Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless?

Aug 19, 2010

I'm a first time Ubuntu user and I just installled it more out of curiosity than anything else so I don't know jack abiut linux just that people say it's better.

Anyway I have a Dell Inspiron 1526 laptop and I'm unable to connect to the wireless network. The router that we use is an Apple Airport Express device to connect.

I checked using the troubleshooting guide and this is what I got in the Terminal:

moofknock@moofknock-laptop:~$ sudo lshw -C network
[sudo] password for moofknock:
*-network
description: Network controller

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Networks And Unable To Configure Network

Jul 27, 2010

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.

Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network

However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.

Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless / Why Is So?

Aug 14, 2010

I just dual-booted my Acer Aspire 3810TZ laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. When I first tried to connect to my home wireless network, it connected fine. However, now whenever I start the laptop, it will not connect. The network appears in the available networks list, but it fails to connect. I know the network is ok, because I can still connect to it fine from Windows.

My network adapter is Intel Wifi 1000 BGN. Apparently (from [URL]) the drivers for this card should be part of the distribution.

I can't understand why it connected once, but (without any changes to the system at all) it won't work now.

I have setup a wireless connection but it is not connecting to it. I have checked the router settings and these seem to be OK! I'll try to give any details required.

Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 Unable To Connect To Wireless Network?

Jul 16, 2011

I installed 11.04 ubuntu 2 days ago. I have had thousands issues trying to connect to my wireless network router dlink di524. My wireless card is a dlink dwl g122 ver c1. I can't connect to the network no matter what configuration I try.

- first time i tried to connect i had static ip settled on my router so I tried to configure Network manager from GUI. I couldn't connect; it kept trying to connect forever. so I completely removed from terminal NM (using guides on internet) e installed wicd: same problem. Tried to configure manually network/interfaces file. Didn't work. Reset router and set dhcp . Tried everything again first with NM and then wicd. Didn't solve. Reinstalled ubuntu, fearing I messed up with some configuration files and reset again router. No solution

Tried pinguy os, zorin e linux mint . Nope Borrowed a network card from a friend after reading dlink dwl g122 could have some issues with linux. Tried this realtek card : same problems as above. Finally I tried again after the fifth reinstallation of ubuntu. Both NM and wicd keep saying wrong password. Changed different password. Password is fine of course (i'm using it now with win) So I Reset router password to none. Now it says: "acquiring ip address" and keep saying that forever. So i tried the last attempt: I tried to connect from zorin5 live to the same wifi network.. Ok so I happily reinstalled everything again (zorin5). first access after installation: same problems as above

Now I'm using win7 on the same wifi network, router, and same card (cards) and everything works fine at first attempt.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect (wireless) Since Upgrade To 11.04

Jul 19, 2011

What has changed to the wireless function and possibly the use of the ndiswrapper in 11.04.

I originally install ubuntu 9.10 and immediately upgraded to 10.04. I have just now decided to upgrade to 10.10 and then to 11.04. Everything went ok and all still worked fine up until the upgrade to 11.04.

I've checked my settings and they are fine. The power light is still on my wireless card but no connection?

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Router

Aug 12, 2011

Firstly, the actual problem I'm having is that when I start my computer (netbook) up in the morning and try to connect to the router (wirelessly) it just... doesn't work. I've used it before, at full signal strength, and it was completely fine. It never disconnects me or anything - but if I shut down my computer, like I do overnight, when I start it up again often it's hardly getting a signal at all (or so it says) and when it tries to connect it makes the connecting animation and occasionally flashes to a circular thing like firefox's loading animation. Eventually it just fails.

I try restarting my computer, but it doesn't seem to help. The last time, I had to wait until the signal looked "full" again, then delete the settings in "edit connections" for that router and only then would it let me log in again, even though I was using the same password from the same computer (even in the same place). That only seems to help when the connection looks "full" though, and even then, not always. Normally I'd try resetting the router, but I can't because it's locked in the next room (I rent a room here and the guy with the key is rarely around) but honestly I don't think the router is causing this, for a few reasons:............

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Network At Work

Jul 14, 2011

Currently I'm having trouble connecting to the guest wireless network at my work. I've read through a couple threads that seem similar to my problem. I tried going through the terminal window and following the instructions that was offered to others. I'm just wondering if my hardware is different, if I need drivers, if my permissions aren't correct.

1. I recently received a Sony Vaio laptop model # VGN-FE770G from a friend, and I'm enjoying running Ubuntu.

2. I followed another thread that suggested to change some lines in /etc/network/interfaces, but I don't have permission to edit this file. I don't really have the need to set up multiple users on my laptop, so how can I change my permissions to root? (Or is it a good idea even?) Should I log in as root?

3. How can I set my laptop up to be flexible with network selections, using hardware: (built-in camera and microphone for example), and useful applications?

I ran "ifconfig -a" and this is what I got.

Heres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.

This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.
