Ubuntu Networking :: 802.11n PCI Card With Hostapd And WPA2 Support?

I currently have an Atheros a5k 802.11g PCI card and I am looking to upgrade to 802.11n. Are there any cards that support the Atheros chipset (a9k) or something similar? I do have PCIe x16 available if I can go with that. Plus, I could go with an external USB 802.11n wireless adapter, but I'd rather prefer the internal card to save space. I don't mind any PCI/PCIe adapters taking up slots in my motherboard, although I might plan to upgrade to an ATX motherboard so I can have more slots available.

I know WEP is frowned upon and enverone should be using WPA. And my hostapd AP is working with WPA clients. However, I would like to alow some older clients that can only "talk" WEP to connect. All my attempts so far have failed! Can anyone point me in the right direction? The hostapd.conf file comments suggests that hostapd can support WEP. There are no contraindications or flags that I can find in the defconfig file that suggest that a WEP module needs to be complied-in to the final make.

After installing Lucid, I noticed that my Ralink RT2860 card would not connect to my home network using WPA2 despite the network being visible and of good strength. So I followed the guide at [url] in order to install the newest Ralink drivers.
After installation, same issue. That is, the card will connect to my a/b/g/n network if I leave it unprotected, but it will not connect to the same network if switch it to WPA2. After being given the passphrase, the wireless icon on the indicator applet shows that it is trying to connect, but after awhile it fails. Does anyone know why the built-in driver and also the official Ralink driver are no good for WPA2 in Ubuntu 10.4 for my RT2860 card?

I've got a Toshiba Satellite L25-S199, and it includes an Atheros wireless NIC based on the AR2413 chipset, I believe. Currently I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 on it, but I've previously had Xubuntu and Ubuntu, and this problem has always existed with WPA2.
Specifically, the LAN is a wireless WPA2 with AES encryption (no TKIP). The computer can connect to the network just fine, but the web is all but unusable; it is very finicky, mostly failing to fetch any pages, but sometimes succeeding (mostly with Google pages, and those from the local network's servers). Perhaps a DNS issue?
This problem doesn't occur with WEP or no encryption.

I use an Atheros AR922X wireless card in my router/access point and everything was working fine under maverick. Now when I try and start hostapd I get this:

I run the following command on my terminal to start hostapd which sets up my router to behave like a wireless access point. $ ./hostapd -dd hostapd.conf The service starts successfully. But now i am trying to figure out a way to run this program automatically at start up so that my access point is permanently visible.

I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

I've been running hostapd for a while in 11g mode with great success. Having upgraded the router machine to maverick today, I had a poke at getting hostapd working in 11n mode without too much fuss. From cursory reading of old forum posts, this appears to now be built in functionality without needing to compile drivers or hostapd from source - this is borne out by a few 11n-related lines in the default configuration file.
When adding those two lines to my config file, though, I get the same error message I did a few years ago when trying this out for the first time:

I'm running WiFi AP (hostapd/nl80211) and STA (Wicd) in my home net. More or less all does work fine at last. The only problem I have - STA reconnection works few times only (1-4 times), ending with unsuccessful authentification (and multiple AP probing in hostapd debug output before STA failing).Two contradictive facts take place:
1. Reloading hostapd on the AP side permits Wicd to reconnect, while STA rebooting(!) doesn't help.
2. Another STA - my son's Nokia mobile phone (don't know a model) - reconnects with this AP without problems (we have tried 10 times).
So, you see, first fact says something wrong with AP, while the second one says something wrong with STA. Or you can treat these facts in strictly opposite way Indeed WiFi under Linux is very fragile area yet. I have found plenty of close-to-be-similar reports as well as different resolving ways (but it is rare case).OK, few words about setup. Up to date Kubuntu Maverick testing with backports enabled on both sides. ASUS USB-N11 adapters are in use on both sides. It means RT2870 chip.

I try to set-up an Access point using ubuntu 11.04. I am using the minimal configuration file from [URL] together with a TP-Link TL-WN422G (Atheros chipset). I've installed the linux-backports-net-natty-generic drivers. But when trying to start hostapd I always get this output:

I have setup hostapd and a bridged setup with br0 bridging eth0 and wlan0. The setup works but unfortunately not on bootup. The reason is that the bridge can't add iface wlan0 because it is down for some reason at this time. I have a small intel Atom based computer that acts as a 'combo' firewall / router / server / 802.11 Access Point that services my end user needs. I'm using hostapd 0.7.0 and Fedora 12 x86_64. The system works fine on Fedora 11. I decided to upgrade to Fedora 12 last night, and completely broke my wireless. Note that configurations are _identical_ between the Fedora 11 and Fedora 12 installation. Though, I did recompile the hostapd binary under Fedora 12 libs, etc.
Anyway, Client #1 associates fine. Client #2 associates, and hostapd hangs. Strace'ing the process shows nothing... just.. dead. SIGTERM works, but hostapd is unable to 'unallocate' the wlan0 interface, which appears to be in a hung state, so I can't simply re-start hostapd. So, I have to remove wlan0 from my bridge, them rmmod ath9k, modprobe ath9k, re-add wlan0 into the bridge, restart hostapd.. But the second association consistently hangs it every time. Next, I went and downloaded the latest compat-wireless drivers as of this posting. Selected the ath9k driver, built the modules, replaced them in my /lib/modules tree, depmod'd, reboot, etc..
BIG difference. Now hostapd does not hang, and there appears to be better logging/debug than ever before. This made me happy. Unfortunately, there appears to be a new problem. Clients can now associate, but only for a split second. They are immediately disconnected, and the following message appears via hostapd's stdout logging: hostapd: wlan0: STA 00:21:5c:39:a3:99 IEEE 802.11: did not acknowledge authentication response
For every client that attempts connection. Note that I'm using WPA2-EAP-PEAP w/ MSCHAPv2. I've also, for kicks, just tried regular WPA2-PSK with similar results. I'm using a mixture of clients, Windows XP, Windows 7, Linux Ubuntu, Fedora, and others.

After updating to 10.04, I was able to connect easily to my network. However after getting a new router "Linksys WRT610Nv2", I was initially able to set up my wireless "WPA & WPA2 Personal"-encrypted network, but for whatever reason it stopped working completely.
My Asus EeePC 1000H does recognize my network, but its does not want to connect anymore, whatever I try. If I use no encryption, or go wired, everything works well. If I go on other networks everything is ok. I even reinstalled Passwords and Encryption Keys. Other computers (Windows-bad XP and Vista, laptop and desktop [sorry, but working on it to get rid of them!]) have no problems, either wired or wireless connecting with my network. Booting under 9.10, everything works ok as well. In Ubuntu 10.04, going into Network Connections and Edit my network, this is what I see:

Does anyone have a way to use this type of encryption? I have read many posts but have not gotten a solution yet. I am trying to get this to work at a friend's house. I know the SSID and the super-long ascii code (with symbols?). gnome nm and wicd have been useless. I have been connecting to my school's wpa2 using wpa_supplicant + dhclient directly, so I tried adding it in there:

What happens is a string of connects and then immediate disconnects when runnign wpa_supplicant. It says "CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - disconnect event - remove keys" then starts all over. Can't get a stable connection but I must be close?

Well I recentelly read some tutorials about "cracking" wep networks, and seems like it's kind of easy ( I Haven't tried'em out since I don't have my laptop right now, but i'll try them as soon as i get it back )So i'd like to change my network protocol to wpa2, but I REALLY GOT NO IDEA on how to do this.Does someone knows about a tutorial on how to do this?

First, I've dinked around with Linux b4 but never really considered it for an everyday desktop machine. After installing the ubuntu 10 release I have to say I am really impressed. This is going to be the kids homework machine!I had one challenge during the installation and that was getting wireless networking going. I set up Win XP first (to get the ndis driver and validate connectivity).After installing ubuntu I could not get the adapter (Netgear N300/USB) to connect to our router (D-Link DIR-825) using WPA2 and AES. Finally I got it to work after setting the router to only TKIP encryption. This works ok but causes the adapter to operate at a lower connection speed

My college runs a WPA2 LEAP secured wireless network, and I am having problems connecting to it under Ubuntu. I can connect to it just fine under Windows, just not under Ubuntu. Under Ubuntu I can connect to other networks such as my home WEP secured wireless network, so it shouldn't be a hardware or driver issue.
When I do connect to the WPA2 LEAP network it recognizes the network and tries to connect, it pops up the login box for me to enter my username and password, but after I click connect it pops back up again about 10 seconds later. It pops up like this about 3 times total, then after the third time it stops trying to connect and the Wireless Network Disconnected message is shown.

I don't know where to put this, or even what I'm looking for.
I've tried for 6 hours today to get my WPA2 wireless to work as a static IP on my laptop to no avail.
Basically I put things in correctly (at least according to that thread) but I get no interent. When I restart I get the correct IP address but no internet pages will load.
The network monitor I have on my panel shows that it is trying to send and receive information, but I can not get my pages to load.
I'm desperately in need of help, but I really don't know how to even ask for it correctly.
But to start here is my interfaces file (one config of about 15 I've tried).

I've got a BCM 4312 card on a Dell laptop running 10.04 and an Apple Airport network. Since I configured the Airport to use "WPA2 Personal" Authentication, my connection is flaky: it drops for no apparent reason and sometimes I can't connect at all. When authentication is turned off, the connection is rock solid.

I have a Intel WIreless 3945 card, wit ipw3945 installed on Dell E1505. I use NetworkManager to function and everything is ok. I can connect to wireless networks that have no security, or WEP security, but I just can't connect to networks with WPA or WPA2 securty. What can be my malfunction?

I am using an eeePC with Xubuntu Lucid and I just configured a wireless network to run with WPA & WPA2 (wireless access point NetGear WG103). It tries to connect and then comes back with a request for reentering the passphrase. I have had this once before in a pub. The way I read this the driver is getting confused how to authenticate.

Unsecured and WEP networks are fine. I do not have a WPA network to test on, but my school's WPA2 Eduroam network does not work. It tries to connect before asking again for my credentials, and this repeats. I'm on 64-bit 10.10 Ubuntu upgraded from a live CD install of 10.04. Laptop model is Acer Aspire 5741-5193. I've recently installed Lucid Lynx 10.04 on my Dell Studio which uses an internal BCM4315 wi-fi card to connect to the internet. I was hoping it would work upon the install, but deep down I knew I'd have to tweak it a little bit to get it up and running the way I wanted. The card was instantly recognized but, at first, wasn't detecting wireless networks. This was quickly and painlessly fixed using System > Administration > Hardware Drivers, which I used to install Broadcom B43 wireless driver (b43-fwcutter). I rebooted and could not detect the local wireless networks.
I entered my password to my home network (correctly, I quadruple checked) but, unfortunately, it continuously tries to connect to the network with no successful. Occasionally I'm prompted to re-entered the password and the process repeats. The network I'm trying to connect to is a WPA/WPA2 network which I've heard to be troublesome. I haven't yet tried connecting to a WEP network but I'm fairly certain it will work and I will get back to this post when I test it in a few hours.
I'm curious if this question has been answered or if the problem has been solved and I just simply don't have the google skills to find it.
