Sep 23, 2010
I had a Ubuntu USB key that booted x64 and brought up the wireless network mgr with DLINK WDA-2320. But it was lost. Now I am trying different distro images to get back to what I had. But none has the Network mgr with wireless in it.I don't have any other Linux/UNIX machine here at home. Just Winbloze.Do you know which Ubuntu CD/USB image comes with a network manager and wireless for DLink WDA-2320 PCI ?

I'm new to openSUSE, and Linux in general. I have downloaded the following file from the D-Link site:
dwa140_BETAdriver_1201.zip
I've copied it to a dvd, and have placed the dvd in my openSUSE machine. I've made several attempts at installing this myself, but Linux has me a bit stumped.

I have prepared a static lib(.a) comprising 2 function definitions. I have created a different shared library(.so) comprising 2 more functions. The two functions of .so use the functions defined in the .a file. That is, the .so file uses the services of the .a file. Next, I create an executable that uses the shared library(.so). When I build my executable, it needs to be linked with the .a file as well. it gives me undefined reference for the functions defined in the .a file. Why is that so? I am posing this question because, the .a file has already been included(static linking) while bulding the .so. Is there any workaround so that I need not link the .a file with my final executable?

I am trying to get my wireless card to work in my desktop, which I recently upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04. It worked right out of the box in 8.04, but I'm finding it impossible to kick start in the newer LTS version. My wirless card is: D-link WDA2320 The Ubuntu wireless card Wiki sticky note at the top of this section supports my problems, stating: "Worked out of the box in 7.04, 7.10 and 8.04. WPA worked automatically in 7.10 and 8.04. In 9.04, works out of the box, but system hangs periodically with the ath5k driver; you must instead enable the madwifi driver in the Hardware Drivers dialog to get a stable system. In 9.10, does not work out of the box."
Obviously, it does not give me any information on 10.04, so I'm not sure it is even possible to get working. Assuming it would even work, I tried looking for madwifi in the Hardware drivers dialog (assuming they are referring to the option through System/Administration?), but cannot find it, or figure out how to search for it. Following the rules suggested for resolving wireless problems, here is my info:

I have a problem here where sane no longer detects my scanner.
Code:
lsusb
reports
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 03f0:5b17 Hewlett-Packard
Code:
sane-find-scanner
reports:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x5b17 [HP Color LaserJet CM2320fxi MFP]) at libusb:007:002
Code:
scanimage -L
reports
No scanners were identified. xsane reports no devices detected (I have it in French, "Aucun p'rif'rique disponible"). I get the same when I launch xsane as root, so I doubt it is a usb-rules issue. It used to work; I checked /proc/bus/usb, but that is empty.

I have a desktop running Ubuntu 10, a D-Link DIR 320 router which allows my laptop and desktop to share printers/internet. I can get my Canon MP250 to print directly from Ubuntu via USB, and it works wireless from laptop, but I don't know how to get it printing via the usb port connected to the router. Documentation suggests I use 192.168.0.1 but just can't figure out what needs to happen to make the darn thing connect!

First of all, let me just state that i want to make a small server for my home.. which includes hosting a website and a small FTP server.
Now as far as ease, stability, use, etc.. just overall, which would be more ideal to use for this?
My top choices are FreeBSD and Ubuntu Server.
However, I do not know which of these to go with, since this is my first time setting up a server. I hear BSD is really best for web servers, but I would like to hear what the people at LQ has to say.
I know Ubuntu Server would probably be more easy to set up, but how is it in terms of stability and speed?

I have been trying to get 9.10 to work with my D Link DWA 125 USB WiFi antenna for days now. I have searched these forums as well as other forums for answers. I have tried all of the suggestions I have come across, some simple, some complex. Nothing works. I have tried ndiswrapper, blacklisting drivers, re-installing, modifying the 2870sta.dat file......nothing works (or maybe I'm doing it wrong...I don't know).
I have a fresh install of 9.10 .Can someone please walk me through this and show me what I'm doing wrong?

At home in Guangzhou, I have no problem connecting to a WPA-secured wireless router. Now I'm on vacation in another city trying to use a dLink DI-624 router. If I connect immediately after reboot, no problem. If I suspend the session and then wake the machine up again, it will try to connect and then tell me WPA authentication failed. This happens both with network manager and wicd.sysinfo says the network controller is an Atheros AR9285 (ethernet is Realtek RTL8101E/8102E, probably not relevant).Since everything works correctly with routers other than the dLink, I'd have to guess it's not a general wireless configuration problem, nor a wireless card malfunction. Maybe some bad handshaking that manifests only after waking from sleep?More out of curiosity -- I'll only be here for a few weeks and a wired connection is readily available. But, say I end up in a hotel somewhere that uses dLink for WiFi

If I use a default policy of accept all, then the php includes work which is not safe. I am running a drupal 6 site on a centos 5.3 vps with apache 2.2.0 and php 5.2.6 w/ safe mode on. Does anyone have experience with the D-LINK DIR-655 gateway OR router OR wireless access point? On the surface, I like this box, but it is giving me grief. First, it wants me to use a win-dose CD configurator application. I use the embedded web page configurator. Next, there are several configuration wizards at the embedded web page. After trying the wizards, I went to the manual screens to tinker to get something working.
So what is going on? When a LAN client connects, I want DHCP to present at least two "nameserver" values ... which then make their way into /etc/resolv.conf The DIR-655 plays some nameserver games like caching and blacklisting and other things. However, I get some ad-vert page from "dnssearch" or "yahoo" or similar when names don't resolve. I really don't want this behavior. Network-manager does not report the connection down, however streaming anything stops or "reconnects", browsing times out, LAN side traffic seems to stop as well.

Now I'm porting a WIFI driver to my platform, MIPS little endian, Linux-2.6.18, uClibc environment for STB. And I'm experiencing some strange symptom. As you know, there are some kind of include files that system provides such like GCC-provided(usually in /usr/include), LIBC-includes(/usr/include), Linux-includes(${LINUX}/include/linux), ASM-includes(${LINUX}/include/asm) and so on, and there are many files resides different directories as the same name (e.g. time.h, types.h, limits.h ...) and many of them has
different contents.
I'm confusing because that some include files are read from unexpected directories.
The command line is like following. $ cross-gcc -o Target -I$(GCC_INC) -I$(LIB_INC) -I$(appl_inc) -isystem $(LINUX)/include -isystem $(LINUX)/include/linux Source.c
And some symbol means:
GCC_INC: directory for GCC include files.
LIB_INC: directory for LIBC include files.
LINUX: Linux kernel directory.
[code]....
As shown above, some include files are read from unexpected directory. This causes some severe compile errors. I've verified these by adding '-E' to the command line. How can I order GCC to read files from where I'm expect?

As per our requirement, I need to implement a Secure FTP server for around 500 users which includes security level on both - Transfer and Rest data. Apart from this I also need the following features -
1. Size quota on Users & reminder mails for the same
2. Password expiry notifications and user interface to change their password within specified time interval
3. Aging of data - After specified time, data will be moved to some other location from their home directory
4. All type of log maintenace for each file and user and log exporting
5. Uploading & Downloading speed consistency as per server level.
6. Read-write interface for user and read-only interface for their client for the same account.
7. Backup and Recovery options.
As of now, I am using VSFTPD which does not give these much of features in combine.

Older laptop I just upgraded to FC13. I would like to use a Dlink DWL-650 pcmcia card. The system sees it.
#iwlist wlan0 scanning
Cell 01, mac, chan, freq and everything else for my base router
Cell 02, same thing for my extender unit
ifconfig wlan0
wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0D:88:AA:AA:AC
inet6 addr: fe80::20d:88ff:feaa:aaac/64 Scope:Link
[Code]...
ifcfg-wlan0 is set for DHCP. Notice above no IP. If ifcfg is given an IP/mask still no IP. So it seems to be up and running, just not accessible.
