.
also, this doesn't happen on all internet video - i've only had it happen on video from nbc.com and nfl.com (i haven't really had the opportunity or reason to try many other sites yet), and it was only a little noticeable from the nfl.com but nearly unwatchable from nbc. yet if i go to videos, i have no trouble getting any of their videos running full-screen.
i have an integrated geforce 8200 graphics, and i'm running the nvidia proprietary drivers version 256. i'm not running 260 since its vdpau capability is questionable, and i need that for mythtv. i have a 64-bit system.
does anyone have any ideas regarding this? the fact that i'm getting consistently good results from videos yet consistently bad ones from the tv networks makes me wonder if it's something i'm even going to be able to fix.
I installed fedora 12 on my system but had issues with the ATI card I had at the time which I could not solve. So, I bought a Geforce 6200 hoping that would help, but I am still getting issues. Firstly, I cannot play full screen Flash. I know this has been asked before but all of the solutions I have tried have failed. Also, I would like to know if it is possible to play AVI files, as I d/l a few.
If I cannot get these two issues sorted it will be back to the dreaded Mic...... As I said, I am a complete novice here, I tried to enable desktop effects, and a message came up saying I only had 2D support, so I am guessing a driver problem? I have not installed any new drivers, but did try to get from nvidia, that I could not get to install - it was a .run file.
I have just followed the four point installation guide that I found on here, and now when the PC boots I have a slow moving blue bar across the the bottom of the screen with 'Fedora 12' next to it, and the graphics are now totally shot, looking like something from windows 3.1!
ever since i started using opensuse at the end of december, this has been bugging me. when i try to watch a full-screen videos video in either chromium or firefox, it lags to the point where maybe i'm getting 0.5 frames per second. ironically, when i launch chrome in virtualized windows 7 (virtualbox) to watch a full-screen flash video it looks smooth as butter. yes, even with the virtualization overhead and everything.
i'm using adobe flash 10,3,181,22 from the opensuse repositories, chromium 15 and firefox 5. i'm on a 64-bit system.
