Heres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.
This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.
Ubuntu 10.10

2WIRE modem
i cannot connect to the web with the above services. Even when it says "connection established" it still would not work. there is always a lock next to the server name.
I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.

I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been looking through the Debian wiki, searching past topics in the forum, and generally googling, but all to no avail. I'm unable to connect to the internet through any wireless connections, nor through an ethernet cable. I installed the latest weekly image of Debian squeeze. After installation, I found myself on the command line. I installed gnome with
apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment I also tried installing gnome-applets, gnome-netstatus-applet, and gnome-nettool, but I guess they were already installed. When I open System > Administration > Network in Gnome, there's no connections tab in the Network Settings application.
Here's what I think is the relevant portion of lspci -v

I'm one of those people migrating from Ubuntu and in Ubuntu I had to add a 'rfkill -unblock all' command to my rc.local file for this laptop. Not sure if that's relevant, but thought more info couldn't hurt.
My wireless network is being detected but it refuses to connect to it. I am entering the accurate passcode and I have tried doing various commands for it to work, but it is being stubborn.
Also, it would help to know which WEP Index to use and type of Authentication.
I am unable to connect to wireless network in ubuntu 10.10.i have noticed that the iwlagn driver isnt been used by anything.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."
Currently I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows XP on it. I want to switch to Ubuntu, so I have the OS on a flash drive and I can run it fine. The only problem is,I cant see any wireless networks in range. I know the router is working because I can connect with Windows fine. A notification also pops up telling me i have to install missing drivers. But when i click on install, the progress gets to 99% and fails. It says i need the Broadcom B43 driver, but i don't know how to get it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for 3 days now, gone to a couple of ubuntu sites, asked some friends who unfortunately don't have the time to assist me, and gone through several forum responses on here to try to find the solution to my problem. The problem is my inability to connect to my wireless network. I have a linksys USB device for my wireless, and the wireless router is literally right next door to my room. I am able to find my router and my neighbor's router from my computer. However I can not connect to my router. It is WPA enabled, and I have the correct password. It is just unable to connect to the network, it tries for a few minutes then doesn't connect at all and says wireless network disconnected. I am currently hooked up to an unsecured wireless network, but I can't connect to the internet. I am using firefox, but it doesn't seem to connect to any site I try.

I use Hasee L141 notebook and ever since I installed ubuntu, my internet connection using both wire and wireless does not work but for the windows it works alright. I asked friends to help me but it yielded no result. Is there anything that I'm missing? I re-installed it several times but still had the same problems.Someone please help me. I even tried installing using the wubi.exe but still the same problem.

I'm not dual booting.
I bought a new Eee PC yesterday ripped off Windows and stuck Ubuntu 10.04 on (which is great by the way). It's all working fine except for the wireless I think I have: RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe. I've installed ndiswrapper and installed the drivers and I can connect to my wireless but I get no internet. It works fine on my windows box or when I plug the cable in. I've looked around and been fiddling with it for hours and no joy, it all seems to be installed correctly its just not working!

I have a LG X140 G.BG12P1. This netbook has a factory installed Windows 7 Starter Edition, which is working without any problems or issues. I recently installed on a free partition the Ubuntu Netbook 10.10, and I'm really upset because of the wireless issues I'm having here. If I use the Ethernet wired connection, I don't have any problems. In Windows 7, I don't have any problems either on Ethernet and on Wireless card. But when I try to use Ubuntu with the wireless card, I'm having very slow access to web pages, and sometimes they simply refuse to appear. I can open my DIR-655 router web pages without any problems. It appears to be a DNS related problem, because when I try to opne web pages using their IP (like [url]) I don`t have this issue. I modified my resolv.conf file to inlude my ISP DNS, but didn't work.

I am VERY new to all of this, so if it's possible please use very "babyish" words if that's okay. I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 and it works awesome, I love it so much! However, I can't get wireless to work. It works for my Windows Vista which is on the same laptop I installed Ubuntu on... what do I do?? If it's okay, can someone on here talk step by step explaining in newbie terms because I am very very new to computer stuff. I really love Ubuntu so far but need to get internet so I have the full advantages of it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using Windows XP, and last month i had Linux Mint installed. I was connecting to the internet with an external modem and everything was running fine, until while experimenting with the settings,i bust the whole thing. What i did was to do a "right click" on the 'computer icon' at the bottom right-hand corner to disconnect and from that day i am unable to connect from Linux, but i can still do it under Windows.I had done the same thing under Windows but after going to the 'control panel/network settings' i managed to get the thing working.I went to the 'control panel' in Linux, and under 'network ' i get the message: "Auto eth0 => never". i have been trying to 'edit' the 'settings'
