I've installed from the CD the Centos version 5.5. When I try to connect to Internet I can't because I received some errors. I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. When I change to "eth0 (Intel EtherExpress/100 driver)...sometimes become "Active" an other times said that the MAC address is different or to check the cable because can't find the IP. What can I do?

So far, I have not been able to make it work. As far as I know, what I am trying to do is called network bridging. The method I have been trying so far is to run these commands as root:

I have an ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard with an integrated Atheros AR8121/AR8113 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.I installed Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid" 64bit Kernel version 2.6.32.21 I have read that the driver isn't in the kernel, but there's a strange thing :
First if I try to run lspci from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Second If I try to run lshw -C network from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Third if I run ifconfig it only returns my loopback address.
Can I suppose that my Ethernet Intel Gigabit Controller is broken or that Atheros driver is missing?

I have an Asrock A330GC, with onboard ethernet, and an Engenius PCI card for wifi.I installed ubuntu server 9.10 no problems, and it picked up my ethernet in the installation with no difficulties.I couldn't get 9.10 to do what i wanted, so I tried installing 8.4 instead. This however didn't pick up any of the drivers, so i couldn't get online.So i reinstalled 9.10, only to find that no couldn't find network in the installation.Absolutely NOTHING has changed, the ethernet cable still plugged in, and if i plug same cable into my laptop, it works fine.Any ideas people?ifconfig doesn't mention any eth0, just lo, with an ip of 127.0.0.1 and amask of 255.0.0.0 which i'm fairly certain means its dead

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my Broadcom 4312 card with an Intel Centrino 6200-N card. The install went fine (dmesg | grep iwl shows that it's physically installed) and the result of "rfkill list" is:

I downloaded the most recent drivers from Intel for the 6200 and extracted the tar. I opened the .deb file: linux-headers-2.6.33-02063304-generic_2.6.33-02063304_i386.deb and it started a Package Installer. In that process an error occurred "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: linux-headers-2.6.33-02063304." I've searched but could not find a fix for this error. I am using 10.4 and obviously my wireless is not working (but Wicd wireless is enabled).
Tell me how to configure my Ethernet card to work. My pc only works wirelessly. I don't know what kind of Ethernet card is installed. I have Ubuntu 10.4 on a dell pc 1ghz, 20ghd, 512mb.

I have been trying for a couple weeks now different techniques to get my wired ethernet connection working properly. I have a seeming common issue with my e100 driver dropping connection and having hard time picking it back up sometimes. I want to purchase a relatively inexpensive Ethernet card whose generic Linux driver actually operates it CORRECTLY, open up comp and put it in, and update to 9.10. Any list of Ethernet cards that are know to work flawlessly on Ubuntu, or at least tell me which card YOU are using that works perfect without having to write code, install wrapper programs, etc...?

But it works if i boot windows first and restart back into UBUNTU. Which means i have to boot windows first to make ethernet work on UBUNTU every time i start my PC.

It tells me there is no wired connection, when there is. I used sysinfo and its not showing any network adapter or controller. I have a board with nvidia nforce go 430, could it be a driver issue. It works fine in windows though. Tried using a wireless adapter and all is working. But why doesn't the wired ethernet connection work.

I want to have them configured such that if any gets unplugged, as long as at least one of them is plugged in, it can reach the network (even if via a different IP address), and it can be reached (at least when trying a working IP address). I have had some problems with a SATA DVD drive under installation of Slackware 12.2, [URL] So i tried 13.1 instead. But now the ethernet card is not working Its a VIA Rhine card, and it was recognized just fine under 12.2 The following command did nothing: Code: ifconfig eth0 up I am getting no errors. I have also tried using netconfig, no luck there either.

By upgrading to latest kernel(2.6.31-22) the card was recognized but it still doesn't quite work. I'm not that good at this but I'll paste some stuff that I think is related to solving a problem such as this.

I have a Dell WLAN 1397 Half Minicard, 802.11 b/g card in my laptop, and I can't seem to get ubuntu to work with it. I tried this method:
1. Synaptic Pack Manager
2. Check "Install from Boot Disc"
3. Reload
4. Install and apply bcmwl-kernel-source
5. Reboot
This didn't work for me, so I tried entering sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source and that also didn't work. Another thing I tried is formatting my Ubuntu partition and reinstalling, and retrying both of those methods. The ethernet port does work, however.
I've recently bought a recycled computer for my office. The plan was to get an old cheap computer and use it to write LaTex documents but nothing else. However, I can't seem to get the thing to connect to the internet. I'm on a University network which has a funny setup but I don't think that's the problem.So here's the deal. I have tried this with 9.04, 10.04 and 10.10 and it hasn't worked. The computer recognizes the ethernet cable. If I issue the command "sudo mii-tool eth0" and get back "eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok". However, click on the networking logo on the top right, and click auto eth0, it tries to connect for about 30 seconds, then gives up. Unfortunately I'm pretty clueless when it comes to networking so I have no idea what to do to try to fix this.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running Fedora 13, after I updated the kernel to 2.6.34, I have to run (as a superuser) "service NetworkManager start" in order to start my network manager, is there are way I can run this on startup?
Also my ethernet connection seems to only work when I restart/boot up my computer, when I wake my computer up from being asleep, the ethernet stops working.
I changed a mainboard so the network card is RTL8111/8168B Gigabit now. By "ifconfig -a", there is only io, no eth0.

After I insert the r8168.ko, there is eth0. Run "/etc/init.d/network restart", it reports "Determing IP information for eth0... failed; no link present, Check Cable", and I noticed the lights of network card and runter are all off. I can use "ifconfig eth0" now but it cannot connect to other machine.
It's Gigabit card and my runter is 10/100M. I tried "#insmod r8168 speed=100 duplex=1 autoneg=1" and "#insmod r8168 speed=100 duplex=0 autoneg=1", it can not get IP by DHCP either. I also build the .ko from Realteck source code, the behavior is the same.
if I need to do other configurations?

I have some serious trouble getting the Wireless connection working, using Fedora 13 on a Dell XPS M1710 laptop which has an Intel Pro Wireless 3945 ABG adapter. I have previously tried an earlier version of Fedora I think it was version 10, where it worked flawlessly out of the box, but all versions since then, simply wont work properly. I got the Fedora 12 64 bit working at some stage, after using hours and hours trying to get it working, and suddenly it did. Don't know what suddenly made it work, since I haven't made any new changes, just re-checked the old ones. But I needed to use Skype which is only in 32 bit, so I had to reinstall to a 32 bit version, and then couldn't get it working again.
I can get it to work with any Windows version, no problems. I have also tried with PCBSD version 7.x, 8.0 and today I tried the new 8.1 just to see if that worked to, an no problemos, it works perfectly out of the box, I could set it up in 5 minutes, even though I don't have any previous knowledge of PCBSD, other than a few short trial installs.
It has to be said that I am a newbee to any Unix/Linux, so I don't know how to troubleshoot properly, and have only tried a few things which I have picked up from other forums. But unfortunately nothing seems to work. The first thing I did after a clean install was I looked in the Fedora 13 documentation, that says I should check that the NetworkManager is controling the interface, I tried to start up NetworkManager but nothing happens, no reaction what so ever. I tried rebooting and then restarting NetworkManager, but no matter what I try, I won't work, not even if I am using the root account.
I noticed right after the install, that there was a choice of connecting to a hidden network in the lower right corner of the screen, but while I have been trying to get the NetworkManager to work, it has suddenly disappeared (I have disabled SSID broadcast on my Linksys router. I've tried to run lsmod and it seems like the right firmware is running, I think it was called IWL3945 or something like that. I think there were around 3 such modules running, plus a Dell module.
Another important note, before I even touched the the WIFI, I connected to the Internet via my normal fixed LAN connection, and installed all the updates that were available and rebooted the system. I am using an LinkSys WAG354G V2 ADSL router, where I have disabled SSID broadcast. Is there a kind soul out there, who has a good idea of what the problem is, or a good idea of how to troubleshoot it ? since a laptop without a WIFI connection is not of much use to me.
My intel pro wireless 2200 NIC doesn't work anymore. Yesterday it did, but not today (I didn't do anything special, so that it could go wrong).What is ucode and -62? Any ideas? I already checked the forums and found that ipw doesn't work when ndiswrapper is loaded. Well, I don't have it loaded. What happend?
View 8 Replies View Relatedi'd like to extend that ma intel wifi link 5100 is not detected no more after perform upgrade package( upgrade the kernel too ). when im using command 'lshw -C network' , there is appear to be detected, but not on command 'iwconfig' or even 'ifconfig' it just show nothin. also network-manager no longer show that ma wireless is work properly anymore.

I just installed Fedora 15 yesterday and can't get wi-fi to work. When I click 'on' on the Wireless label, it goes back to 'off' immediately. When I open the Network Settings menu and disable Airplane mode, the Wireless connection goes on and then off immediately. I took a look at /var/log/messages and it shows this:

Checked cable/network with 386Box running Ubuntu 8.04 all OK. Could not get Realtek 8168 on mother board to work on Gigabyte H55M-S2H motherboard. I tried to install r8168 driver but no luck ... so I bought another Linux compatible card which turned out to be a RTL8139c (eth1) and the driver I am using on this is card is 8139too.

My preference would be to get the motherboard ethernet working but perhaps the card may be easier to get working. Anyway after searching the net for ideas and trying different things I've just about given up. I have reinstalled Ubuntu today so eth0 is back to using the r8169 driver. I'm no expert so my attempts at following other recipies have so far failed. From what I have read the 8139too driver should have worked with the RTL8139C chip so I have run out of ideas. I must be doing something wrong.
I'm having issues with Ubuntu 8.04 to see my Intel 82574L ethernet card. Ubuntu is not detecting it at all.

copied it to the server, untarred, make install ,and now i'm getting notifications that kernel-devel is not installed. I installed linux-headers from the install cd ( ihave the alternate and server one), but i cannot find any kernel-devel or linux-kernel-devel. The driver still does not want to build after installing linux-headers.
I need to use Ubuntu 8.04 due to some specific requirements, do i need the network cards to work.
Wireless networking doesn't seem to work. When I try to create a new network interface with system-config-network, my wireless card doesn't show up. The following comes from dmesg:
