May 19, 2010Why are there no drivers showing up under hardware drivers? i don't have anything installed, and everything is running really glitchy. All things are up to date. (besides drivers)

Ubuntu Networking :: Restricted Drivers Not Showing?
Mar 1, 2010I reinstalled ubuntu and now there isn't a box that pops up saying "restricted drivers" where my wireless would pop up saying something like Broadcom STA wireless driver. and Broadcom BZ3 wireless driver (or something like that) I would then click STA wireless driver and click "activate" then it would make my wireless card work.
Why isnt this box popping up? how do I get to it?

Nov 18, 2010for some reason the drivers for my laptop graphics are not showing up.
The laptop I have is Acer 1810T. It has intel GMA 4500MHD graphics.
I also have a desktop which has Nvidia 9800GT graphics card and the drivers for that showed up automatically when i went to additional drivers in ubuntu.

Mar 22, 2010I've got something that's really confusing me. I'm a total noob, but I read a fair bit about Ubuntu before I overwrote my windows. To make sure it worked, I used the Live run option, and it worked fine on my system. Everything worked, it notified me, however, to use the internet I'd have to download proprietary drivers (Broadcom B43 wireless driver and Broadcom STA wireless driver). I did it and my internet started working. So everything was fine and I rebooted and actually installed the OS. Once installed, it would not get internet, nor prompt for drivers being required. So I checked my manual and tried to do it manually: System / Administration / Hardware Drivers. It searched, and said there were no proprietary drivers. I thought that this was weird, so I rebooted my system "Live" again (even though it was already installed): and the Drivers were there again! They only show up in live, I can't get internet in the installed version. What's going on? How do I get these two drivers to show up on my actual installed copy, not my lie copy?

Apr 18, 2011When I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Set Nvidia Drivers - Dual Monitor Without Proprietary Drivers?
Apr 8, 2010I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

Oct 24, 2009I just installed Karmic beta and I'm having issues with getting my wireless driver to work. When I was using 9.04 and when I booted 9.10 from a CD, I could just go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and activate a wireless driver and everything would be just peachy. The problem is that, in the install of 9.10 beta, no drivers appear when I load the Hardware Drivers GUI, so I can't get wireless internet.
Is there anything I can do besides wait a few days for the full release of 9.10 and hope that solves the issue?

1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.

Ubuntu :: 300 Out Of 500 GB Showing?
Jul 17, 2010This doesn't seem to me to be particularly a ubuntu or windows problem, though i made the problem through windows. so I'll post it here and on a Windows forum and if it turns out to be specific to windows then you guys can get mad at me and delete it.
My computer had too many failed OSs and partitions on it and blank space I couldn't access, it was a mess. and I got a free windows 7 upgrade CD from Dell, so I decided to nuke it and start fresh.
I put the CD in, there was the simple upgrade button, didn't want that, went to the other option because i wanted to erase everything and start again. The next screen was a list of partitions. I deleted all partitions except the BIOS in the end. And popped windows 7 on, but it was only reading 300 GB. Windows just says: Local disk: 297, no mention of other partitions under "Disk Management", when there was blank space or linux partitions in the past it read them.
I was hoping all this would be solved when I tried to install Lucid, but it's only reading the 297GB as well. Because of this I assume Gparted will have the same problem
If I did something wrong there's no problem with starting everything over again, all i've installed is firefox on 7 and I'm running the Lucid live disk, but what should I do?
Ubuntu :: HD Not Showing ?
Aug 14, 2010I have a small issue which seems to be really wierd with Ubuntu, I have 4 disks 2x120gb 1x250gb and 1x500gb, during install I can only see the 500gb HD and none of the other, I get an LVM drive during install for 250gb but that's no good (see attachment)
Now if i run the install with "nodmraid" the raid goes away but it only sees the 500gb I can however see the other drives in GPartion if i let the installer go onto live Linux, if i then run the install from live the HD still doesn't show, I tried almost everything I change the sata connections to a different place, I've unplugged a few HD to see if there was conflicts and still nothing.
What's even more wierd however is that this only happens in Ubuntu, any other distro I just pick nodmraid and all the drives show.
Also should say my motherboard is a MSI P43 NEO-F, the 2 120gb HD are Western digital the other 2 are maxtor.

gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/toggle_fullscreen --type string "<Alt>F11"
and then suddenly the Terminal disappear, and from then I'm clicking the Terminal icon, but it's not showing up at all.

May 8, 2010I've got a laptop on which I want to install Ubuntu. I've downloaded the disc, burnt it (no errors, verified) and it boots up (with the CD in), shows a short BIOS-style copyright notice, then just a black screen with white text flashing across the screen a thousand times faster than I can read it. If I press a key, the background changes purple, then back to black if I press another key.I can't even SEE the installer. It's kind of like what happens if you set an old CRT monitor to a resolution it can't handle - but the laptop is an LCD that does 1280x800 maximum. What's going on?
