This holds true in Transmission and NOT in Vuze. UPnP is enabled, ports are randomized and open each time. Pings to outside still work fine, but I cannot browse to websites (404 errors) when the app is running. I'm stumped, is Transmission locking all other in bound traffic/ports except the one it wants to use?

'm running an HP Pavilion 760n with 512MB of RAM and (I think?) a Pentium III processor... not sure on that one right now. It's currently running a laptop version of Ubuntu 10.04.I went to log into my online classes tonight only to find that the computer wasn't responding at all. I did a hot shutdown and restarted it, and now the system isn't detecting the internet connection at all. It should be noted that the connection was working perfectly fine earlier today, perhaps 6 or 7 hours ago.I know it's something to do with my computer and not my router, as I'm on my wireless network from a Windows 7 laptop and it's connecting just fine.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64-bit on my desktop with a wired internet connection (with no firewall). For the past 2 days, I have observed that1. Firefox randomly throws up errors like "Problem loading page" whenever I click on a hyperlink. When I click on Reload, the page loads up just fine. This has been happening a lot recently..and I do not remember updating anything consciously. By the way, ipv6 is disabled in Firefox.2. The network stops working all of a sudden (usually indicated by the Firefox error). The Autho Eth0 indication is active, but I am unable to connect to any external machine.
3. Needless to say, this error is manifesting itself in apt-get as well. I get "something wicked happened" errors all the time, and am unable to download or install anything.That this is not a problem with the ISP is obvious because I also have Windows (from which I'm typing this, ironically), which is able to access the internet.Is this a bug in Ubuntu 10.10?
my netbook (running 10.10) has recently decided to only work with my wireless for a short while after connecting. After this time, it just won't load a page at all, but remains connected to the router. Disconnecting then reconnecting to the network allows me to use the internet again, but only for a short while. This is a recent problem, and the netbook used to "just work" with wireless.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently erased my hard drive and installed ubuntu 9.10 all over again. I updated as expected and everything was going well, until, my internet stopped working after maybe 40 mins or so after a successful boot. Now this same thing happens every 40 mins and I have to reboot the computer by forcing my laptop to shut down by holding down the power button. This also made me aware of another problem when restarting or logging off my laptop. The laptop hangs at that terminal-syled screen and the underscore blinks and fails to shut the computer down/log off. I resort to holding down the power button to restart. I am using a wireless connection with WEP key protection.

Everytime I use Transmission for torrent download, even if I only have a single torrent, my firefox is unable to access the internet. I assume this cannot be a bandwidth problem, so what is it.

My wireless disconnects frequently and firefox seems to stop working. it seems the connection times out sometimes when firefox stops. other times the connection just disconnects. When I was running 9.04 everything worked and nothing disconnected, so I know its not my computer.
My laptop is an IBM t40, 1.4 ghz, 2gig of ram.It does not seem to mater if Im using the wireless or the wired connection. The problem happens either way.does anyone have a solution for this?
i did install opensuse and everything ok; i did configure it to be the server and gateway for a little office network Everything seems to be ok most of the time but sometimes (usually between 5 and 7 pm each day) internet stops working and there is no way to let it start again. So i turn off the suse, switch all cables to the old fedora server, just turn it on fedora and internet works. Turn off fedora, connect suse, let it start and everythng ok...it happens all the times

The only way to solve the problem is to reconnect to my WLAN. I use a TP Link WR841N wireless router and a Toshiba satellite pro. The same setup is OK with windows and ubuntu 11.04 alpha3.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi was using ubuntu 9.10 till recently when i decided to upgrade to ubuntu lucid 10.04. turns out the internet icon shows connected after fresh installation but when i try to use firefox , after an long wait it shows server not found. i did a research of my own and found that i am not able to ping even my router.using sudo dhclient eth0 doesn't recieve offers , but surprisingly when i tried dhclient eth0 in root shell with networking internet got configured very quickly and i can ping the router and any website.i forgot to mention i have a wired connection which i am trying to connect and the net is working fine with windows 7 on the same PC.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy machine has Ubuntu 10.4, installed a week ago. I'm connecting to the Internet with a Wireless 3G modem, the interface is named ppp0. Additionally, I have a network card that is connected to a home router, that's eth0. Everything works fine with eth0 disabled, all my apps can access the internet correctly. But, my issue is that when i enable eth0, i can't access the internet with any app.
So why do i need eth0 anyway? The thing is that i must share my internet connection with my sister, who is also connected to our home router. I planned to give her access by installing squid on this machine and configuring her browser to connect to squid. However, since none of my apps can connect to the internet while eth0 is active (whereas squid and all other apps work fine with eth0 disabled) I can't let her connect to squid while squid is working correctly.BTW selecting "use this connection only for resources on its network" under "routes..." of the ipv4 tab of "Auto Ethernet" made it a little better. Firefox and Xchat started to work with eth0 active. Squid still doesn't work though (althought it works just fine with eth0 disabled)
I am running the latest ubuntu and I am having trouble getting networking sorted. I have 2 networks, one wired (eth0) and one wireless (wlan0). I connect to the internet using wireless. The problem is that I can only successfully connect to the internet if I disconnect from eth0. I have hit this problem with Windows machines and the solution was to adjust the "interface metric" in "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" so that the wireless was the preferred connection. How can I achieve something similar in Ubuntu?

As soon as I switch OFF the LAN switch, I am able to access internet. The IP addresses of the other PCs are configured as 192.168.0.2 etc. with gateway as 192.168.0.1 and DNS same as the DNS on the external interface. I can ping 192.168.0.1 from the LAN but neither LAN nor the main PC can access net. I was planning to Masquerade and NAT the other computers without using squid
My setup is as follows
ISP - Modem(192.168.1.1) - Ubuntu desktop 9.04(external interface eth0 192.168.1.21 & internal interface eth1 192.168.0.1) - switch - LAN (comprising of Ubtuntu 9.04, 9.10, 10.4 & XP machines with IP 192.168.0.2 - 8 and gateway of 192.168.0.1) I did NAT as per [URL]
This worked perfectly well 1 day Next day onwards whenever the LAN switch is "ON" the main Ubuntu wudnt get internet and the internet connection would work only when the LAN switch is turned "OFF". Even if all the PCs in LAN were to be switched off, the main Ubuntu would behave similarly i.e. internet would work only when switch isn't connected to it or switched off.
A couple of days ago I Obtained a spare computer and installed fedora 14 on it, just to try it out. I only have experience with microsoft windows so I'm new to this system. The OS seems to work fine but I can't browse the internet with firefox. I'm using a speedtouch 546 v6 modem with adsl(wired). The network manager indicates that the wired connection "auto eth1" is active. The previous OS was windows xp. I was able to browse the internet whit this OS. I removed it because it was crashing all the time (illegal version).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems with wireless, it works fine on boot but after a while pretty much randomly, it can be a few days or it can be a few hours, it stops working. I'm not sure which command would tell you what and it would take a little while to debug it because like I said it's random, but if anyone knows what to do please tell me! I'm on Lucid Lynx 10.04.Another something that's really bothering me (But not related to wireless) is that for some reason when I restart my computer, the top panel keeps changing the applets locations.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have created a Samba share, using the fantastic Webmin tool. I have a network media player which can connect to my router, and then access windows (samba) shares. Most of the time, it works fine - it's able to stream HDTV wirelessly across the network. However, every so often, it just stops working ... the media player sees :
Network, then
WORKGROUP, then
FILESERVER-1 (machine name), then
Media (share name), then
Video (subdir, then
TV_Shows (subdir), then
MyShow.AVI ... just hangs
if I use the Webmin tool, I see multiple samba connections all from the media player. Restarting samba seems to have no effect. The only way to fix it, is to reboot.
logfile I can check, or a setting I can tweak to fix this issue ?
When it get like this, trying to access the share from a windows machine, just gives me an error saying it can't find the machine. But when it's rebooted, it works fine.
I have mapped the "nobody" linux user to "guest" which is what the media player is defaulted to login with (it's primarily sold as a "Windows" media player), and using Webmin I have assigned the "nobody" user read-only rights to the samba share. It worked fine for 6 months, until I added this new drive.

I have a Sabrent USB 802.11N adapter. (I am using 64-bit Ubuntu in all below)
I plug it into a 9.04 box and it works fine. Plug it into a 9.10 box. Network manager sees it and can attach to the network, but has 0% signal strength, no internet.
Rebuild the 9.04 box with a fresh install to 9.10. 0% signal, no internet. Try 10.04 Alpha 2, 0% signal strength, no internet.
Rebuild same box down to 9.04. Works perfectly. 100% signal strength. I do all updates and then the upgrade to 9.10 using the USB. Everything works fine until the reboot. Then, USB connects, but 0% signal strength, no internet. Oh! ifconfig says the wlan0 interface is up, but it has a random ip address.
I don't mind using 9.04 because for the forseeable future, the box is just going to count aliens for Seti, but my wife wants it off the counter and I would like to upgrade someday.

but the problem continues even after that ... is there something else I can try to disable?r some way of getting the details of these two connections to see exactly what the difference is?
I upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu a few months ago, and ever since then, the ethernet connection to my router stops working when I restart the machine. It eventually comes back, but after varying amounts of time. Sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes 2 days.
Restarting the computer and cycled reboots of the router don't seem to have any beneficial effect, at least that I can detect.
The light for the slot on the router does not light up like it normally would, so it's almost like the OS doesn't even recognize the network card.

New Toshiba laptop dual booting with Windows 7. I really like MM 10.10 and most things are working great! Periodically I will be web browsing and I lose connection. At first I thought it was Firefox but if I try to disconnect wireless and reconnect it will no longer connect unless I reboot. My network is hidden but Ubuntu finds it no problem on a fresh boot and connects per my settings and it is not a network problem since I can connect to Windows all day long and the rest of the family never has problems.
My wirless device is: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvB Wireless LAN Controller (rev 10)n and all OS updates are applied that I can find. I am thinking about un-hidding my network since years ago that used to be a problem with Redhat and even early Ubuntu but beyond that I cannot think of what else to try.

I'm currently working with Ubuntu 10.10.I wanted to add a default route to a gateway named ppp0.I did it with the command> route add default ppp0It works ok. But then from time to time it suddenly stops and I have to go back again to the server and retype the command. I'm clueless as to why is it happening. I can assure no one is working at the server or doing anything over there.Does anyone know causes that might be triggering route default to stop working?Btw where is the best place to add this command so it will be executed automatically on start-up and without needing to login to the server?

I got a Lenovo G550 with a BCM4312, at first i found some troubles making it work but i managed to find a proper driver and it is working "fine" Every 5 minutes or so my WiFi freezes and internet stops working. I don't get disconnected from the network, but until i don't reconnect to it, internet will not work.
Rare thing is, i realised that this happens ONLY when my notebook is plugged in. When it's working on battery, this does not happen. If i use it on battery it works for 30-40 mins (or more) and 3 minutes after i plug it in, it just stops working. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, if there is any information i could give, just tell me. I also have a Windows partition and this does not happen there, either plugged in or on battery.
I have a Trendnet TEW-649UB Wifi N dongle, and I'm using the latest Realtek firmware downloaded from their website. It works ok, but everytime, after an hour or two, the blue light turns off and the dongle stops working. I have to unplug it and plug it back to bet my network back up.
