Everytime I attempt to install anything, in any way, I'm given the following error message:

I went into Synaptics Package Manager and told it to uninstall WINE in case that was what was causing the problems. It sort of half-uninstalled-it then gave me that exact same error message.I have two threads currently open on the forums - adjusting laptop brightness and flashing BIOS - and both problems hit a brick wall because of this same error message.
I am using apache2 with subversion and trying to get post commit script to run an svn update command. All svn commands seem to work fine manually

I have been having the worst time trying to get sametime messenger from IBM to install properly. I had it working fine for the last 6 months and yesterday I accidently updated and it all went to {1134}. I seem to have found dkms to be the source of the problem.
I get an exit 0 regardless of whether or not its install or uninstall. I have managed to get pidgin to work for now, but it is no means ideal for my purposes.

Basically my problem can be neatly summed up as the problem described at both here and here. I can only presume it's a rather uncommon problem to do with a particular hardware setup since I can't find any widespread bug reports of it, but it is (on my system at least) highly replicable. I can reboot my system from Natty and it either one of two scenarios. It can reboot the system (as first asked) then reboot again in the middle of POST and splurge an error about interrupting POST at me (and keep giving me this error every reboot till I go into the bios and resave some settings).
Alternatively, it can get all the way into grub, where I can dual boot into Windows, windows will get some arbritary point in (usually the login screen give or take 10 seconds) and then reboot at random. It's not even a windows crash since I've disabled auto-reboot.I'm not sure what's causing it but I can only presume it's something at the kernel level, since I'm not sure anything else would have the kind of power needed to interfere with the system at an 'outside the OS' level. As such I wouldn't have any idea how to go about fixing it, but I can hope that someone here may be able to point me in the direction of potential settings I can change (probably BIOS I guess) that might aleviate the issue till a fix is found.

trying to install Fedora 10. I'm novice in linux. Nut tryed some distros before, installation/config, fedora 9, Ubuntu 7-8, Suse 10, mandriva. everything was ok. Now i've new rig:
1 DVD install i386 after booting asks me media from where i want install errors: CDinstallation: No Cd drive with installation media HDD installation: can't find boot image (NTFS C: in winXP). 2 DVD install x86_64 same. 3 NetBootCD 2.2. installed on flash with liveusb-creator. once booted (most progress with this one), started formating process, asked root, after again showed me that no media. after again tried to install on USB error "no boot media on POST screen". 4 Billix downloaded USB version, pated on USB stick edited file , changed mirror from i386 to x86_64 can't boot even. 5 Downloaded fedora 10 Live Gnome desktop slipstreamed onto usb stick with liveusb-creator. booted: showed GRUB boot many. choosing boot or verify and boot fedora three lines on boot loading, after it shows me my Ethernet connection like "100mb full duplex link ready" after nothing only this text stays on desktop.
I just upgraded to F15 and it went well. But at the next and each subsequent cold boot the BIOS reports "Your system last boot fail or post interrupted Please enter setup to load default and reboot". The board is an asus P5N-D. I press F1 to blow past the error and all is well until the next cold boot. Restarts are fine, no errors at all.

I'm running xen as installed from the CentOS Virtualization Suite and I'm having some problems. One of my VMs powers off immediately after an error during 'POST'. Is there a way to stop it from immediately powering off so I can see the error? And there's also at least one error message that appears for a split second after the vm craps out, before the gui console reports 'Guest not running'.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWe're having an issue with HTTP POST file uploads on our two Ubuntu PCs. For some reason, whenever one of our users attempts to submit a file in an HTML form, the request times out, usually with a 500 Internal Server Error message. This problem is not limited to one site, but occurs on all sites that use file uploads. Also, the problem does not appear to be with our network, as a Windows 7 PC on the same network can upload files to the same sites without any difficulties. The problem is not browser-specific; we have tested with Firefox, Epiphany, and Google Chrome and all produce the same results. The issue is relatively new, and was first observed within the last month; before this time, both machines had no problems uploading files.
Does anyone have ANY idea what could be causing this? I've tried a number of things, including rebooting the PCs, rebooting the network, disabling IPv6, etc. I'm not very experienced in Linux system administration, but I can use the terminal and am familiar with some terminal-based diagnostic tools, so if you need any additional info or want me to try something, please let me know! I've exhausted my own computer knowledge with regards to finding a solution to this problem.
I agree deleting .Xauthority files work, but thats not a good solution. I mean, everytime I have to run any X forwarding application I have to delete the .Xauthority file. Here is my scenarioThe applications that I want to run are on Linux Server [NFS] and the client machines [CIFS] that are having problem in locking theXauthority files are Macs which share the same domain as that of client solaris machine. i.e. The home directory of particular user on Solaris & the home directory of that user on Mac have same contents.When I ssh -X from Solaris to the server, everything works fine, no error messages.When I ssh -X from MACs to the server, I get the following warning messages.

I have had no problems with downloading/installing updates and programs, and everything worked fine. Until memtest came along. It ran by itself (I think my dad made it the first boot option in grub), and now if I try to install any packages or programs, it will either say "Grub installation failed" or that any packages I tried to install failed. If I removed memtest, would that make it possible for me to install stuff again? I cannot tell why the login timeout is expired when I try to do this, and my investigation toward this end has been fruitless. I saw a brief snippet on Google that vaguely suggested that the underscores in the domain name were at fault, but replacing these with their encoded counterparts did nothing to resolve the issue (that, and underscores should be fine when sent unencoded according to the standards). I have extensively perused the man pages and have come up with nothing to adequately explain this behavior. I also talked to a friend who has worked with curl in his line of work, but he mostly has experience in the context of PHP and has not dealt with this issue before. I am running GNU/Linux 2.6.35-22-generic-pae.
From the Synaptic Package Manager, I searched for HL-1440. There were two files appeared: (1) brother-lpr-drivers-laser1, and (2) brother-cups-wrapper-laser1. When I marked (1) for installation, (2) was automatically selected. After I applied the files for installation, I received this error: "E: hl1440lpr: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 126." What should I do? I am still learning Linux/Ubuntu and really don't have much experience with this.

This would be my first Linux installation, all I have done otherwise was virtualize Ubuntu 9.10.I have tried installing two times now but I can't get the boot screen to pop up for when I dual boot and check my OS.So here is what I did, not ever partitioning a drive before for duel booting:1. Go into Disk Manager and shrink the volume of the main HD by 25GB (I was going to use this for Ubuntu)2. I then inserted the Live CD with Ubuntu 10.10 on it and proceeded to install, however when choosing where to install it, I chose the advanced options and chose the partition that I set aside as free space for Linux (25GB -- 25600MB).
3. I set the boot loader to this partition, as the other partitions are the w7(windows 7) loader and the label of the HD. The partition was labled dev/shd5 or something like that. But when I am done installing and try to boot normally the screen where I am to choose which OS to boot does not appear.Question:What should I do to dual boot? I also tried selecting boot alongside another (or similar) and set the same settings as using the dev/shd5 free space that I allocated (25GB) and placing the boot loader on the same partition, which is not the main partition.I do not want to overwrite the Windows Partition as I have things on there that I will need,
This morning I updated my system as prompted by the update manager. Upon reboot, I got "grub:sh>". After doing some googling and a bit of trial and error, I managed to figure out that I can manually boot successfully by executing the following commands.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a Ubuntu Desktop newbie, and I wiped XP Media Center off my old HP Pavillion Dv8000 last night to install 10.04 LTS. With very little tweaking, I got everything to run right including wireless, but now I notice that I can't run any new (post-install) programs that I install through Ubuntu Software Center. In fact, I haven't tried installing any other way, but all software that was part of the default installation works fine, but these programs won't run:VLC Media PlayerSkypeStarsWhen I click on the programs to run them, the other apps slow or freeze for 30-45 seconds as if the computer is contemplating starting them, and then nothing. No errors, no shell or blank window - nothing. They just don't run.I only created one user account at O/S install and as far as I can tell is the SU, so I can't see it being a permissions issue.

After that I followed the grub recovery procedure.
