Once I have installed F11KDE (and I have), and I have a wireless adapter/booster, how do I configure my internet connection.My laptop doesn't want to pick up the signal.
View 9 Repliesi have successfully installed debian 8 stable, but the USB stick doesn't pick up Globe UMTS signal, i can make a new Mobile Broadband onnection with no problems though..i don't know whats wrong but with my current debian jessie testing PC, i can connect to the USB stick for internet with no problem
i tried installing a guest debian jessie testing with virtual box, but still the USB stick can't pick up the Globe UMTS signal, even if i enable the USB stick in virtual box

For the past few months I've been using Ultimate Edition 2.3 on my laptop. Various problems I encountered convinced me to switch. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 today and after the install I can't pick up my wireless router on the list of available networks. I'm able to pick up every other one on my block, just not my own. My server and my roommates laptop can pick it up and are connected to it, the problem seems to be exclusive to this laptop with the fresh install on it.I tried the 'connect to hidden network' option and it doesn't connect, it just keeps asking for the psk

However, after giving it to an IT teacher at my college, he fixed it, but now the operating system is OpenSuse 11.2 (It was Windows Vista Home Basic before). I have never used OpenSuse, or any Linux before, but everything seemed fine. However, I discovered that I can no longer pick up my wireless internet signal - why is this and what can I do to fix it?! Be aware I am not a computer man, and will not understand complicated technical language.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just loaded 10.10 onto a stock hp pavalion zt3000 and everything is running fine except it won't detect my college's wifi network. It picks up everything else and runs without a hitch. (I'm actually on my work's wireless network atm) The network is not hidden and doesn't have any encryption. The wireless is on and has even detected other networks when it doesn't see the school's. I searched but couldn't find much on this specific problem but Im guessing/hoping its something simple here's the hardware: Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)

I have a WUSB54GC v.1 wireless USB adapter which I use to connect to my home network. For some reason, over time my reception has been getting worse. I'm not sure if this is due to the router or the adapter. In addition, when the signal strength dips below 50%, I can no longer receive email or browse the web. This is only a problem with Ubuntu - when I had WinXP installed, I could access the internet mostly regardless of the signal strength.
I started a year ago with the adapter plugged directly into the computer. After a while I found it necessary to use an extension cord to place the adapter outside my room, closer to the router. A while later it was time for another extension cord, and now my reception has gotten worse again, but I can't extend it any further.
I installed Skype onto my Toshiba Satellite running Karmic last December, and gave it a very successful test run. However, while video still works, and I can receive audio, the microphone does not pick up any sound. I don't think it could be a hardware issue- it worked so recently and my machine has experienced no tramatic events since, but I can't pick up any sound using Sound Recorder either. How could I go about diagnosing and fixing this problem?

I've got a "little" problem with fedora 13: dual head with nouveau is not working. gnome-display-properties recognizes two displays and i can configure it (left, right, mirroring, ...) but first display is always in standby. Seems it doesn't get a signal from graphics controller. Desktop seems to work fine (can move the mouse pointer on the other screen into "the black hole"). I use Fedora 13 x86_64.

I am dualbooting Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and Windows 7 x64. I am using Burg instead of Grub2 since I like the nice graphical display for choosing which OS to boot. Unfortunately, after I turn on the computer from "shutting down" after a Windows session, it automatically chooses Ubuntu and doesn't let me choose Windows. (If I just "restart" after a Windows session, I can choose which OS I want to boot just fine).
After Ubuntu loads, I can restart and *then* I get the option of which OS to choose, but this is extremely frustrating to have to load Ubuntu then reboot just to get Windows. I am not using the OS Prober module (I disabled it, and have a manual entry in my 40_custom file for Windows).
I just got a Motorola Atrix yesterday. Figured I could just use Banshee to manage the device in Ubuntu like I did with my prior IPhone.However, banshee doesn't seem to pick up the device. However, they dont' tell you what file to add it to. I did add those lines to /home/michael/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-001/config.xml which was the only xml file I could find for banshee. However, still doesn't work.
Does anyone have any experience getting the Atrix to work in banshee. Or does anyone know of another manager I would be able to use to manage music and video on Ubuntu. The only official way to do this is to use Windows Media Player or the motorola app both of which are Windows/Mac.
Recently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 on an Acer Aspire 6930 with an nVidia GeForce 9300m GS hooked up to my LG TV via HDMI.I have used the nVidia configuration tool to set the TV as a clone of my desktop and all appears to be working fine except for one thing.When I close my laptop lid, the TV also blanks.I know I could turn off my laptop monitor from within the nVidia config tool, but that is not what I want to do as I still use it; and besides, it's inconvenient to have to do it all the time.

1) Knows it's (the AP's) IP, name, passcode, and operating port,
2) Knows which frequency, and periodic ping-rate to use,
3) And, identifies itself not only appropriately, and timely, but only pings twice before it falls silent, awaiting a response, all others would over run the limit, and thusly fail the AP screening and the AP would totally ignore them, logs the attempts, and stays cold, dark, and silent.
In short, only one (1) device is capable of turning it on.
Seems to me that conceptually, it's quite do-able. Has it been done?
I have installed Centos 5 on my laptop.And I have installed Oracle databases and also VMWARE server 2 software on it.But I see no page opens in firefox browser on this laptop.I can't understand why.The laptop doesn't have internet connection. But the VMWare web access page where we can login to console and create virtual machines doesn't require internet access.I am a newbie to linux and also network issues.How to figure out what is the problem? Are there any step by step guide to investigate this issue?All the pages I open get stuck with "waiting for abc.com" etc.It never opens.Javascript is enabled for this browser.

View 14 Replies View RelatedSince I have 3 Network cards in my Desktop PC I've configured it to act as a Router using GNU/Linux Ubuntu Lucid in combination with Samba so I could share my internet connection. It works on any laptop a connect to it using any of the network cards ports [regardless of the operating system installed on the Laptops], but when I plug that same network cable to any Desktop PC [regardless of the operating System installed] it doesn't even light the LED in the netcards. From the Client PC seems like nothing is plugged in the the netcards.

I've tried installing ndiswrapper, but I keep getting prompted to insert the installation cd for ubuntu's Jaunt Jackalope, which is what I am currently operating. I don't have an installation disk. I installed this version a while ago via usb stick (which I no longer have). Is there any way I can install ndiswrapper without having to use a ubuntu installation disk? I'm hoping installing ndiswrapper will solve my inability to connect wirelessly to the net via either my ethernet card of the new NetGear N100 usb network stick I just purchased.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a WNR3500L wireless router and it works great with Windows. However, when I boot up Ubuntu 11.04, it cannot find other wireless networks in the area. Despite this, my internet connection speed to my computer remains unaffected...the only issue is that it cannot pick up other networks.
From searching on Google and on these forums, I've learned that most routers don't work "out of the box" with Ubuntu...NDISWrapper and additional drivers must be installed in order to make them work to their full potential. But alas, I am a super-newb...I don't know what to do from here on to get my Netgear WNR3500L router to pick up other wireless signals.

When I install F14 on my laptop (Dell D820), Thunderbird doesn't show up when I search, and when I look at the software sources, nothing is checked. The idea is to make the 500's one RAID 1 set and the 2Tb a RAID 1 set. I think the installer is trying to build the RAID set for the OS but the root is looking like a RAID 0 rather than 1. Is there some way to specify?

But can't get the adapter to become active and pick up an IP address. Has anyone done this before? I can't get it to work. My computer also has an internal wireless card, but the signal here is very poor. Supposedly, among windows computers, I would be able to get a flashdrive, and with a little program uploaded from my moms computer, set things up using the flashdrive on my computer to share the internet that she pays good money for =/ However, it wont work with ubuntu, which isnt in the windows inner circle. When I open the executable file with WINE it says that it cant run wireless network setup "on this version of windows". lawl. I was wondering, is there any way around that? Is there anyway to network with my mothers internet?

I installed the appropriate Broadcom drivers. No luck*
* However, when I plugged in a USB Ralink DWL-G122 wireless adapter, this worked and, incredibly, the internal Broadcom BCM4312 started to work (see below). Even more bizarre, after turning the laptop off and unplugging the power, upon reboot with the Ralink adapter plugged in, the NIC was on and I did a yum update through eth0.
Sadly, none of the laptops internal networking works unless the Ralink adapter is plugged in. In fact, the gnome desktop is almost unworkable and unresponsive without the Ralink adapter up. Further, I sure that this was the reason the initial F11 install was frustrating with periodic unresponsiveness.
I've tried installing both F11 386 and x64 and have booted with a F10 live USB with no luck either.
I'm contemplating trying Ubuntu next but really would like to know if someone has been successful with Fedora.
