Ubuntu Networking :: Using A Driver From 9.10 On 10.4?
Jun 3, 2010
I've recently installed the new LTS, but my wireless doesn't work on it. Since my adaptor works on my machine under 9.10, I can only assume this is down to a lack of driver for my adaptor within 10.04.
Would it be feasible to find the driver within the 9.10 system for my adaptor and install it onto my 10.04 system? If it is, fantastic! How would I go about doing such a thing?
It has been haunting me for weeks and I haven't been able to fix it so far: When I installed the wireless driver 43XX series on my laptop using a wired internet, I saw the wireless network for a while and after I rebooted my system, My kernel(31) got corrupted and I got error "kernel Panic (and some sync error)",Thus I started using an older kernel(14),Now When I install wireless driver or mobile broadband driver(wvdial), they get vanished after the reboot and my mobile device modem isn't detected. But they are installed in my system(as shown by synaptic package manager but doesn't seemt to work) I desperately want to use mobile broadband.
How To: Uninstall/Remove Old Wireless Driver to make way for New Driver (RTL8191SE)?
Here's the new driver:
I have been having trouble with my wireless connection intermittently disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly (sometimes every couple of seconds). I posted a thread about this here on Ubuntu Forums titled: Ubuntu 10.45 & NetworkManager Applet 8.0: Connects & Disconnects Frequently.
I have Centos5.4 loaded on a late 2008 MACBOOK Pro and would like to get wireless working. I've attempted to download the broadcom driver and create a driver module with no luck.
i had a suffer installing broadcom b43 or the brodcom STA driver i ended with STA in Hardware drivers i installed it and it's activated but not in use and i still have no wireless connection i'm on ubuntu 9.10
It's my first time trying out a Linux and everything is going great except for my networking. I just recently purchased a wireless usb adapter 802.11n and I tried to install the driver from the cd it came with, but when I read the readme file it said it only supports up to kernel versions 2.6.18 ~ 2.6.29. Since I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 my kernel type is 2.6.32.25. Does anyone know if there are any updated versions of similar drivers online? or do I have to return this wireless adapter and get a different one?
I have a Realtek nic in my laptop. When i look at additional drivers it says the driver is active but not in use. How do i make it use this driver and always use this driver?
Im using HP mini with Broadcom wireless chipset. Currently STA drivers are installed and working, however i want to install alternative wireless driver (b43-fwcutter) to be able to enter monitor mode (which this driver is capable of) for using it in wireshark and kismet.
Now, jockey-gtk isn't listing it although i installed it using 'sudo apt-get install b43-ffwcutter'. Why is that?
here is the output of sudo jockey-gtk -l kmod:wl - Broadcom STA wireless driver (Proprietary, Enabled, In use)
i also tried sudo jockey-gtk -u (for updating driver databse but got same query)
I have a Netgear WNA-1000 that I can't get recognized on any of my Ubuntu boxes (8.10, 9.04, 9.10). This page says that it should work with the ar9170usb driver, and that this driver is already part of the mainline Linux kernel as of 2.6.30. It also noted that ar9170usb does not claim this device's USB-ID at this time.
How do I (a) get this driver to recognize and work with my WNA-1000 under 9.10?
(b) get this driver installed and working under the older versions of Ubuntu that I also have?
I used the System -> Administration -> Hardware Driver and found 2 drivers. I have tried them both to connect to my D-Link Router. Neither of which worked.
For Broadcom B43 Driver, the wireless is able to detect wireless networks. However, it fails to establish connection.
For Broadcom STA Driver, the wireless cannot even detect wireless networks available.
What is the issue here and how do I resolve it so that I am able to connect onto the internet wirelessly?
I have bean trying to uzip and install the ndiswrappper driver for my Atheros AR5212/AR5213, well first I can not finde the driver on line, secondly I have tried to unzip the driver from the CD that came with Atheros AR5212/5213 that did not work "WDA2320.exe"plus the ndiswrapper help files are not explanatory enough for the different scenarios, thirdly I installed the ndiswrapper interface that installs on the desk top, that worked for a while then stopped altogether, I have bean working on this ,on and off for about a year,my O/S is Debian Lenny Betta -2- i386 I have attached a document coled Atheros doc pertaining to the hard ware in my P/C
I'm having problems with (no surprise) my Broadcom BCM4322 Network Adapter after a clean install of 9.10. I am just about tearing my hair out.
1. I downloaded Broadcom's provided Linux drivers. No joy.
2. I installed first the STA package, then b43-fwcutter. No joy.
3. I installed NDISwrapper, but cannot find the .inf file I need. Anyone? I dual boot with Vista, so I went into my Windows system and pulled a .inf file from the driver files there (bcmwl6.inf), but NDISwrapper said it was not valid. I have looked all over the web for a .inf driver file for this chipset but cannot seem to find anything (all I can find is .exe files).
I have the source code to create a wireless driver. This came with the cd for my adapter but i dont know what to do. btw while i'm in ubuntu i will not have a wired conection to the net seeing as my routers down stairs and i dont have a cable long enough to reach
Need to install b43 driver to use monitor mode on my card - versions are compatible, I ran Code: sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter As told, but instructions end there. Pressed yes to download and extract firmware. Do I need to activate this driver somehow?
Info on wireless card: Code: tnt@Artemis:~$ lspci -vnn | grep 14e4 0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01) Broadcom STA driver is activated in the hardware drivers manager.
Basically today (1st of june) about 1.30pm my computer updated. I was on facebook at the time and was commenting on a post but didn't click "Send message". My computer went onto screensaver, So I unlocked my computer to find my keyboard wasn't working (But it was ok on the password lock). I then thought that restarting my computer might help the keyboard to work. I restarted my computer and as it turned on, my wireless icon had an exclamation mark next to it ("!") I clicked on the icon to find that only "Wired network" was only displayed, Before the restart "Wireless network" was there but it had disappeared. I've looked into it, and it looks like my wireless driver has been unistalled by the most recent update on Ubuntu. As far as I remember the wireless driver was Broadcom for a hp pavillion zd8000.
I did a few things to the drivers and the wireless aspect of my ubuntu system and I'd like to know how would I reset everything back to as if it was a fresh install (but only regarding my wireless drivers and all that jazz)?
I'll have to purge it and then reinstall it over a wired network.
im on compaq presario cq40 (amd64 turion x2) and recently install ubuntu.10.04 using wubi with dual os.. im installed wireless braodcom BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY 'bcm43xx-fwcutter_006-3_amd64.deb' driver for my laptop and restart my machine.. when i go to > hardware dirver, there is no driver installed.. any suggestion? or lists any driver compatible with my laptop..
I downloaded my linux wireless driver (realtek 8191se), but I don't know how to install it because there is no .exe file(like windows). It has a readme file which says :
"You can enter top-level directory of driver and execute follwing command to Compile, Installation, or uninstall the driver:
0. Change to Super User sudo su
1. Compile driver from the source code make
2. Install the driver to the kernel make install reboot"
as the majority of ubuntu 10.04 users I had problems with setting up wireless internet connection too. After reading many forum topics I somehow managed to set up the connection. Now the only problem is that when I restart computer wireless connection is no longer working. Each time I boot Ubuntu I have to go to System>Administration>Hardware Drivers, remove Broadcom STA wireless driver and then install it again. Otherwise the wireless connection is not working and under Broadcom STA wireless driver this message is written:
I am using Ubuntu 10.04. I installed the Broadcom STA Wireless driver from System -> Administration ->Hardware Drivers, and it seemed to work fine, but the next time I turned on my laptop, my wireless card wasn't recognized anymore! When I went to System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers, the driver was gone from the list! Where did it go?Update - Solution:his is hardware issue, not a b43 issue.
I'm going round in circles with this as I'm just not very good at using the command line in Ubuntu. I've bought an Edimax EW-7811Un nano USB wifi adapter, and I'm really cheesed off at the moment because I can't get it to work on my laptop. I've got Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I really want this tiny dongle to work with my computer. Ubuntu is much fats than Windows, and I use it all the time, but my current wifi donlge is an old big monstrosity!
After trying to make audio output work on Lenovo b560 notebook I finally succeeded but the wireless stopped working. The driver was removed. I tried to follow the instructions from Broadcom http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt and it started showing the driver in admin - drivers, it shows that it is activated but not in use, but once I get to this point
"modprobe wl" it shows this: install /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install wl insmod /lib/modules/2.6.32-25-generic-pae/updates/dkms/wl.ko FATAL: Error inserting wl (/lib/modules/2.6.32-25-generic-pae/updates/dkms/wl.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
I have a question about applying the patch found here: [URL]. I'm running 10.04 LTS x64 and I have 2 Znyx Quad Port PCI nics that are recognized but when I try to increase the MTU to anything over 1500, I receive an error. I searched online and I found this patch but I don't know how to apply it.
My wifi adpater (built into HP laptop) is a intel wifi link 1000 series (b/g/n I think). Looking at some other resources it seems iwlwifi driver is the recommended driver for this card? however it is currently using iwlang. I am constantly experiencing dropped connections with my belkin g router and I am wondering if changing the wireless adapter driver might help, even if it doesn't what is the best driver for this card?
I downloaded ubuntu on my wireless netbook my wireless network connection was not working so i checked on terminal and it said it was unclaimed meaning that ubuntu is not recognizing my built in wireless driver (hardware) what should i do becayse ubuntu could also not find the ndiswrapper?
I've got a linux driver for by Broadcom 802.11 wireless card which I downloaded from the broadcom website. It's in a tar.gz format and I have NO idea what to do with that. My ubuntu machine has no internet access at all so none of the solutions I'v been able to find that deal with these broadcom drivers will work for me (because they all seem to require internet).
So, maybe someone could point me to a walkthrough for intalling a driver that is in tar.gz?
trying to get my little Encore USB wireless adapter to work on several flavors of Linux (Ubuntu 10,10, ElementOS, Xubuntu, and Puppy), I emailed tech support at Realtek. I asked where is the Linux driver for this product? I did this because there were no Linux drivers posted on their site and everyone here (and on Newegg) is jumping though hoops trying to get a working wireless connection with the Encore and similar dongles that use the RT8187b chipset. I didn't expect an answer, but felt better after my little vent. I get an email from Realtek with a driver. Realtek needs to promote Jerry -- a beacon of customer service in the age of the "get lost" school of customer relations. I have attached the driver below. Caveat: I have not yet compiled the driver, so I don't know much more about it than I've said already, although the archive appears to contain the source code.
