I was wondering how to crack WEP WiFis.I have a WEP connection and was wondering how easy it would be for others to use my internet. I have Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. If anybody could me a link to a tutorial, it would be great. I googled it up and currently have aircrack-ng installed and am installing SWScanner.What other tools/dependencies do I need?

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe previous install went down the drain because the harddrive failed. So: a new install. Due to some limitations, this is the setup (it is for a hobby, nothing pro) P4 with Debian 5, Alsa and OSS installed, Audacity (I know, Ardour, but that thing had the same issues) and a soundblaster as in/out. On the in-plug, there is a mixer panel, there are some synths hooked up. The out goes to PC speakers.
Yea, I know, nothing fancy, but...when I play, I can hear everyhting tru the speakers at pretty good quality. Given that my synth makes some white noise itself, but that's besides the point... So, I hit the record, play and hear everything crystal clear, then I rewind and hit record to record the next track and the previous track has a lot of distortion... Same with the previous setup: Jack and Ardour on a Debian 6... By the way, yes, I do have a LynxOne lying around, but I cant get the drivers...they're not free, unless I missed something...
Ubuntu 10.10 x64 worked out of the box for me but there is one irritating issue.
I have Xonar DS(Oxygen HD Audio) with analogue 2.1 speakers and spdif passthrough to nvidia GTX260 hdmi output for my tv.
It makes random cracking noise on tv unless something is played, no matter on analogue or digital output, then is noiseless.

I have just installed squeeze 6.0.2 amd64 and noticed when I use k3b to burn/verify a disc, when it has finished burning the media it plays a sound, and rather sound is played which sounds very crackly/muffled.I do not remember this on ubuntu, and I cannot say for sure but I dont recall this happening on squeeze 6.0.1.
Sound plays perfectly in all other applications, no problems whatsoever.This is not a big deal, I just dont remember this happening. I know this isnt the most detailed posting but does anyone have any idea what this could be? I even tried to reinstall k3b through synaptics and the problem still persists.
Just a minor question, but I notice with aircrack when it lists networks, it does not list the encryption type of each network.
Which seems fair enough, as you can use Kismet, however on my machine when I end kismet and the server, the monitor interface is not removed and I cannot remove it manually, which screws with aircrack.
SO, is kismet needed to view encryption types of networks, and if so how do you use it peacefully in unison with aircrack?
I have AT&T as a cellphone carrier, using the Pantech Breeze unit.
The SIM card is really annoying, as it has in the Contacts section seven or nine AT&T contacts and services that I do not want, but I cannot delete. I have to scroll through these annoying contacts in order to get to contacts that I really care about.
1. Does anybody know how I can delete these contacts short of using cloning software?
2. If I did use cloning which Ive never done before can I remove these AT&T contacts as part of the cloning process and use the cloned card in the phone?
I set up an ASUS WL-500gP with original ASUS firmware to my LAN with IP address 192.168.1.1. If I navigate to address [URL] in my Firefox address bar, an Authentication required window opens up asking for "User name: " and "Password: ". Correct "User name: " is "admin" and correct "Password: " is "pA55w0Rd". They work fine if I type them in manually to the Authentication required window, but for some reason I can't get in using the hydra with words.txt password file, which contains "pA55w0Rd":

View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there an app for Ubuntu, or can you show me how to write a PHP, Perl, or Python script, that lets me record a webcam screenshot every 15 minutes and upload it to my Dropbox account (or FTP location)? Of course, if I'm using the webcam for something else, I'd need a way to have the script automatically detect it's in use, or to let me disable it, unless it can still run while I'm using the webcam for something else.
Basically I want to use this for help in tracking down thieves who might steal my laptop and try to fire it up. Somehow I'd like to snag the IP address and a webcam shot every 15 minutes, with about 2 days storage. Need color and 800x600 too.
I'm using FSC Lifebook S series, to be more specific S7210. I know from specs and from Win that it contains onboard accelerometer, in Win Vista it works perfectly, with FSC supplied "Motion sensor utility" it protects hard disk from damage during sudden shakes of notebook.
The question is - i couldn't anyhow find any note in Ubuntu that it is recognized and is used as it should be. So I'm wondering is it done automatically or it is not used at all? If it is working is there any way to check some status of it, or if it isn't how to get it to protect hdd?
I'm trying to create a bootable HFS+ partition. I've succeeded in creating the HFS+ partition in Windows using Mac Drive 8, but need to set the partition to "Active" to be able to install an OS on it. The issue lies that when I try to set it to active in windows disk management it tells me that the media has been write protected by Mac Drive. I want to either set the partition as active (or at least disable write protection to allow me to set it as active in windows) or find another means of creating an HFS+ partition, which I know gparted claims to do but I can't manage to enable it. I'm currently running Windows 7 but I have Ubuntu 9.04 Live CD to use if necessary.

In addition to this I'm thinking of using a one-way hash to verify document integrity.

I installed TrueCrype 6.3a on my 8.1 Ubuntu. Everything went fine until I got to the part where I need to protect my hidden volume from damaged caused by writing to the outer volume (these instructions: [url] ). I can't find the checkbox to "Protect hidden volume from damaged caused by writing to outer volume". The closest thing I can find is an option to "Protect hidden volume when mounting outer volume". Intuitively these don't sound the same to me. There are 2 difference between my setup and the instructions; 1) the instructions appear to be written for Windows and not Linux. 2) I am using a file volume and not a partition volume.
Does anyone know where the option is to protect the hidden volume when writing to the outer volume?
I have a desktop with Ubuntu on it that will be used by children for internet access and the parents of those who will be using it would like that some sort of basic child protection software was installed on it so that those using the computer don't accidentally or even deliberately out of curiosity access adult material.Is there a decent easy to use Ubuntu software out there that allows for parental control over what kind of websites can be accessed by children?

View 9 Replies View RelatedBecause of a hard disk failure I had to buy a new disk and reinstall Ubuntu 10.04. Prior to the install I was running the live cd version of 10.04. When I connected to my wireless network and entered the password the key manager wanted me to enter a password to protect the network password. Now every time I boot up the system the network will not automatically connect. (It used to do this). Now I have to click on the network manager and select my network. When I do this I get the key manager asking for a password.
So how do I stop the key manager nonsense and get the network to connect automatically as it once did.
When surfing the net do you need virus protection? And if so what do you recommend?

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, I'm the only user, I disabled all login password requirements because they were annoying me and I'm cool with anybody using any of my applications as long as they aren't capable of changing my system in any way. Some of the applications I would like to be on the list include the terminal, the network connections preferences, the keyboard preferences. I've been attempting to back up my collection of DVDs to an external hard drive using Brasero. I've successfully ripped many of the DVDs to ISO with Brasero, but am now wondering if it'd be possible to burn these back to other discs if I bought them in the future. In other words, does Brasero leave copy protection in place and just bypass it when ripping to ISO, or does Brasero remove copy protection all together leaving me with an decrypted ISO?

Now I have an issue, because the hard drive had linux Ubuntu installed on it, the hard drive is write protected. So I cant copy any files.
