Feb 12, 2010I'm new here. This is my first post. Something tells me my problem will be met with great sighs and shrugs of shoulders. I think you may have heard this problem just a few thousand times. couple of days ago i took the plunge and installed Ubuntu 9.10. I already run XP Pro. I have the system set for dual booting until i get to grips with Linux and have all that i use daily from software to hardware comprehesively installed and running. then i have this ideal romantic dream of dumping my microsoft heartache, and living a happy life with the new love in town (an OS that works!)
Vodafone (Huawei K3520) mobile broadband dongle. Yes i know its a touchy subject but i am going cross-eyed reading info on various forums from this one to the betavine forums and a detour through vodafone themselves. I just can't find clear concise info on how to get this dongle up and running with Ubuntu. My laptop is Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi. I would really really appreciate your help on this subject i need to get online with this dongle and Ubuntu.

Feb 16, 2010I've used Ubuntu for almost 3 years now and now I'm forced back in the arms of windows. Unfortunantly the only internet connection thats available here is a 3G modem connection. When I bought the connection a Huawei E122 modem was delivered to me.
When I plug it in it recognizes the modem as it should and it even lets me set it up. But then when I connect, it fails.I have googled around for a couple of days and I've come up empty handed.I really want ubuntu back, and still be able to use the internet.I have a Asus EEE 1008ha laptop and use ubuntu 9.10

with windows you just plug it in and the program and drivers automatically load, the usb modem has a sim card from my wireless provider that has all my details on it so I didnt need to enter a password or any thing

Aug 31, 2010I upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3 and with great disappointment I discovered that my HSPA modem, that worked out of the box under 11.2, work no more. At the first attempt NetworkManager is able to build the connection, I am able to use Yast to download new packages and online updating but at the first use of firefox the internet connection hangs up. Any attempt to disconnecting/reconnceting the usb stick gives the following error in the kernel echo:

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Mobile Broadband HUAWEI E1756C Connect But Do Not Surf ?
Feb 20, 2011I am trying to use the HUAWEI E1756C USB stick to connect to the internet. Installing usb_modeswitch and usb_modeswitch-data allowed networkmanager to "recognize" the stick and set up a mobile broadband connection.
The result is that NM succeeded in connecting (one of every five attempts) but firefox does not surf, nor emails can be downloaded etc. Just like if not being connected. The USB modem shows the steady blue LED as connected.
A NM issue? I have tried disabling NM control and tried with PPP clients like NMTSMON, wvdial and even Sakis3g. All with the same results. They seem to connect and show flux up and downloaded but no surfing.
resolf.conf shows is pretty much empty and no DNS there.
The working settings in Window$ are:
Same settings with Sakis3G, or NMTSMON or NM result in connection with no action from applications that use the internet.
I have had a similar issue with WLAN each time I change to a different network. I solve that by forcing to update the DHCP. I mean using -su dhcpd wlan0
But attempts like dhcpcd ttyUSB0 or dhcpcd ttyS0 get the same result. So no idea if this is an DHCP, or DNS or another issue.

May 17, 2010I am trying to connect to my network. I am dual-booting with windows 7 ultimate and that connects just fine. When I plug in my ethernet cable to the LAN adapter of the motherboard nothing happens. In the network manager it doesn't even acknowledge something has been connected (ie no eth0 or anything). I'm guessing that I don'tave a driver for it installed under linux. The adapter is the Marvell Yukon 8059 (88E8059 I think)

I've spent several hours reading stuff, most of which is way above my head.
I plug it in, set it up in "edit connections". Nothing happens.
It shows up in disk utility twice, as a usb vodaphone storage (huawei) and cd drive (vodafone cd rom)
I switched from puppy to ubuntu because I read that you could just plug dongles into ubuntu and they would be recognized. (Spent many many hours trying to get it working in puppy.)

I am trying to install my three 3G USB dongle in Mandrake it seems to see the dongle in usbview and if I lsusb form the command line. I did see some where that the driver had not been loaded, I have been trying to use setserials to set a virtual serial port to the device but as I am a windows engineer and am not sure of the process and commands need HELP... I have read that the 3G dongle can be used as a serial connection it seems other people have done this on the web, but I need help can anyone explain how to connect to a usb device as a serial ttys*. I must also point out that this dongle has a virtual CD-rom and a built in memory chip which installs the drivers in windows when it is plugged in.. what are the steps to install or shouldI upgrade to a newer version of linux.

Aug 23, 2010I've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition.However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
