Oct 16, 2010i'm running ubuntu 10.04. i've followed these instructions:[URL]that got the light for the wireless on my laptop to light up but it doesn't seem to be able to find any networks.when i click on "connect to hidden wireless network" and enter the details + encryption code. it spends a few minutes trying to connect before asking for my encryption code again but i know that the code i entered is right.i'm using a belkin router with wpa/wpa2 encryption. but i think it's a problem with the wireless on my laptop rather than a problem with my specific network because under windows on other machines in my house i can see some of my Neighbours networks

Jul 27, 2010I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

My router was originally not broadcasting ssid, so I turned broadcasting on. Now I can see the router, but when I enter a password (which I know is correct) nothing gets connected.

Mar 5, 2011I'm running ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop.Wireless networks appear on the dropdown menu but when I try to connect to my home network the authentication box appears, after typing my password the box disappears and it continues to connect but nothing happens and after a while the authentication box appears again. So.. no internetz connected.

May 22, 2011While staying at a hotel that offered wireless Internet connection connection I was not able to access their network. I contacted their technical support 800 number and was told that the north building server had been down for 26 hours. I moved to a south builing room. Same problem. I went to McDonald's, which had wi-fi connection. Same thing. My laptop was not able to make a connection.
My question is as follow:
How do I find out:
1) whether it is a problem with my new Ubuntu version (10.04)?
2) my wireless card in my laptop is no longer working? Are there any tests that I can run?

Aug 11, 2009My wireless network is being detected but it refuses to connect to it. I am entering the accurate passcode and I have tried doing various commands for it to work, but it is being stubborn.
Also, it would help to know which WEP Index to use and type of Authentication.

Jun 11, 2011For some reason, ubuntu cannot find local wireless networks. In fact, the Broadcom wireless card Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n seems to be incompatible with ubuntu. I've tried numerous 'solutions' on the Internet, but none of them seem to work on my computer. Tutorials I've visited have recommended downloading the b43 drivers from the Synaptic package manager and also the bcmwl-kernal-source package. Nevertheless, the wireless never turns on and Additional Drivers never shows anything at all. After several exasperating hours of trying to get my wireless running I've decided to turn to the forum for help. I'm sure there's probably more information I should supply, but I'm honestly not sure what that would be.

Feb 1, 2011I went out and purchased a Sabrent PCI wireless 802.11n card with the RT2860 chipset because it was on the ubunutu compatibility list and has linux driver available from the manufacturer. I was impressed that the card worked in wireless G mode out of the box, which is a great start....
However, I can't find any wireless N networks. Dual booting I can find/use my N network, but in ubuntu I can only find my G network. This is somewhat frustrating because I bought this card and a new (read: expensive) Linksys E3000 router specifically to run a nice new N network...
I have downloaded, made, and installed (reboot) the latest driver from the manufacturer, but it still won't find any N networks. I found a few posts by searching here and google that alluded to changing this line: "HT_OpMode=1" (from 0 to 1) in the config file RT2860STA.dat located in /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/ and a reboot. It didn't work for me.
Frankly all this rebooting is starting to **** me off ... I have spent most of last night trying to setup my 180$ wireless network and its still no better than the freebie DDWRT54g based wifi it replaced. I am frustrated, perhaps someone wiser in the ways of ubuntu and wireless N can shed some light on the situation....
I forgot to mention I am on Karmic Kola, amd64 with the standard gnome.

Nov 12, 2010I have been using Ubuntu for quite a long time and I never got around fixing this particular wireless problem. I have tried Network Manager as well as Wicd. I am never able to connect to a secure network (WPA). When I use Network Manager, it just tries for a long time and gives up. As for WiCD, it again tries for a long time and finally says "Bad Password". Of course, the passkey is correct. When I connect to an unsecured network, it goes through just fine. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 which uses a Broadcom 43xx Driver.

Jun 30, 2010I have an Atheros AR242x card. It can see my wireless network (WPA2). When i attempt to connect to the network it asks for the WPA2 passphrase. After entering the password it begins connecting but hangs up for about 3 minutes before saying wireless disconnected. The wireless worked for one day on a fresh install (Ubuntu 10.04)and then started doing this.

Aug 1, 2010I have a WLAN Driver Azure Wave AW-NU222 Wireless LAN Card in my Medion computer.
After installing Ubuntu it seems to detect the wireless networks in my area. However, when I try to connect to my network, it tries for several minutes and then times out with no error message. I have set up the credentials and also tried removing the encryption (WPA-PSK) from the network itself, but it still doesn't connect.
Connect via an Ethernet cable is fine, and I know that the network is good because I can connect via my Windows Laptop and various other wireless devices.
I suspect it's due to drivers, but I'm having trouble downloading a driver which I can try and install using Ndiswrapper. The Medion website just a windows executable when I try and download the driver specific to my machine when I really need the .inf file.

Sep 27, 2010Here is a situation I have never come across (though I have only been using linux since 2004).I am running ubuntu 10.04 and using Wicd Network Manager.I can connect to my WPA encrypted home network, but if I go to my coffee shop to use their unencrypted wifi - I cannot.Even using the terminal. Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 - New Wireless USB - Finds Networks, Can't Connect?
May 20, 2011So I was the one who couldn't get their ethernet port to function properly. Most likely, this was the result of bad hardware since none of the community's suggestions for software fixes did anything. I believe this is probably true.Indeed, when I bought a cheap $10 wireless USB dongle, it immediately worked better than all the previous things. It detected networks, displayed network strength and even allowed me to attempt login.
The only problem now seems to be that it cannot login. I've rechecked the password countless times, but it just shows the 'connecting to wireless' animation for a minute or two and then poops out and says, 'disconnected'.I assume if everything is getting me this far, the driver is not the problem with the device. Is this a safe assumption?

Aug 25, 2010I have a Toshiba NB300 netbook that has an Atheros AR9285 wireless chipset and is running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. At my University there is a FreeRadius authenticated wireless network (called "UCC") that I would like to connect to. Using NetworkManager I have created an automatic profile called "Auto UCC" that contains my user details for the connection. When attempting to connect to the network, the NetworkManager icon spins for a couple of minutes and then presents me with the authentication dialog. If I re-enter my details (and disable the CA cert prompt), it repeats the process seemingly infinitely (spin-spin-spin, auth box) Attached is a copy of the syslog from first attempting to connect to stopping the connection attempts. May 30, 2010I've installed it no problems on my desktop and I really love it. Now I'm trying to install it on my Satellite and I'm having a couple of problems. When trying to connect to my wireless network, I can see my network, but it will just keep asking me for my WEP. I've confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the network or the password I've provided. Sometimes when I boot up, the network manager just says that the wireless networks are disconnected and can't find any. The wired connection always works just fine.

May 16, 20103 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online.My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.
Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied.It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.
I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.

I realize that Ubuntu recognizes the card, but I'm not sure why it's not picking up any networks that are around and says "disconnected", even though I've made sure that the wireless network light is enabled on the netbook.

Mar 9, 2011Right so I just bought an Acer TimelineX with a Broadcom BCM43225 BCM43225 802.11b/g/n WiFi card. With this card I am not able to detect any wireless networks and after googling around I found out other people have had similar issues. But my problem is kind of unique in the sense that I'm using Backtrack as my Linux distribution (I'm not a blackhat or anything, more of an enthusiast with no malicious intentions) Also I'm not a God at Linux so if you have any solutions please be verbose! Dec 1, 2009I have Fedora 11 x86_64 installed in my pc.this morning i accidentally pressed "remove the network manager icon" from the main panel and now i cannot find ANY way to put it back.in the services the network manager is working.when i plug the ethernet cable i have access thankfully since it was set to automatic before but i cannot select any wireless networks.all my devices eth0 and wlan0 are controlled by the network manager.i tried to uninstall it and install it back through yum (i know it is what a windows user would do) and nothing still.

Jan 28, 2011I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS from 9.10 and the icon that lets me view and choose wireless networks to connect to has mysteriously disappeared. I did the whole "Add to Panel" thing and added the "Network Connections" icon to my task bar, but for all the searching through that and other things like System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications, I just can't find a solution! The Network Preferences still has the list of all the wireless networks I have connected to in the past. It still connects to my home network automatically (although I did have to delete another neighboring network from the Network Preferences list so it only has one auto connection to connect to). So where in the world did my icon go? It was so great. Left click to see all local wireless networks and to connect. Right click to turn off networking or wireless.
