Like the title says, I have the Quadro NVS 135M in my Dell D630. It's working (well, besides the startup screen issue - Plymoth... not a fan!), but when I watch a movie the image ?flickers? annoyingly. This is something I have never experienced before, with allegedly ?inferior? video cards. It's odd though, isn't it - better video card, inferior output!?!
View 1 RepliesI just got done installing Ubuntu on a new harddrive and set it up to dual boot with grub loader. However, when I boot into Ubuntu, the screen goes black. I can however login (blind) by hitting enter and typing password. The login sound goes and it logs in, however, the screen stays black. I am running a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 295 Video Card.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have repeatedly installed CentOS 5.5 64-bit on a Dell T3500 with an nVidia Quadro FX 580, in an attempt to get dual monitor support to work to no avail. Everything works fine when just one monitor is plugged in and I do not try to enable or plug in a second monitor. I have installed the Dell DKMS, and the Dell recommended drivers (from Dell site) on one installation, I installed the nVidia drivers (from nVidia site) on another, and have tried with what CentOS loads by default on another. The results are the same every time: When I reboot as directed I get a black screen. I can recover by hard shutdown and unplugging one of the monitors, but that doesn't solve my problem. Has anyone had a similar experience, or have any helpful guidance? I am not very Linux savvy. This is for multiple machines in a corporate environment.

I have just bought a Dell Optiplex 960 with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450. Everything works out of the box with the 10.04.1 Live CD. It suggests to install and activate NVIDIA proprietary drivers, but you need to restart the machine afterwards. The problem is that, after that, all what you get is a blank screen, with not even a cursor. The same happens when you install Lucid: blank screen with no cursor. Ctrl+F1 does not show anything, but Ctrl+Alt+Prnt Scrn+REISUB works and the PC is reset. In the var directory the logs show that the NVIDIA module is not loaded.

I built the nvidia driver by downloading it and installing with ./Nvidia...Before when I ran nvidia-settings I saw two GPUs listed but now I only see one. I come here every two or three years, when I have some troubles with my graphic card. Indeed, once again. Since last Tuesday, I experience some system freeze. Since yesterday, I must run on low graphic mode. As there has not been any X.org or driver update, I suspect that my graphic card is running down. But I do not know how to diagnose this.

Trying to install 64bit onto Dell T3500 with NVidia Quadro NVS 295. Live Cd works and Install completes. When I boot I get BIOS and Disk info then boot switches to flashing cursor after disk read and then Monitor goes into sleep mode.

Im trying to add the binary NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.14-pkg1.run in my CentOS 5.4 ks.cfg file. The problem is that when you manually run the program it asks you questions and you have to respond with ok if you agree to their licensing terms. I want to be able to include this binary in my kickstart so when my machine boots up for the first time this driver is already installed and I don't have to waste time troubleshooting video issues. Is there anyway I can do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am posting this to hear if there are others with display issues on Dell E6500 laptop with the Nvidia Quadro NVS 160 driver. This problem is starting to annoy me a great deal, but I am uncertain how I should move forward. In short; I have Ubuntu 10.04 x64 installed on my Dell E6500 laptop. When using only the laptop, everything works great. The second I plug it into the docking station (the laptop lid closed) and want to use my two external monitors (Dell 2001FP) I'm in trouble. I cant see anything and what I get is a 'DVI: Cannot Display this Mode' on the primary monitor - If i try a regular VGA cable I get nothing but a black screen.
I have played around with the Nvidia config but it cant find my monitors and therefore I cant do much. I am aware of the various "hack the xorg.conf" options, but I before I do that I wanted to see if others had experienced the same thing. I had hoped that we were pasted the hack stage and that primary functions such as display would work by now.
I am running Debian Squeeze ( kernel 2.6.32-trunk) 64-bit on this machine - "most" of the hardware can talk to Linux or vice-versa. I am, however, having trouble finding a suitable free / non-free driver to work with the abovementioned card. It would seem that this card is too "new" at the moment (February 2010).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Quadro FX 4800 and tried to install it on Fedora 10. During the installation, Fedora didn't recognize my new graphics card and began installing the OS in text mode. I stopped the installation and tried to start over, this time I passed the following command: linux resolution=1024x768. I then proceeded with the installation, and again, I was posed with a text mode installation. I continued with the text mode install and when Fedora was done installing, I rebooted and system just locked up.
At this point I was frustrated, so I reinstalled my old 8800 graphics card and started a new install with something that worked in the past. When the install was done, I loaded the latest NVIDIA drivers and the rebooted. I reinstalled my new graphics card (Quadro FX 4800) then powered up my system. I thought everything was good to go and all of a sudden my system flickered and then locked up during the 'Anacron' testing phase. I then rebooted with the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" hotkeys, but my system always locks up during the 'Anacron' testing sequence. I am aware that the Quadro FX 4800 is a few months old, but how can I get it to work in linux? It has gotten so bad, that I had to resort to using MS Vista.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running into this issue after installing Fedora Core 11 off DVD. Anaconda install the first part of the installation, then after reboot it goes into run level 3 (I think, where you have to login as root) I noticed that it said xserver failed to load before it actually boots Anaconda.
Maybe I should pull a graphic's card? I have logged in as root after the base install and did a lspci, and you can see the two Nvidia Quadro FX1700's and you can tell it is an intel board with the Intel Corp 6311ESB/6321ESB PCI Express ports. Also you can navigate through the linux directories via ls \. I tried YUM to find/install the graphics drivers but it says something about metadata not being configured. I checked the IP address with ifconfig and had to manually assign an ip.
I experience very poor desktop performance on my system. General clicking responsiveness is poor, taking over second or two to focus to a new window, move windows around, ... etc. The Xorg process constantly uses over 60% of the CPU even when I'm doing nothing, and when I do click around it will quickly go up near 100% usage. Performance is initially OK when I first launch into my Gnome environment, but it soon deteriorates within 30 minutes or so. Eventually, after days of being up and running, my desktop will crash.I am running Ubuntu 10.10 with latest upgrades. I have four monitors attached to my "nVidia Corporation G98 [Quadro NVS 420]" graphics card. I am running the "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current)" recommended in the Ubuntu "Additional Drivers" app. I get a fair number (hundreds) of these in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

I have a HP dv6314tx laptop with Nvidia Geforce Go 7400 graphics card. Recently I installed 10.04. Without installing any nvidia drivers my boot screen resolution and desktop resolution were fine. But I cudn't activate Extra Visual effects and so I installed nvidia drivers. Now the problem is that Extra visual effects work just fine. But during the boot, the splash screen has a very poor resolution.

i am loving the ubuntu 10.10 interface.my laptop is a toshiba satellite l450 (3gb ram + 2.10ghz amd proc essor. i use a ati radeon hd 3200 graphics card.i have to manually adjust the sound settings if i plug in a headphone or a hdmi cable to suit the necessary output. windows did this automatically.my video quality is very very poor. if i run videos on any browser or watch a movie (avi file) on totem or vlc it is very jumpy and the sound is often out of sync.

Is there any way to make sure during installation that GRUB gets configured to stay in character mode only?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo for the last, oh, three or four hours now, I've been trying to get videos to play properly in Ubuntu. I have the default player, I have vlc, I (apparently) installed mplayer, but it won't play anything at all.
I was having horrible screen tearing with standard definition .avi's in vlc, fixed that by setting vsync in catalyst control center to always on or whatever it is.
Now, I have tried to run a 720p x264 video. It PLAYS, but not well. Audio is fine, however video is all jerky in VLC, and in Totem it's just a mess of screen tearing (although the video does no jerk on that player).
I have just spent HOURS trying to get VIDEOS TO PLAY. This makes no sense. Playing a video should be the simplest thing in the world for any OS to do, but with Ubuntu it is like pulling teeth. I have NEVER been so frustrated while using a computer. What is going on here?
BTW, I installed every single thing needed to use mplayer but it still does not work. The player comes up but will not play any type of file.

I was really enjoying Ubuntu until I got around to trying to watch some videos. Now I am maybe minutes away from going back to vista. At least on there I can watch full 1080p videos if I want with no problems.
I am having a strange problem with the Opensuse 11.2 Xorg server. Graphics hardware is Nvidia Quadro FX-5000, driver is ver 190.53. 90% of the time, I am getting a seg violation from the Xserver on trying to login via kdm:

So far, it doesn't seem to be user dependent (happens either as root or joe random user,) Again, so far, it only seems to happen with "driver nvidia" enabled in the config file, not with "driver nv" The failure occurs shortly after hitting return on the login screen. After it fails, it starts up a new Xserver, and presents a new login screen. Repeated attempts seem to *eventually* succeed, but 90% of the time, it fails I strongly suspect the Nvidia driver, but I have not been able to find anything documenting any similar problems.
I seem to be having trouble watching video on my new debian lenny system. I installed the nvidia drivers correctly and I get the splash screen and have decent 3D performance but you tube is a real eye ache to watch with fits and jumps all the time. Is there something I am missing with regards to configuring this device.

Sound is fine in flash video, but gets garbled in fullscreen.
Another problem I'm having is that when I turn the volume past 60% using the sound applet on the panel, it gets very distorted. If I open sound preferences, I notice it is in the "amplified" zone at this point, so I have to keep it in the "unamplified" zone, but then it's not loud enough.

I am trying to install the Nvidia Quadro NVS 110 169.04 drivers but am having issues during install. Prior to attempting my install I did install the kernel-devel rpm so it can compile. after running the RPM I get. Quote: No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you like the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel from the NVIDIA ftp site [URL]?
which of course does not work. next it says Quote: "No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; this means that the installer will need to compile a new kernel interface.. i hit okay and move on to. I have an old video card, Nvidia XFX 7800GT, which is now beginning to fail and I need to upgrade. I am not huge a gamer but I do play/buy games on regular basis. Right now I'm playing Eternal Lands on the Linux side. Looking to spend $100-$150 on a new card.I have a Core2Duo Wolfdale 3.0, with 2ghz ram and run Lucid 32bit. Also run windows Vista64Ultimate on dual boot (rarely).
I would love to buy a new ATI 5770 or 5830, ATI budget cards seem to be much better for the buck over budget Nvidia cards, but I'm concerned with ATI drivers and long term with Ubuntu.On the Nvidia side I'm considering the GTS 250. The only advantage I can find is lower power consumption with Nvidia and Ubuntu has always preferred Nvidia over ATI, as far as working drivers go.As Far as Ubuntu and Lucid is concerned, which way is best, ATI or Nvidia? Has anything changed with ATI support, that could make theor cards more compatible now and in the future?
I can't figure out how to install the nvidia drivers for my nvidia 8800 GT video card. I've followed some other posts and all the posts seemed either incomplete, or led me down a path of which eventually broke my installation, that I needed to reinstall the entire ubuntu system.Again, it may not have been broken, i just didnt know how to get back in to the gui version of ubuntu, the instructions took me to the console terminal

I've recently installed Ubuntu and most things work except that when I play any video (from dvd, hard drive, ..... etc.) it's very jerky and with ..... for instance, the browser itself freezes up.
I've got an Nvidia 7600GT AGP graphics card and I've tried all the available drivers (versions 96, 175 & 183) but no luck. I did find a similar thread that mentioned installing the Compiz manager and changing some of the settings in that and on the Nvidia control panel, but this didnt work either.
I tried using puppylinux from a live cd and I found that video played fine from this, so I'm guessing that its just some settings that I need to change around.
