I am using an eeePC with Xubuntu Lucid and I just configured a wireless network to run with WPA & WPA2 (wireless access point NetGear WG103). It tries to connect and then comes back with a request for reentering the passphrase. I have had this once before in a pub. The way I read this the driver is getting confused how to authenticate.

NM sees the Livebox but simply fails to connect after trying; Wicd says "Bad password".The WPA2 password I have entered is definitely correct, and I have connected without any problem from an AcerOne under Linpus.I have also tried to connect using Wicd and an ethernet cable, and this doesn't connect either, returning "Connection Failed: Unable to Get IP Address"

I am trying to set up a laptop to run it and be a full time media center. so far it works great, I installed xbmc live, but the only issue is I have a wep2 protected wireless router and the wifi does not connect automatically.
I have it set up and am using wpa_supplicant once those commands are run the wifi works great.I am a novice in linux in general, and can not seem to get this to work on startup, can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I haven't been able to find the xbmc start up script if one exists, I figured adding those lines to it might work,does this sound like a reasonable approach? if anyone knows where that is and how it is defined to be launched on start-up i would appreciate it(I guess this is getting into the general Linux knowledge but still good info)
So my university has two wireless servers that students can log into: VCU and VCU SafeNet. The regular VCU server works fine in most areas on campus but the library which I imagine I would be spending most of my time in between classes to do work and such. The connection quality for the unsecured server sucks ass there, and I do not use that term lightly. Other students have found success connecting in the library through the SafeNet server and the tech support man in the library was very nice in helping me setting up the security rules to connect to SafeNet in openSUSE.
However, I lack one little thing that would get me internet connection on crack at the library: GTC authentication for PEAP in WPA2. I did some research and found that GTC has not been implemented in the GUI of KNetworkManager even though it was implemented in NetworkManager. The guide that the tech support man printed out for me was for some earlier version of Ubuntu, so I know NetworkManager has had GTC support for a while now and KNetworkManager is still lacking this. I also found a patch for KNetworkManager, but have had no luck implementing it.
I keep getting a "bad password" error message when trying to connect via wpa_supplicant to a wireless network (Apple Time Capsule WPA/WPA2 mixed).

Is it possible to monitor WiFi connections and identify who are connected through OpenLDAP? If so, how will authentication be possible? By the way, I'm open if OpenLDAP is inappropriate for such authentication purposes and scenario.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIve been using fedora 11 fora few months now and suddenly today after I booted up fedora network authentication(the little icon that lets me choose wifi networks) isnt showing up in the upper right hand corner which isnt that big of a problem but the fact that its on start up applications and its not wondering is what Im wondering about but on top of that my internet doesnt work at all.It will work for a little bit after boot then die and when I go to network authentication and network manager no wifi networks show up and I have about 5 around my house not including my own which is also what ive been wondering.

I'm using Debian 8 with GNOME 32bit. I installed a driver with ndiswrapper for my old D-Link DWL-G650M.
If i using the default network manager to connect with a Free wifi the connection works fine. But if the wifi have the password the connection doesn't work.
I. using my phone Android to create the Router-Wifi like this:

Password: BillyBob
Encryption(the one allowed): WPA2 PSK
With network manager gnome is impossible to connect. I changed in setting the password type with WPA2 but the system doesn't connect.
I tried to connect manually and i updated the file /etc/network/interfaces as the follow:

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter updating to 10.04, I was able to connect easily to my network. However after getting a new router "Linksys WRT610Nv2", I was initially able to set up my wireless "WPA & WPA2 Personal"-encrypted network, but for whatever reason it stopped working completely.
My Asus EeePC 1000H does recognize my network, but its does not want to connect anymore, whatever I try. If I use no encryption, or go wired, everything works well. If I go on other networks everything is ok. I even reinstalled Passwords and Encryption Keys. Other computers (Windows-bad XP and Vista, laptop and desktop [sorry, but working on it to get rid of them!]) have no problems, either wired or wireless connecting with my network. Booting under 9.10, everything works ok as well. In Ubuntu 10.04, going into Network Connections and Edit my network, this is what I see:

I have had my network setup and working with WEP for a long time. Also Windows 7 is working fine from the same laptop. I can't figure out why the essid is scrambled. Here is the output of iwconfig:

After instalation of Suse 11.4, wifi worked totally correctly, until the first restart. Then it ceased to work. It looks like everything is working correctly until WPA authentication.

So the wlan interface authenticates, and then disauthenticates by local choice? a bit about the reason points to wpa_supplicant. Many peoples report that they have multiple copies running, and killing them solves a problem. Sadly I've only one copy, and after being killed it restarts.

Does anyone have a way to use this type of encryption? I have read many posts but have not gotten a solution yet. I am trying to get this to work at a friend's house. I know the SSID and the super-long ascii code (with symbols?). gnome nm and wicd have been useless. I have been connecting to my school's wpa2 using wpa_supplicant + dhclient directly, so I tried adding it in there:

What happens is a string of connects and then immediate disconnects when runnign wpa_supplicant. It says "CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - disconnect event - remove keys" then starts all over. Can't get a stable connection but I must be close?
Well I recentelly read some tutorials about "cracking" wep networks, and seems like it's kind of easy ( I Haven't tried'em out since I don't have my laptop right now, but i'll try them as soon as i get it back )So i'd like to change my network protocol to wpa2, but I REALLY GOT NO IDEA on how to do this.Does someone knows about a tutorial on how to do this?

After installing the ubuntu 10 release I have to say I am really impressed. This is going to be the kids homework machine!I had one challenge during the installation and that was getting wireless networking going. I set up Win XP first (to get the ndis driver and validate connectivity).After installing ubuntu I could not get the adapter (Netgear N300/USB) to connect to our router (D-Link DIR-825) using WPA2 and AES. Finally I got it to work after setting the router to only TKIP encryption. This works ok but causes the adapter to operate at a lower connection speed
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen my router switches off... the wifi signals go off... then why the hell ubuntu keeps on connecting to that very wifi like hell and when doesnt connect shows the prompt to manually connect... with the wifi key already filled in... whats the use of saving the key when it has to ask the question from me either to connect or not?? and if its isnt available... just wait when its available.. and for the prompt,i have only option to cancel(because wifi isnt available at that moment if i select connect it again tries to connect like hell..which it cant) and if i cancel it wont auto-connect when wifi does get available! what the heck?
Windows has this done the right way... when the wifi isnt available.. it dissconnects silently.. and when it becomes available connects silently.. why isnt this been done this way in ubuntu??
Ive attached an image..one can see in the image that it says "authentication required by wireless network" when there isnt any.. as router has gone down!
And the second thing i want to report is that there is no way to report this bug from ubuntu... the launchpad.net talks of going through bug reporting process which is done against a definite package... now how does a user know which package would be causing this error?? there should be a more clear process of reporting such bugs to ubuntu team... which a common man using ubuntu( ubuntu says its most user friendly of all distros right?) can report..
I want to connect my Debian Squeeze machine to my school wireless network with wpa_supplicant.
I think the network uses 802.1X authentication, because when the other students connects to the network for the first time in Windows they enter their username and password then the connection is established. I have asked the the IT staff but they do not known what 802.1X, PEAP EAP etc. is and just say "Enter the login details in the box!".
If I bring a Windows 7 machine to school and successful connects to the network, is it then possible for me to extract the information [and extract a certificate if used on the network] from Windows somehow so i can setup the wpa_supplicant.conf correctly on Debian?
The information I want to extract is which protocols are used, like PEAP,MSCHAP etc.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy college runs a WPA2 LEAP secured wireless network, and I am having problems connecting to it under Ubuntu. I can connect to it just fine under Windows, just not under Ubuntu. Under Ubuntu I can connect to other networks such as my home WEP secured wireless network, so it shouldn't be a hardware or driver issue.
When I do connect to the WPA2 LEAP network it recognizes the network and tries to connect, it pops up the login box for me to enter my username and password, but after I click connect it pops back up again about 10 seconds later. It pops up like this about 3 times total, then after the third time it stops trying to connect and the Wireless Network Disconnected message is shown.
I don't know where to put this, or even what I'm looking for.
I've tried for 6 hours today to get my WPA2 wireless to work as a static IP on my laptop to no avail.
Basically I put things in correctly (at least according to that thread) but I get no interent. When I restart I get the correct IP address but no internet pages will load.
The network monitor I have on my panel shows that it is trying to send and receive information, but I can not get my pages to load.
I'm desperately in need of help, but I really don't know how to even ask for it correctly.

My router is a linksys WRT54GS. My wireless is set up as WPA2-Personal with the "algorithm" as TKIP+AES.
Its like it wants to connect and gives me an IP. But I just don't get any real web data.
I've restarted and tried restarting just the network.
I've got a BCM 4312 card on a Dell laptop running 10.04 and an Apple Airport network. Since I configured the Airport to use "WPA2 Personal" Authentication, my connection is flaky: it drops for no apparent reason and sometimes I can't connect at all. When authentication is turned off, the connection is rock solid.

I currently have an Atheros a5k 802.11g PCI card and I am looking to upgrade to 802.11n. Are there any cards that support the Atheros chipset (a9k) or something similar? I do have PCIe x16 available if I can go with that. Plus, I could go with an external USB 802.11n wireless adapter, but I'd rather prefer the internal card to save space. I don't mind any PCI/PCIe adapters taking up slots in my motherboard, although I might plan to upgrade to an ATX motherboard so I can have more slots available.
