Ubuntu Networking :: Dell WLAN Card - Ethernet Port Does Work

Jul 28, 2010

I have a Dell WLAN 1397 Half Minicard, 802.11 b/g card in my laptop, and I can't seem to get ubuntu to work with it. I tried this method:

1. Synaptic Pack Manager
2. Check "Install from Boot Disc"
3. Reload
4. Install and apply bcmwl-kernel-source
5. Reboot

This didn't work for me, so I tried entering sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source and that also didn't work. Another thing I tried is formatting my Ubuntu partition and reinstalling, and retrying both of those methods. The ethernet port does work, however.

Fedora Networking :: 14 Can't Connect To SpeedTouch 585 - Either Wireless Broadcom Card Or The Wired Ethernet Card

Dec 4, 2010

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Debian Installation :: Can't Get Pci Express Ethernet Card To Work

Dec 22, 2010

I have an HP Pavillion Elite HPE computer I just got for a server. It has an internal gigabyte on the mother board and I put in one pci express trendnet teg-ectx eternet card in before installing. It is using the realtek 8169 chip. I had the local network on this card and the pubic static ip on the built in ethernet port eth0. After the intstall of debian 5.07 32 bit I couldn't get the eth0 pubic access to work. I can't get into the server with sftp or ssh and openssh has been installed and I can get into it locally on the local network.

I then installed a second ethernet card the same as the local network card. Now the pubic is on the which is eth1 and the local is eth2. I can ping out to [URL] but I can't get into the server on the eth1 using ssh and I have a iptables firewall and I turned it off and I stll can't get in. I am thinking that the eth1 card I added after the install doesn't have the driver or something. nothing is hooked up to eth0 right now.

Networking :: Configuring The D-Link DGE-528T

May 11, 2011

I have just clean installed Ubuntu 11.04 on 3.06 GHz Dual core P4 with 2GB RAM

Code:

jim@venus:~$ uname -r
2.6.38-8-generic

At the same time I purchased a Gigabit NIC from D-Link, mostly because D-Link is a reputable brand and it said on the box compatible with 2.6.x linux kernal. The original NIC is still in the system and can be seen and is functioning as eth0. The system can see the new driver and the card, here is an extract from dmesg:

[ 1.401350] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
[ 1.401390] r8169 0000:02:02.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18

and lspci:

02:04.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6105/VT6106S [Rhine-III] (rev 86)

and ifconfig:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1e:58:9a:1b:0e

so as you can see dead as a door nail, no lights on the card and not picked up by the switch. How do I make this operate?

Ubuntu :: Karmic (amd64) - Memory Usage Never Exceeds 1gb?

Currently I have one instance of Avidemux indexing a 16GB mpeg2 file, another instance of Avidemux transcoding a 4.7GB mpeg2 file into an 860MB mpeg4 (by two pass encoding with fully exhaustive motion detection, extra quality filters, and a wide VBR range), vlc playing a DVD-quality avi, totem playing a DVD-quality ogm, and I'm capturing video from a pvr card.. With compiz managing the desktop (with all the most disgusting eyecandy on: wobbly windows, Atlantis, desktop sphere, experimental plugins from git, etc).My processor (3GHz Athlon x2) is completely maxed out of course... but I can't seem to raise the memory usage over "1.2GiB (16%) of 7.8 GiB"Is that normal? Is there something else I could do to test my memory capacity? (as in really usefulapplications, not just benchmarks)?Alternatively, if karmic is never going to use the rest of that memory, I might opt to run some parts of the desktop environment and/or kernel from a ramdisk.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Creative Zen Micro / Rythmbox On Karmic Koala (9.10 Amd64)

I have a Creative Zen Micro MP3 player (software version 2.21.02) which worked almost in a plug and play fashion with Rhythmbox (0.12) on Jaunty (9.04 / i386). Almost : I just had to make sure that Nautilus had not mounted the Zen as an external medium. Otherwise everything worked as expected.

Now I tried to reuse it on my Karmic Koala (amd64) laptop with Rhythmbox (0.12.7). I've been through several posts but nothing seem to make it work properly : If the Zen is unmounted before starting Rhythmbox it will appear in the media column and it will even show the songs; I can drag and drop songs from the Zen to the Rhythmbox Music library (very slow); but I can't play any song directly from the Zen.Any thoughts on how to get it to :

- speed up transfers between the Zen and the Music library
- play songs from the Zen

May 25, 2011

Go to "/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/" and delete the e1000e.ko-file

Then download [URL]

Take the newly downloaded e1000e.ko-file and move it to "/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/"

And finally load the module with either: "# modprobe e1000e" or "# insmod e1000e".

You should now have a working ethernet connection.

If connection is lost on system restart try rmmod e1000e; modprobe e1000e

I have two ethernet connections and one wireless connection on my netbook. I want to share the internet connection that is going into one of the ethernet cards through the other ethernet card and the wireless card.

DSL-->1sr Eth --> 2nd Eth (currently works)
DSL-->1sr Eth --> Wireless Card (Adhoc) <--(connects with limited connectivity AKA no internet)

The 2nd Ethernet card already has working internet, but when I connect to the Wireless card (through an Adhoc network), it cannot get an IP (I believe).

Ubuntu Networking :: Edimax WiFi Card Not Working With Karmic

Jan 7, 2010

Finally took the plunge and upgraded my ubuntu studio to karmic from jaunty. I seem to be experiencing a problem many have, being that my wifi card (edimax) which worked on my previous distro is now not working at all. I've done a lot of research and found the problem seems to mainly be with broadcom cards, and have tried a number of things relating to those that have worked for others, with no luck.

My problem seems to be not that the drivers wont activate or anything like that, my problem is that under hardware drivers nothing appears at all. I have no drivers present, where most people are talking of 3. i have not found anyone else with this problem. My problem is compounded in addition by not being about to use a wire connection at all.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Get PCI Ethernet Card Working Under 9.10

May 20, 2010

I have just installed a generic PCI ethernet card into a fairly low powered system (Celeron 766MHZ, 512mb Ram, 40 Gb HDD, Generic sound and video). The card came with no drivers. I have since installed Ubuntu 9.10, and up to a point everything is fine and looks great. However when I connect an ethernet cable up to the PCI card (in the hope of connecting with the Internet), nothing happens. I am thinking that I need Ubuntu drivers for the PCI card ? or does Ubuntu 9.10 come with drivers and I need to go into the 'engine room' to sort it all out ?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cheapest, Most Compatible Ethernet Card?

Jul 2, 2010

I've had way too many problems with my network card under linux and I'm looking to buy a new one because the money is worth the lack of headaches. My project: I'm breathing new life into my old, old pentium 4 computer by running Kubuntu Server on it and using it as a little samba filedump.

So I don't want to spend a lot on an ethernet card -- this computer is no prize. I just want the cheapest, most out-of-the-box-compatible-with-no-configuration card I can buy.

I started on Newegg (sorted by price: [URL]....CE&PageSize=20 ), and I've heard that cards based on the RealTek 8129/8139 chip may be compatible/cheap but I can't seem to find out ahead of time what chip the cards are based on.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet Card Not Working In 10.04 Server

Jul 18, 2010

I've set up 10.04 Server so that I could install directly to a command line, due to the fact that Desktop was crashing during the install every time. The installation goes fine, except for the networking portion. DHCP fails every time I try it. So I set up a static IP as an alternative. Once installation completes, none of the network-oriented tools (ping, telnet) work. I've tried pinging my router and I get 'Destination Host Unknown'. This is true if I change to a DHCP oriented setup as well.

The router sees that the machine is there, as indicated by the slowly blinking connection light meaning that it's hooked up to *something* but there's no activity. Also, networking did work within Windows before I nuked it, so I know it has the ability to operate correctly. I'm at a loss, mostly due to my own newness and ignorance of how to start tackling this within this environment.

Networking :: Connect Using An Ethernet Card Using Dhcp ?

Feb 15, 2010

My ISP finished some 'upgrades' on its infrastructure. The result is that I am having great difficulty in connecting to the internet.

I have 3 operating systems on my box - XP, Fedora 8 and Feota 12.

I connect using an ethernet card, using dhcp. In fedora 12, the ethernet card is controlled be networkmanager. After the ISP completed their upgrades, I was not able to connect. I tried to connect manually using

Code:

There was an error message -

Code:

I read the advice here: [url], and removed all but the important lines.

But even after that neither ifup eth0 or dhclient eth0 works.

In fedora 8, the ethernet card is activated by ifup eth0 in /etc/rc.local. I was able to connect on a couple of occasions, but that too stopped working. I tried both ifup eth0, dhclient eth0, and tried to use the gui( which fires the dhclient command), but none worked.

When I use windows, it takes about 2 minutes to get an ip (earlier it was immediate). Sometimes that doesnt work and I have to click on "repair" whereupon it starts working.
