Fedora Networking :: No Wireless Networks Appearing On Netbook?

Aug 28, 2010

I am just trying Fedora from a USB flash drive on my Toshiba Portege t110 netbook. But it does not seem to detect any wireless networks (although I definitely have a few available -- when I boot up with Win7 it can detect them without issues). I don't know if something is wrong or there are some special steps I need to do to get wireless networks working in Fedora...

Ubuntu Networking :: Use Netbook As A Wireless Router?

Nov 15, 2010

I'm running ubuntu v. 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-22-generic, and it's currently connected to the internet via one of those mobile 3G USB keys (HUAWEI E1550).

The problem is that I tend to run multiple computers concurrently and it would be beneficial if I could have internet access on the lot.

So I was wondering if there's a way that I could use my netbook as a wireless router in order to host a wlan.

Ubuntu Networking :: Install On Samsung N250 Netbook / Test Works By Running From USB Stick First (without Removing Windows 7)?

Jun 28, 2011

am currently using Windows 7 across my networked PCs at home.

I've just received my new Samsung N250 Plus Netbook which comes with Windows 7 Starter (yuk). I read a post on Ebuyer from someone who has installed ubuntu on his N250 so thought I'd give it a go tonight.

My main concern is whether my wi-fi card (Broadcom 802.11n according to windows) will work when I remove windows and install ubuntu. I intend to use the netbook for internet use only while working abroad.

Is it possible to test it works by running ubuntu from my USB stick first (without removing windows 7)?

Ubuntu Networking :: Lenovo S10 Netbook Remix 10.04 Wireless

May 8, 2010

I just installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Lenovo S10 netbook and wireless is not working. I looked on google for some answers and saw that the Broadcom STA driver may be missing so when I tried to install it through Synaptic Package Manager it said that it was already installed. When I click on the wireless icon, it says under wireless that the device is not ready and I can't connect to any wireless networks, even if the SSID is not hidden. I am confused as I already have the driver and all the system updates but it still won't work.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Use The Netbook Wireless Hotspot

May 6, 2011

setting up a netbook's wireless access point (to allow remote connection to a network drive connected to the netbook). I know this sounds daft but there is a reason.I just switched workplace and have all my projects on one drive. However my new workplace's network only assigns ip to certain Mac addresses. So I can't just plug in the network drive. My new work desktop is MS loaded, warranty sticker sealed and shared so I can't change this.Well I will, but not in the first week.

The simplest solution I thought of was to bring in my ubuntu netbook connect this to the network drive and wirelessly connect the netbook to the new desktop this via a wireless USB dongle.I connected the netbook to the network drive with no problem using the wired card. I done this by adding

Code:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.4.1
network 192.168.4.0

[code]....

For the wireless bit, on the netbook, I right clicked on the network indicator icon and selected "Create New Wireless network" then entered a network name and WEP passphase.Over to the desktop (XP). I plugged in a wireless dongle, get it load the driver then selected my new network and entered the passphrase. It came up connected and sure enough I check and it got assigned a sensible IP.

All seemed well and I even connected my android phone with no issues. The phone and desktop can ping each other. However for some reason I can't actually ping or ssh to or from the netbook. So whilst it's happily providing the wireless network it can't use it itself.

p.s. Incidentally I am allowed to plug in USB drives so this isn't an access issue or me trying to sneakily circumvent rules. I even told my IT department about the wireless dongle plan.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Disappeared On Netbook Remix?

May 8, 2011

After installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Toshiba NB505, I hoped the wireless would just work right away, but it didn't. After much searching, I found these instructions (scroll down to High Horse's response at #3), which directed me to download the Realtek Driver RTL8192SE. I followed the directions to a T and everything was working wonderfully, until a recent restart that has taken me back to square one. I think the default Ubuntu drivers may be overriding the drivers I installed and putting everything back to default (no wireless), but I'm not sure. Here's the latest output:

Code:
olamina@ubuntu:~$ sudo su
root@ubuntu:/home/olamina# lshw -C Network

Ubuntu Networking :: Suddenly No Connection Anymore - Connecting Wireless With My Netbook

Feb 14, 2010

I am using UBUNTU 9.04 on a HP mini notebook. I pratically never had problem connecting wireless with my netbook, expecially with this connection at home. Until yesterday. There were some line problems, that have been solved after some hours. Then I was able again to connect.

I didnt do nothing on the netbook. After 2 hours, connection gone. Now, even if other laptops are wonderfully connected (to the same line), mine has a dramatically slow connection (in the sense that is able to open just the first page of google if I am lucky) or no connection at all (even if the signal looks good on the network panel.

I tryed the help for wireless troubleshooting, checked for device recognition. Putting in terminal sudo lshw -C network Says disabled. But the device of the wireless on my pc is on, and it's also enabled in its panel.

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting Wireless To Work On Acer Aspire D260 Netbook

I've just worked out how to get the wireless card working with an Acer Aspire D260 wireless card to work.
Enter terminal command;
sudo apt-get install wifi-radar

Then reboot ubuntu 10.04 after it has installed, network manager should now detect wireless networks in range and allow connection, right click network manager icon and select "Enable Wireless" or "Disable wireless" as required to turn on or off. So many others have had problems getting the wifi to work with Acer Aspire D260 netbooks and ubuntu 10.04.

Ubuntu Networking :: Acer Aspire One D250-1958 W/ AR928X - No Wireless - Netbook Picks Signal - When Provide Key It Fails To Connect

May 13, 2010

I have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.

I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.

I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.
