Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Connection - Netgear WNDR3700 - Couldn't Connect On Any 2.4 Ghz No Enc

Jun 7, 2010

Lucid i386 Dell inspiron 1525 with 4695agn, iwlagn driver Just installed a new router, Netgear WNDR3700 Old inspiron laptop with Hardy installed connects fine to G wireless An Acer with Vista connects fine to G wireless My Inspiron with Lucid connected fine until I enabled WPA on the routers 5Ghz band. At that point I couldn't connect on any, 2.4 Ghz no enc, or the wired connection. The Windoze pc was connecting fine. Fired up the old Hardy laptop and it connected fine.

Now here's the weirdness!! As long as I had the Hardy laptop connected either wired or wireless, I could connect to the router with the Lucid laptop to unsecured wireless or wired. Soon as I turned off the old Hardy laptop, my Lucid machine could not connect? WTF? I then disabled security on the router and I could connect with my Lucid machine?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi - Set Up The Wireless Connection Using WPA But Could Not Connect

Mar 19, 2010

Using an old (5 year) laptop with XP loaded I installed wubi to save altering partitions etc. It all downloaded fine and connected to the internet by wire. I set up the wireless connection using WPA but could not connect. The wirelsss card does see my network and others. After lurking around the forum and trying various things I found that I could connect without encryption. The more I read the more I became confused.
Anyway what I could glean about my Wireless Card it is a Intersil Prism2 mini usb adapter - but also shows up as an Acer ?? Warplink 802.11.

Using lshw I found this reference to wireless

I became even more confused and got a bit lost using the various codes in the terminal and looking up things about drivers etc but would like to persist.

Okay I've got a Netgear N-150 WNA 1100 USB WiFi adapter, it doesn't work in Ubuntu it's not supported. There should be a way to make it work with ndiswrapper. I tried and failed before and due to other non related circumstances I had to reinstall Ubuntu. What are the steps to install ndiswrapper and it's dependency's on a fresh Ubuntu installation that cannot connect to the internet.

Ubuntu Networking :: Compatibility Of Wifi Card- The Netgear Wg311v3?

May 18, 2011

I already have a wifi card- the netgear wg311v3. that had almost NO linux compatibility, so I won't make the mistake of buying any old wifi card again. What I want to know is, what's a good wifi card for Linux. Here are some requirements I have for it:

Preferably 802.11n support, but I could settle for "G" Out of the box support. As in, I don't have to use Ndiswrapper. Just pop it in, and let ubuntu do the rest I would prefer a USB based dongle, but PCI would be good too. I don't have any brand preferece.

Oct 30, 2010

I have a Netgear WG111v2 Wifi dongle, sadly there is no linux drivers for it. The only solution i can find is to use Ndiswrapper.

Will it be a major challenge writing a Linux driver ?

Where should i start ?

NB. I want to write my own driver for the following reasons:

Get a better understanding of Linux Device drivers. Probably, get a better understanding of C/C++ and Linux in general.

OpenSUSE Install :: Broke Gnome In 11.2 - Connect To The Internet Via Networkmanager And Couldn't Get Wifi Or Wired To Work

Apr 27, 2010

I was having a problem with cairo dock, asked on the board how to resolve was told to reinstall the visual driver for my monitor since I have an ati vid card since with the updated kernal u have to reinstall those drivers(didn't know that, I'm new to opensuse). I thought I did that before so I completely uninstalled it so I could then do a fresh reinstall but I wasn't paying attention and my laptop was unplugged for a while. I stepped away while the install was going on and my laptop died.

I tried plugging it in but had to restart my laptop when I did I got the command line rows and when I tried to start GDM it wouldn't start, I did so as SU. Attempted to connect to the internet via networkmanager and couldn't get wifi or wired to work. Anyway I can access my desktop visually just so I can start yast and install the driver or will I have to reinstall 11.2 or use the cd to repair? If so how do I use the cd to repair?

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Netgear ReadyNAS Duo

Nov 4, 2010

I have managed to connect to the above NAS using the supplied RAIDar software from my base unit. The unit is duel boot with Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP. Both operating systems work with the NAS both by wireless and wired using RAIDar and any other relevant programme

However my laptop, running Ubuntu, will not find it using Raidar, the IP address in a browser nor with a file manager or any other programme. I have tried both wired and wireless connections

However if I go to "places" from the top bar, which opens Nautilus, I can access it and all the files on it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting To Router - Netgear DG834 - Connection Often Being Dropped

Jul 12, 2010

I have a Netgear DG834 ADSL router (v3) which I have used for a couple of years. Prior to that I had a v2 of the same router, but upgraded for the one that supports ADSL 2+ (here in the UK).

Recently I have been having problems with the connection often being dropped, and when I access 192.168.0.1 for the router admin page, when it is not working I get no IP address listed for that of the ISP's server, and sometimes as well the upstream and downstream speeds are listed as 0 kbps.

Usually this was resolved by rebooting the router.

However, for the last couple of days, when using Ubuntu 9.04, the page of the router at 192.168.0.1 will not load. I have tried numerous different browsers, and none of them will give the router admin page.

When I tried booting from a live CD of Fedora 13, the router admin page came up just fine, no problems (although still not getting a proper connection to the Internet).

I was going to try to use the older router I had, but so far, as I cannot access the router admin page in Ubuntu, I have not done so (not had the time, and now I am at work posting this).

So there must be a problem in Ubuntu that is preventing it showing the router's admin page. The Network connection details show that the router has given the PC an IP address of 192.168.0.6 and the DNS servers are listed, so I know that Ubuntu is talking to the router, but it is not allowing me to access its settings in any way.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can See Wireless Network But Can't Connect - Netgear WN111 / Fix It?

Jul 4, 2010

I have managed to setup ndiswrapper and am able to see my wireless network but cannot connect to it.

I am using NDISWRAPPER and a Netgear WNDA3100 driver (I think this is Atheros-based) to connect through a Netgear WN111 USB Wireless dongle to my existing wireless network. I am running 9.04 on a Fujitstu-Siemens laptop.

I am aware that the WNDA 3100 driver is not the intended driver for my WN111 dongle, but it is the only driver that showed "hardware present" when loaded. All others (I tried perhaps 5 or 6) showed driver installed but no info about hardware.

When I try to connect to the network it tries for a while, occasionally prompting me for the passphrase, and then eventually stops.

I would like some help figuring out what else I need to do. I feel I am nearly at the solution. My guesses are as follows (for what they're worth):

1. Could it be something to do with the WPA security?

2. Could it be something to do with this, output from dmesg?

Quote:

[ 20.737363] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan1: link is not ready

3. Could I need to set some further parameters in the network manager?

Like I said, it picks up my wireless connection. But when I go to connect it attempts to connect for like a minute or two then goes back to not connected.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Connection Sharing : 3G/4G USB Dongle And Netgear WGR614 Wireless Router?

Jan 1, 2011

I have internet access through 3G/4G USB dongle direct into my Ubuntu 10.04 box. Works great! Now I would like to share this connection out through my Netgear WGR614 wireless (and wired) router. Any clues? I've tried the simple (GUI) instructions using Network Manager, but just can't seem to get it right. Previously, I had DSL and this plugged nicely into the WGR614 and internet and ethernet access was had by all. Now, I'm a bit confused on how to get the sharing (ethernet and wireless) between my Ubuntu box and the wired/wireless network while at the same time getting Internet access to all through the Ubuntu box.

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - WiFi Connection Not Working

Feb 3, 2010

I just recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a dell laptop. My WiFi connection that I've been using on the same computer for years is not working when I log on. However if I run the burnt image cd and choose the option "Use Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer" I am asked if I want install proprietary drivers. If I activate one "Broadcom STA" I can connect to the wireless connection in my house. When I am using the version installed on my laptop it doesn't ask me if I want to install the drivers and it doesn't even find them when I go to hardware drivers under system. So to sum it up I can get connection when I run Ubuntu from the cd but not when I run the Ubuntu on my laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connection Refused Through Wifi?

Jul 23, 2010

I cant connect with ssh to my workstation using my notebooks wireless lan. with cable I'm able to connect.so the funny thing is, if I first establish a connection from my workstation to my notebook (like ssh it or just ping the notebook) I'm able to create a ssh connection from my laptop to the workstation using wireless lan.scanning my workstation from the wireless lan of my notebook with

Code:
nmap -sT -p 22 ventury
says port 22 is closed

scanning it from the notebook with cable lan,it says port 22 is opened

scanning it from the wireless lan of my notebook an have sent a ping from the workstation before says port 22 is opened.ution.

I got a 64bit version of Kubuntu 10.04, up to date, installed on both, my workstation(ventury) and my notebook (defiant).the question is: Do I always have to ping my notebook first if I want to ssh from it to my workstation or is there some other solution? And why does it work fine with cable, but not with WiFi?

Ubuntu Networking :: 2wire WiFi Connection In 10.04?

Jan 9, 2011

I'm brand new to Ubuntu, and Linux in general, and honestly don't know what I am doing. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my external hard drive and am able to boot fine (other than an issue with my monitor falling asleep because my graphics card needs a different driver. I have a work around for this that i'm currently using but I would like to fix it permanently and thus need an internet connection.)

When trying to connect to the network in my home, I am unable to. I click on the WiFi symbol in the top right corner, and I can see my network. I then click it and a page comes up asking for the key. I put it in but it doesn't sync and usually after a minute or so it pops back up asking for the key again. What can I do to gain internet access? I'm unable to connect my computer via a hard wire Ethernet cord and need to sort out this WiFi issue.

Ubuntu Networking :: MacBook Pro 7,1 Wifi Connection?

Mar 14, 2011

I bought my MacBook Pro at the beginning of the school year when I went to college. I am now living in a dorm where I do not have access to wired internet connection, so I cannot just plug my computer in to download stuff. If need be I can of course borrow someone else's computer to download something and then just transfer it over with a flash drive.

Anyway, I have a virtually new MacBook Pro that I bought in August. Using refit I have dual-booted OS X and Ubuntu (obviously I am posting this from within OS X) but I cannot manage to get connected wirelessly to the internet. I have tried this many many times with many many distros and have never once been able to connect. I understand that there are various tutorials around but none of them seem to help me at all and I really want this to work. I've been looking around and trying things for about two days now. Can someone give me step by step instructions (or point me toward some simple ones) starting, if need be, from a fresh install as to how to get wifi working on my macbook pro? I am also completely willing to switch versions of Ubuntu if that would help.

Ubuntu Networking :: WiFi Won't Connect

Dec 2, 2010

Having played around with ubuntu a fair bit I decided to breathe life into an old thinkpad with a pcmcia wireless card, by following the minimal install instructions and using lxde window manager etc.. Everything works fine apart from the fact that I cannot connect wirelessly. The card picks up and lists connections but whenever I have clicked on a connection the dail spins and then it gives up.I installed network-manager and managed to get nm-applet appearing in the sysTray otherwise I would not even have known there was wireless connections there.

I was thinking there maybe some conflict with another network manager, does this sound likely?
