i installed Ubuntu 11.04 Amd64 today (and have tried ubuntu 10.10 in the past and had the exact same issue.).I had this problem with the wifi, as it recognizes the adaptor (tplink321g) but it cant connect to the right speed. This is my only problem with ubuntu now.If anybody else is having the same issue, and most of all if anybody has the solution to it.
View 9 RepliesAfter updating to kubuntu 11.04 natty, I have a problem with my internet-connection. The problem happens when I use VoIP-Software like Skype or Twinkle and also when using ktorrent.
When using the mentioned software, after 30-90 seconds the internet gets very slow. In f.e. skype, I can hear the one I phoned very badly.
I use kubuntu on a desktop-PC with a Linksys USB-Wlan-Stick. Detailed information is below.

My wireless seems to be fast for a good 30secs then bang takes good while to load the next page almost as if it's disconnecting and then reconnecting/scanning reconnecting. Why cant it stay connected. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (both 64-bit) and my USB WiFi adapter which previously worked fine stopped working. The adapter is a Hama USB stick based on the Ralink rt73 chipset. I've tried using the Ralink drivers that come with 10.04 (both rt2800usb and rt73usb) but neither work. When I use rt2800usb, the adapter is recognized as interface wlan0, however I can't see any wireless networks. When I use rt73usb (and blacklist rt2800usb to avoid conflicts) I no longer have a wlan0 interface and there is no wireless adapter shown in the network manager. I've pasted in the results of lsmod, lsusb, and ifconfig -a (with MAC addresses removed) below.

I've just installed the ubuntu 9.10. I have one problem with it. I have a home net in configuration: Windows XP on a cable, Ubuntu on a cable and Windows on wifi. When I'm surfing on the net on Ubuntu, Wifi isn't work how it should. It's very slow and I don't know what to do with it. Windows XP on a cable is OK, it works good. I have tried the two available networks on my university campus and both of them are very slow with 10.04. I'm not having problems with Windows 7 running on these networks. Although, the wired network works perfectly fine, with normal speeds. I've looked around for help but I could not find anything specific to this problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was introduced to Ubuntu about a year ago and recently decided to come back to using the OS. I now dual boot it with Windows XP Home. My former setup was with Wubi but now I have it installed on an actual partition. (The Wubi install, for whatever reason, had little internet problems.) I use wireless internet, and though my network card was recognized out of the box and can connect to my network, the Internet is very slow. It takes almost a minute to look up Google. Also, Firefox will often report that it cannot find the server for whatever website I try to look up, after trying to connect to it/look it up. I also cannot access the web configuration page for my router. (192.168.1.1). The network app reports that I often have a signal strength of 40% or lower. The following is my hardware/internet:

I am the only Linux computer on my network. (There is no encryption on my network. I know there should be. but my parents are not very computer literate and they are the ones who have access to the network. It is easier just to go without.)
I have tried disabling ipv6, setting custom DNS server names under ipv4, and setting the wlan rate (or something similar) to 1492. Nothing works. This does not seem to be a network problem because my internet works fine in Windows, and I can access the configuration page for my router to change channels, PPP, etc..
I have 1 router 2 pcs. We had to move one pc away from the router so I bought a wifi card. Everything went fine, the card works and I have internet but the network is incredible slow.

I tried all of them, and none reliably worked. Every solution which required re-association wtih the AP helped for some time, but nothing helped for long. First, don't let yourself fool by the disable IPv6 trap - while it is "enabled" it is acutally not used by Lucid! I have a clean install of Kubuntu 10.04 on an AMD64 Laptop with Broadcom STA driver: 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 03) However I can reliably stabilize my connection for some time either by manually disabling WiFi with the hardware switch or disabling WiFi by software means and re-activating. This brings speed at par with Kubuntu 9.10 until some time. Can anybody confirm this behaviour?
I have a strange problem that I cannot diagnose -- slow wifi. About two or three weeks ago, I noticed that my wifi began to slow down dramatically. The problem is the same on my ubuntu laptop and my ipad. But when I connect directly to the router with a network cable, my connection is fine. So it is definitely a problem with the wifi signal itself.
What I have done so far:
(1) I checked all of the MAC addresses connected to my wifi. I identified my tivo box, laptop, and ipad. Nothing else.
(2) I used [I]wifi analyzer[I] on my android phone and selected an unused wifi channel (channel 8).
(3) I changed the username/password on my wifi signal. I also changed the password for my router's admin privileges.
(4) I restarted my router and computer.
None of this helped.
I am using a Netgear WGR614 wireless router.
I am succesfully installed a Dell wireless card with Broadcom 4328 shipset using ndiswrapper and rpm sources on Fedora 12 2.6.32.14-127.fc12.i686.PAE. Now I am using original Win drivers but the wifi conection is very slow and unstable.
The wifi card runs perfectly on win 7.

CentOS 5.2. I have D-Link WUA-1340 wireless USB adapter that uses the rt73usb driver / module. At least I worked in Fedora 9 out of the box with that driver / module. I assume the Fedora 9 kernel supported it.
I really do not want to try and add a custom kernel to my instalation but I am wondering how I can get this to work on centOS 5.2.
I know first step is to get the adapter to be recognized by the system kernel. I think I can configure the network after that.
My laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter.The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device?This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

Installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot with win7 yesterday. Everything working but Wifi. Wifi works fine with Win7. No Wifi in Ubuntu. Very confused. I have info from the wifi trouble ticket post.There does not seem to be a driver for this card anywhere.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have search the web quite a while about issues with the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card. It seems plenty of people have trouble (or at least have had trouble) with it. I do have a working connection, device seems recognized etc, but it works only at a very low/annoying speed.I'm running Wheezy backports and I have firmware-iwlwifi ver 0.43 installed (from Debian testing).

I'm not sure why modinfo iwlwifi only lists firmware iwlwifi-7260-7.ucude while in dmesg you see iwlwifi-7260-9.ucude loads.
I've noticed that my wifi connection is significantly slower than my wired connection. Obviously wired is always faster, but when I boot in to windoze or use Mac, the difference between wired and wifi is negligible. I'm running Debian 8 testing on a Lenovo X201 with Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak] network card.

Using openSUSE11.3 Linux 2.6.34.7-0.5-default i686 with kde 4.4.4 release 3.Problem is the wait of sometimes over 2 minutes before the wifi connection is available.Two questions:-
1. Why does it take so long? Longer by far than it to be with previous openSUSE releases. Much longer than with that other OS!!!2. How do I remove the wallet process. I have a pc which has 2 network cards, 1 wifi and 1 ethernet card.
I'm using wifi card to connect to wifi network (internet) and i'm planing to share this wifi/internet connection via ethernet to wireless router (siemens sx763) so i can have internet on my other devices, e.g. mobile phone, laptop.
I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

I had been using a wireless router, but I gave it away I can use Mac OS X to share an ethernet connection over wifi, but this is _very_ un-configurable. You get two options only, WEP and a key-length. So, I would like to install someway to make this wireless connection more configurable.
