Hardware :: AMD HD6950 Driver Not Active - (Ubuntu 11.04)

Yesterday I made my first Linux(Ubuntu 11.04 x64) Installation I think I have some Issues with my GPU driver.
My System Specs:
Core i5-750@stock
4GB DDR3 1333MHz
Corsair F60 SSD

Symptoms:
-GUI feels laggy
-glxgears result way too low (2100fps)
-HD video verry laggy (1080p mkv with vlc)
I can set things up on Catalyst Control Center like VSync or scaling options, but if I go to System->System Administration->Additional Drivers (I have german version installed so it could be called slightly different) there is a listing for the FGLRX proprietary Driver and its marked as not active. (Last time I tried to activate it, it broke my bootloader somehow) So I wanted to ask what I should do (before I risk my bootloader a second time by activating the driver in that particular menu)

I am thinking of buying the ATi card. Two things I would like to know from other ATi users:
1. Does compiz-fusion work without issues?
2. Given I have an i7 920, given there is no vdpau for ATi; the i7 should be able to handle the strain of say a 1080p video with little fuss?

After trying to make audio output work on Lenovo b560 notebook I finally succeeded but the wireless stopped working. The driver was removed. I tried to follow the instructions from Broadcom http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt and it started showing the driver in admin - drivers, it shows that it is activated but not in use, but once I get to this point
"modprobe wl"
it shows this:

I have been away for a while but I'm back and I've upgraded to ubuntu 11.04 when I log in to the new desktop there's nothing just one gnome bar at the top and what I think is the unity launcher on the side but there is no icons on it like the screen shots I've seen.I also have the nvidia driver 275.09 installed but it's saying Driver installed but not active.

how to setup an Active/Active Load Balanced and High Available (If one of the nodes is down the system still runs) MySQL cluster. I have found quite a few howto's but I have some things unclear in my mind. I found a few solutions like this one: [URL] or this: [URK] Those are using two or four MySQL nodes, two Load Balancers to avoid a single point of failure but only one MySQL cluster management server. What happens if the MySQL cluster management fails?
I have also found a "MySQL Master-Master Circular Replication" technique but from what I read, with this option there is a chance that conflicts will arise if node A and node B both insert an auto-incrementing key on the same table.

I have noticed something: If I use scp to copy a large file from my ssh server, or I use ssh -ND to tunnel a port from my client through my ssh server, my connections show up in /var/log/auth.log on the server, but issuing the "w" or "who" command does not show any of the users who are transferring files via scp or using ssh -ND.
I need to know when my users are logged in (even if they're just using scp or ssh -ND) on my server so that I know when rebooting may disconnect them. The only way I know of to do this is to actually manually read /var/log/auth.log or to do "netstat -an | grep #SSHPORTNUMBER" but I don't like either of these methods. I want to be able to see (as the "w" or "who" command does for normal ssh connections) a list of all logged-in users INCLUDING those logged in using scp or ssh -ND.

It has been haunting me for weeks and I haven't been able to fix it so far: When I installed the wireless driver 43XX series on my laptop using a wired internet, I saw the wireless network for a while and after I rebooted my system, My kernel(31) got corrupted and I got error "kernel Panic (and some sync error)",Thus I started using an older kernel(14),Now When I install wireless driver or mobile broadband driver(wvdial), they get vanished after the reboot and my mobile device modem isn't detected.But they are installed in my system(as shown by synaptic package manager but doesn't seemt to work) I desperately want to use mobile broadband.

Can do nothing with the PC. New install of 10.04 and was prompted to install Nvidia driver. Did so. Rebooted, now have nothing except a thin line at top of screen. How can I remove this driver when I see nothing?

I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.

I'm desperately trying to activate the autoscroll-function in firefox, but firefox just wont let me. When using the "normal" settings dialog, autoscroll is immediatly deactivated again after activating it. Why? In about:config,n't change the value of general.autoscroll. It just seems to be locked in some way.I installed gpointing-device-settings to use my thinkpad-trackpoint and figured it could overwrite the firefox settings in some way

I'm building a HTPC using the minimal ubuntu variant.I've come pretty far, having X11 with Graphic support and Boxee running.The system boots extremely fast (no tweaking everything is default). So fast boxee is up and running before there is networking. The fast boot time is great. But I'd rather have a network connection before boxee is started.I could write a bash script that checks if there is a connection and then launch boxee accordingly.

hey i have this issue but mine happens at anytime i have 4GB of RAM and 3 GhZ AMD 64bit....
but my issue is that it dose it when im not evin on it just at random times???
it will start to hang then it just locks up and i cant do anything?? i have 500GB HDD this should not be a problem i never had this mutch truble with 8.04 on this computer but now this issue is cousing me to loose data that im ether downloading or im doing school work for collage and it just lokes up i wated for 2 hours and it was still locked i had to do a force power off because i thought it was going to catch on fire my CPU was 162F like super hot?

I have set my Ubuntu 10.04 box with our Windows domain. I can see from "net ads info" that I am on the domain. I can also get the password and group info with getent.So far so good. But I have tried to configure pam basically by following this guide:http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/battista...nbind/pam.html
Yet when I try to su or login as an AD user I just get and immediate "Unknown id: <userid>".I have had a look at /var/log/auth.log and there are no errors there.Can anyone provide some tips on debugging the pam configuration?

I am running the Ubuntu Netbook Remix and setting up our systems for Active Directory Domain Authentication. When I am hard wired in (ethernet), AD authentication works with no problems using the Likewise-Open software (installed through Ubuntu Software Center). What I want to be able to do is have people authenticate with AD with only a wireless connection. Has anybody done this before?

After my first installation/ version of Ubuntu 64, I performed a netstat and noticed I did NOT have any Active UNIX domain sockets as I do now. After doing some research, I found this is related to MYSQL and server services which I am in no need of running and nor do I want to run if not needed. So exactly what are these services used for, which app is creating this and why?
Is it possible to remove the app or processes if they are not needed? Killing these connections every time they attempt to establish would be rhetorical.
