I booted ubuntu at startup and then tried to go online, but it says my wireless device is disabled. I tried pressing the keys on my keyboard to see if that may work, but it doesn't. View 1 Replies View RelatedI started on ubuntu 8.10 and my wireless card has always worked,Since i did a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 it still seems to work to a point.I can see networks, click them and use a password to connect but it never seems to carry on, I typed the password correctly and after a minute it asks for it again.I have read a post about problems other people are having and that i need to install a different program.But i cant install another program if there is no wireless as apt-get doesn't work without internet connection.So... I need to download something that will fix it (possible update if one has been released) to xp (partition) then access xp partition from ubuntu and install it.

My suspect was the driver was 2.6.35.1 kernel based i may need to update my kernel, but i have other laptop having 2.6.32-21 kernel and this card works fine.
I recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).
All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.
The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?
The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.

I am running the latest version of arch linux on a Dell Latitude D420. So far everything has worked perfectly except the wireless. It seems that Arch does not even detect the wireless because ifconfig -a only gives me the loopback and eth0. I installed ndiswrapper as well as the drivers. lsmod | grep ndiswrapper shows that ndiswrapper is being loaded on boot. I tried to install the iwp3945 drivers, but they have become obsolete so pacman was unable to find them. I also tried installing the iwl3945 drivers as explained here [URL] but still no luck.

Ubuntu 10.04 does not detect the Integrated WLAN card/adapter. I've looked at all the forums/posts but none had the issue I have. When I type lspci into the terminal i get this back:

View 2 Replies View Related1. If you are on a laptop check that the network function key is turned on. Mine is on F12 and has a bluish light for ON and reddish light for OFF.
2. Go to System > Administration > Users and Groups > Advanced Settings > User Privileges Check you have relevant permissions for Connecting to Wireless Networks and the Internet. (Also turned my audio on here after much trial)
I discovered these after spending hours following up suggestions on these forums. They might not solve everyone's problems but they will hopefully save some of you from fruitless searching

I have searched and have not found anything specific to my issue. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome.Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant

I have Dell 1537 laptop having Intel 5100 wireless card. It is not supported by Fedora 9. I have tried downloading the driver iwlwifi-5000-ucode-8.24.2.12.tgz from URL...Downloads and copied it to folder /lib/firmware and rebooted the machine. But still it is not detected by the system. I am not exactly sure whats wrong here, but Ubuntu 11.04 reports that the Atheros card for my laptop ( AR9287) is disabled. When I try to turn it on using fn+F3 it does not do anything. I looked around and found out about RF-Kill, tried doing the sudo rfkill unblock 0 and it did not work, I attempted that with both 1 and 0 as I also have a gigabit lan card. Though I could see the block status of the eth0 card changing, the Soft block of the wireless card did not.
I have also tried unblocking the pci_ath card in modprobe.d and that also did not work after restarting.
I am using a Acer Aspire 7551g with a Atheros wireless controller. Running Ubuntu 11.04 x64 AMD
I cannot seem to enable my wireless connection in 9.10. I know that the connection WAS WORKING maybe a month or so ago. However, 99% of the time I am wired.I am using a BCM4312 It shows up in lspci The drivers are loaded (wl, lib80211 and lib80211_crypt_tkip) If I look at System->Administration->Hardware Drivers the Broadcom STA driver is active. dmesg says that the interface is eth1 but then moves it to eth2 If I click on the network icon in the panel I have options for connecting to eth0 (wired lan which works fine) but under "Wireless Networks" it says "Wireless is disabled" in gray.
