Is there some program out for linux that is similar to ndiswrapper, in the sense that it can use Windows drivers for printers? As of right now, printing has been one of those issues I've had in linux for years, but I was lucky enough to have a supported printer. On other machines, including family members, they are not so lucky enough to have a supported printer.

I'm dualbooting XP and Ubuntu. I've probably switched back and forth over 50 times today to download certain files to hopefully get this thing working. Problem: I use a Linksys Wireless-G Adapter to connect to my wireless router. The cord is too short to reach my PC. Different rooms. Ubuntu will not connect without the correct drivers. I have installed ndiswrapper and the ndisgtk.

1) Wine v. 1.1.36
2) ndiswrapper
3) ndisgtk
I have access to the specific driver on the installation CD for the adapter.Questions: 1)How do I use the NDISwrapper or ndisgtk to use the drivers from the CD? 2)Where do I move the drivers if I have to in order for ubuntu to use them?
Ubuntu 10.04 and have a problem with loading the Linux printer drivers for my new Lexmark printer. When I try to load up the printer driver downloaded from the Lexmark site I am asked to enter a root administrator password, but when I enter the password I used to setup the OS it will not accept it. I have reviewed the "sudo" terminal password info, but as I am a newbie I was concerned about wrecking the installation.

It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?
I just recently put Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on my laptop with windows dual booting. I'm pretty new to all this stuff, so I'm a bit confused. I followed instructions I read on here, but none of it seems to be working. I put all of the 3 Ndiswrapper things on, and then copied the .inf and .sys files from windows into the same directory. I just want to connect to my home network, which has WEP security.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently received a used laptop that I was going to use for my kids, a Compaq Presario 2100. Everything went fine on the install, however I could not get the WiFi to work. The internal card, a Broadcom BCM4306, was attempting to use the b43legacy drivers, which I understand to be the native driver for this card, but would get all sorts of strange errors in 'dmesg', and would never get a solid connection.
After fiddling with this for 2 days, and reading countless troubleshooting guides, I finally gave up and decided to get it working with ndiswrapper. Everything worked perfect, except I can only get it to work if I first load b43legacy, then load ndiswrapper, then unload b43legacy. If I blacklist b43legacy, and just load ndiswrapper, iwconfig does not report a wlan0.
I ran across this posting, and decided to try this, but it also did not work. Plus, with this file in place, any attempt to use modprobe would complain about every line of that file.
I have recently obtained a dell 725 printer but it the drivers do not seem to be available when I try to configure it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm after something simple to use similar to the XP fax client/fax printer. Hylafax seems an overkill. HPlip app seems to expect an HP printer/scanner or fax machine. Is it true that hplip is an HP exclusive? I'm using opensuse 11.2 with kde 4.3.1, but I would consider gfax. Gfax is not on my DVD. The docs for that on the hylafax site stop at 2008. Is an up to date Gfax a possibility? I see most of the hylafax posts in the archive get redirected to the hylafax website. I've been thru most of that stuff, but much it's out of date. Hylafax seems to be the basis for other apps.
I'm signed up for the Hylafax-user list, but I didn't see any hylafax archives to browse thru. If you are still with me here, I have an opensuse 11.2 with a dial-up internet. From the DVD I installed from I installed hylafax-4.4.4-19.3.i586 and client. That install load a bunch of fax tools at places the hylafax docs don't expect. Besides that their docs only go up to opensuse 10.2, tho there is some stuff or enterprise suse.
i've patched the source files to be installed on f14 and finally got a succesfull install, ndiswrapper -l comes back with driver installed and presentwhen i run modprobe ndiswrapper i get "FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found" after many hours of google searching and reading various threads i cannont seem to find a solution to this apart from manualy coping the ndiswrapper.ko file but when i use that solution modprobe starts ndiswrapper but there is no wlan0 present in iwconfig.now for some reason even wheni move the ndiswrapper.ko file manually it still is giving me that error. this worked earlier as i mentioned but then i reinstalled ndiswrapper hoping something went wrong but still got the same error so i tried that same fix and i'm still getting that error. i can't figure out what i migt've done differently earlier but i'm not having any luck.

I'm reasonably new to Linux and very new to Ubuntu . I've just installed 9.10 as a dual boot on a Windows XP Pro Dell Inspiron 9200. I have a Samsung CLP-315 that I need to configure first as a local printer then as a wireless network printer. I found the software (.bin file) on the Samsung site and downloaded it but that's as far as I got. Can I use any of the GUI package managers or do I need to use Terminal and command line syntax? Here's the real question "what is the syntax for installing software/drivers?"

I used the synaptic package manager to install the printer drivers ubuntu already had in their repository for my printer model. When I connect my printer to the computer Ubuntu recognizes the model, but cannot detect the printer drivers I have already installed. The printer drivers were installed to /usr where a Brother folder was created. the Cupswrapper and lpd files are in the Brother folder. How can I get the system to detect its own files so I can get the printer to work?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Kubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One ZG5 netbook. Everything works pretty well and I'm enjoying it so far. One problem - I have a Lexmark S405 inkjet printer - for which I installed drivers the other day. The install goes fine and the printer does work - but upon next boot, there is an error loading Kate - and then some sort of script editor pops up. Uninstalling the driver package seems to fix the error message but it's back upon re-install. Didn't have this with my Ubuntu VM on my desktop. The printer does still work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI heard that the new release would work smoothly and decided to install fc15 on 5 computers at once (four 64-bit AMDs running RAID and an old 32-bit Compaq laptop). I now have only 1 of 4 printers working. One was an old and slow but reliable HP6P and the others Samsungs of various ages. I tried the workaround suggested in another thread for the HP6P (using MAKEDEV to recognize the parallel port), but I'm still unable to install the printer--the installation hangs searching for a printer. And Fedora 15 has apparently broken the proprietary Samsung driver.
The only working printer at the moment is a Samsung 2250 (the oldest) which has an open source driver, and that one won't currently print from the internet (it used to under fc14). It's pretty sad when a new release breaks computers whose major function is effectively (or rather ineffectively) a typewriter. I've tried both local and network installations using Gnome, system-config-printer, and the Samsung Configurator, but nothing seems to work. I hope a fix is forthcoming from Red Hat, Samsung, or the readers soon. I need my typewriter.
