Ubuntu Networking :: Mount To Vista Needed For Apache - Symbolic Link Not Allowed Or Link Target Not Accessible
Apr 26, 2010I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

Nov 1, 2009The past couple days I've been attempting to use ndiswrapper to connect to my home network wirelessly and have run into a slight problem. I'm able to install ndiswrapper (of course), and install the driver. ndiswrapper -l comes up good, showing the driver is in place for my netgear wg311v3 card.
modprobe ndiswrapper I am able to get to work without errors, except, when i type ndiswrapper -ma it writes another file to /etc/modeprobe.d/ndiswrapper causing the deprecation error.
The card scans for networks, and I'm able type in my encryption key.
However it doesn't connect. | grep comes up with the error that the wlan0 link is not ready.
I think I've also been able to determine that the configuration I've put in to the card through the network manager is not actually configured.
Anyone know how I could possibly connect with the card.. It seems it should be able to work. alias wlano is also in place.

May 29, 2010I have "D-Link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter". I can use this wireless adapter on my laptop, i can use it on my desktop as well but only when windows is running, im a newbie to fedora, today is my 2nd day and 3rd night, so pretty exited about it. i have installed fedora 13 on a different hard-disk on my desktop. when the computer is booting, there is an orange light on the adapter glowing, it turns off when the computer reaches the fedora loading screen. If i see fedora's Network Configuration window under the hardware's tab i see the "D-Link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter" listed along with my lan card. Now if i go towards the clock on the top right to get the wireless connection working, it shows wireless network disconnected. I have tried creating wireless connection manually by inserting the SSID, macadress, BSSID, ,WPA passkey etc, but still doesnt works. when i try connecting using hidden wireless connection, i receive window for inserting keyring password again and again, stating that the login password does not match. but during all this time, i still havent seen the orange light glowing activity on the external usb adapter. If i restart the computer in windows the adapter/wireless connection works. also have checked the Network service, it seems that the service is up and running. i really require some assisstance on this,
i have noticed this, that if i go under network configuration. the first tab over there, inside devices i cant see my D-Link adapter, but if i switch onto the hardware tab it shows my lan card as well as my D-Link adapter. so does it means that the driver is missing? or any service which is disabled, however at this point of time i can get only using wired connection. please assist me. with this issue, im also downloading the 500 complete update as well for fedora, hoping that it may make it work.

Fedora Networking :: Macs Can't Follow Sym Link?
Jan 10, 2011I have what I thought would be a simple issue: I have a Linux server and a bunch of people with Macs on a small business network.I'm trying to set it up so that using AFP, people can access the Linux server and drag and drop files to our test web development server. In each person's home directory there's a sym link to the /var/www/html directory, so that they can easily plop their test files there.I've got the hard part taken care of: AFP works, the Linux server appears on the network, and the Mac users can connect and log in.However, my sym link doesn't show up as a directory inside the Mac Finder...it shows up as an application. I don't know if this is something as simple as a permissions problem or whether I need to do more configuring to get AFP to play nice.

Mar 3, 2009I have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?
- is there any utility that updates symlinks when a directory is moved?
- is there any Linux filesystem that supports hard linked directories?

May 22, 2011I've just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my dell inspiron mini 10; dual-booting it with Windows 7.
I've looked at a couple of other threads about problems with the wireless card in the netbook and about problems with the wireless router. However, this problem doesn't seem to be the same; the netbook can see other wireless networks, just not mine, and other people seemed to be able to access their wireless network for a short period of time before they stopped being able to access it.
I can't see the wireless network on the D-link DIR-615 at all in ubuntu, though it still works in windows 7.
I've tried reinstalling the broadcom STA drivers as per this link and reinstalling but this hasn't made any difference.
What things should I consider trying in order to resolve this?
Ps. As a side note, my other ubuntu laptop (a toshiba equium A100) cannot see this network either, but has no problem connecting to other, although oddly it couldn't detect it in windows either before I put in a new harddrive and installed ubuntu on it.

I have found 2 ways of checking ethernet connection, via proc/net/dev and via ifconfig eth0. But if possible I want to avoid polling. So is there any event that is triggered when the table gets disconnect or at least the connection goes down and up?

Jan 31, 2011I am attempting to setup and old BBSinside of DosBOXI've built one of the DosBOX Megabuilds, with the NE2000 patch.It uses libpcap in order to piggy back on top of the system's NIC. All of the dosbox side appears to be working.My system comes up, gets the MAC address i told it to use, i can load a packet driver in dosbox, all of that seems well and good. The issue, i think, is on the linux side. It's built on a Fedora 14 box. I'm getting the feeling that networking isnt getting out of the dosbox instance. Does it seem possible that fedora needs to have some config in place to link networking over to dosbox?

Jan 3, 2010I feel I am really really close at getting this connected.
The native ath9k driver did not work. I blacklisted this driver and then proceeded to load a windows driver that came with the card through ndiswrapper.
The system sees my wireless router but I could not get connected to the router. I get the circle of death of it trying to connect though.
I then replaced the Network Manager with Wicd.
I try and connect, after setting the preshared key, and it stops at the very end saying it could not obtain an IP address.
I then try to set a static IP, and at the very end it comes back with, "could not contact wireless access point".
I feel I am so close to getting this connected I just don't know if it is a setting on my router I need to change or to look for a different driver. Driver should be fine but I'm no expert.
I have two other computers wireless'ly connected to this router currently and one of them is connected via a dual boot, Ubuntu and Win7, so at the very least these two computers don't have any issues connecting to the router.
Or I am just going to live with WinXP installed on it instead. BTW: I had no problems getting a wireless connection from this laptop when I had WinXP installed, but I have since wiped it off with a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10. Goes to show how much I want to rid myself of Windows on the laptop.
I even installed 8.04 to see if I could make a connection with that version but to no avail I could not. I have since reloaded 9.10.

It quite happily flashed it's light, and when I click on the wifi icon on the top panel it lists a bunch of wifi networks including my own. However, when I select my network and enter the passphrase it doesn't connect, and just keeps asking for the passphrase/key again

Feb 2, 2011I am trying to get my wireless card to work in my desktop, which I recently upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04. It worked right out of the box in 8.04, but I'm finding it impossible to kick start in the newer LTS version. My wirless card is: D-link WDA2320 The Ubuntu wireless card Wiki sticky note at the top of this section supports my problems, stating: "Worked out of the box in 7.04, 7.10 and 8.04. WPA worked automatically in 7.10 and 8.04. In 9.04, works out of the box, but system hangs periodically with the ath5k driver; you must instead enable the madwifi driver in the Hardware Drivers dialog to get a stable system. In 9.10, does not work out of the box."
Obviously, it does not give me any information on 10.04, so I'm not sure it is even possible to get working. Assuming it would even work, I tried looking for madwifi in the Hardware drivers dialog (assuming they are referring to the option through System/Administration?), but cannot find it, or figure out how to search for it. Following the rules suggested for resolving wireless problems, here is my info:
