Only to be informed that the CD autorun is not supported in files, I have the printer installed on the windows OS, without any problems, I have explored the CD and even tried setup but with no joy.Has any member encountered similar probs with installing software.

I find references to the printer all over the place, but when I try to print something nothing happens. I tried the print routine in 'gimp', 'gedit', 'thunderbird, and 'firefox'. The printer as a stand alone will copy and scan. About a year and a half ago it was connected to a Windows machine and worked.
Ubuntu 10.04 and have a problem with loading the Linux printer drivers for my new Lexmark printer. When I try to load up the printer driver downloaded from the Lexmark site I am asked to enter a root administrator password, but when I enter the password I used to setup the OS it will not accept it. I have reviewed the "sudo" terminal password info, but as I am a newbie I was concerned about wrecking the installation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?
ubuntu and fairly inexperienced in getting things to work. I recently bought a Kodak s100 webcam. I can get a few frames on cheese, skype, or guvcview. After that, the video feed goes to black screen. I have tried a few things I found in the forum, but have not been able to find a fix yet. Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working? Also, the webcam has a built-in microphone which I'm having trouble getting programs to recognize, such as skype.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Nvidia xorg drivers (not knowing it didn't support my card) and messed up my video setup. When I rebooted it wanted me to restore to default, so I did. Now that I have, I can do stuff, but I am trying to run some games in W.I.N.E. and it just won't run. I can't activate desktop-effects either. And to be honest, I can't find any information on the NVIDIA GeForce 8200M, I can only find info and support for 8200 and the 8200M G. otherwise I'll just have to reinstall.... And I just installed 10.04 yesterday.

The LAN controller is a Broadcom BCM4306 [14e4;4320] (rev 02). I honestly thought that once I installed ubuntu I would have no problem connecting to my wireless router. I was wrong.
A FAQ on this forum states that I need to install drivers/firmware because presumably there is no out of the box support. I read the FAQ [URL]..Debian and it seems that I need to get the driver/firmware then issue some command to put it where it needs to go.
I'm reasonably new to Linux and very new to Ubuntu . I've just installed 9.10 as a dual boot on a Windows XP Pro Dell Inspiron 9200. I have a Samsung CLP-315 that I need to configure first as a local printer then as a wireless network printer. I found the software (.bin file) on the Samsung site and downloaded it but that's as far as I got. Can I use any of the GUI package managers or do I need to use Terminal and command line syntax? Here's the real question "what is the syntax for installing software/drivers?"

The graphics card in question is an ATI HD 5750, and mouse is an Apple bluetooth 'magic' mouse.So far I've managed to fix the mouse, but not the graphics.
At first I didn't have any display at all, but I was able to ssh into the machine and get part way through the proprietry graphics driver installation. Im thinking of getting a new machine-the only thing is a lot pc's these days ship with ati cards rather than nvidia cards. ATI will work on windows ok but i seem to recall linux support for ati being somewhat non existent...since i will have a windows/opensuse dual boot on the machine should i stick with nvidia for the graphics card then?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

I use Ubuntu Server 10.04 and would like to share my printer from it. I have a Canon Pixia MP270 and I can download the source drivers from URL...There is also a deb file driver download tested on ubuntu 9.04 but I fails to install.Im not worried about the scanner option on the printer I just want to be able to share the printer to my Windows 7 PC.
How do I install the source drivers?I presume once its installed I can share the printer through webmin and install it on my Windows 7 machine?

I was able install the printer drivers for a Brother network laser printer (HL-5370DW) and would like to install the drivers on a few other computers on my small home network. Is there a way to automate this process by pushing them out to the other computers, or should I just manually install them? It wasn't difficult, just wondering if there is a slick way to do this.
