Feb 5, 2010Is there a way to NOT display the current full directory path in the terminal? I'd like to set the default to be just the current directory instead of everything back to ~.

Then I use the following command:
cd ~ zip out.zip /Dir1/file1.txt /Dir2/file2.txt
In the out.zip i can see two directories (dir1 and dir2) but want only these two files (file1.txt and file2.txt) were in the root of out.zip! I thought the "-D" option is what I need, but it doesn't work

I've added the path to /etc/environment. When I start a terminal session under my user account, the path is included in the $PATH variable. However, when I start a root terminal, it is not. Is there a way to to change $PATH on one place where it will also affect the root terminal, or do I have to change it on 2 locations?

Ubuntu :: Terminal Program That AutoComplete Path And File Names
Mar 23, 2010Atleast I think it's a terminal program. I remember several years ago while using Redhat 7 when working in the terminal it would automatically complete the pathnames and filenames for you. If I was typing in the terminal "cd downloads" but I only typed "cd do" it would automatically complete my command with "cd documents" but if I continued to type "cd dow" it would know that I don't mean the documents folder and it would know the only other folder path with a dow in it is downloads. I'm not sure if my description is 100% accurate but I think you get the idea. Ubuntu doesn't seem to have this by default and I'm curious if I can get it. Is it a terminal program/client I need to use, or just an option? I don't know what it's called so I've had a hard time googling for it!

Aug 8, 2010im installing ubuntu onto a friends ibook, but am first running it live off the disk. it runs well, except for one thing, the display has a problem,i guess it seems like its tiled on the monitor, instead of fullscreen, it has a full desktop taking about 2/3 of the monitor, a sliver of the same desktop right below it, and a line of black to the right.

Everytime I click on Firefox, the page goes to fullscreen, but the problem is that the gym class display is not zoomed to full screen (which is what we need). there are black blank parts on both the right and the bottom of the screen.There is no shortcut key working under firefox either, which means I can't zoom the screen or even enter url for any websites.I checked the gym class website on my computer, everything looks perfect. I think there must be some setting wrong on the operating machine.

Aug 3, 2011I am using CentOS5.5 & everytime it is showing command not found. If I export the path as below it will be working fine until a reboot. Again same error i.e command not found if I open new terminal. Every time I am exporting as below:
#export PATH=/sbin/:$PATH
#export PATH=/usr/sbin/:$PATH
#export PATH=/usr/bin/:$PATH
#export PATH=/bin/:$PATH
How can I set these permanently as that the paths should automatically be exported for everyone user whenever the system boots. And command completion also should happen for eg. #fdi (press tab), then it should show available options such as fdisk, etc.
Server :: Rsync Execution - With Crontab - Have Given Full Path To Rsync Too
Apr 12, 2011I have a tiny shell script to rsync files between two servers and remove the source files.
This script works fine, when it has been initiated manually or even when the rsync command is executed on the command line.
But the same script doesn't work, when I try to automate it through crontab.
I am using 'abc' user to execute this rsync, instead of root, as root login to servers are restricted in all of our servers, by us.
As I mentioned earlier, manual execution works like charm!
When this rsync.sh is initiated through crontab, it runs the first command(chown abc.abc ...) perfectly without any issues. But the second line is not at all executed, and there is no log entry i can find at /mnt/xyz/folder/rsync.log.

Nov 5, 2010I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. However the bottom of the screen is cut off with only a trace of it visible. I had similar problems with version 10.04 where both and top and bottom of the screen were not displayed.
I have noticed that version 10.10 does not use the proprietry driver the previous versions used.
In desparation I have tried Kubuntu but the results are still much the same.
Does anyone have any idea how I can display a full screen with an Nvidia integrated graphics controller.

Where can I download respective drivers. Linux drivers coming with the mobo can't work. There is no driver for Linux on the CD coming with the display. Fonts becomes very large even selecting "8". The screen can't expand to the full size of the display.
