I'm a complete beginner who just installed 10.04. I'm trying to follow guides to setup my internet connection, but I am completely unable to locate the Network Manager Icon. I have the notification area already, but there is no icon. I tried the instructions here
After inputting
nm-applet --sm-disable
It gave me:

everything was excellent till yesterday evening but from the evening, when i switched on my pc, the Network Connections icon is missing from the panel of my fedora 12 os. i'm being able to connect to internet from Systems->Preferences->Network connections & check Connect Automatically to my Mobile broadband connection. but i'm not being able to disconnect it. i've to remove the mobile phone from my pc.please put some light on how will I be able to disconnect it (without removing the phone)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.

I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. everything was working fine until i installed firestarter. i didnt like it and uninstalled it. when i did that i lost my wireless signal icon at the top of the screen, firefox starts up in offline mode, and limewire says that network connection is lost. i just want it back the way it was before installing firestarter. please help, i dont want to reinstall ubuntu if i dont have to.
View 2 Replies View Related3 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online.My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.
Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied.It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.
I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.
The connection/network icon that showed next to the clock is gone. i told it to "move", but instead it removed. grrrrr. now when i go to add, i dont see it. same with email.

I have installed qemu/kvm and created a Bridged network connection which works just fine(Windows 7 VM won't work in NAT mode.)
But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)
The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.
Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?
I am using FC14
i'm try to find what i can do to reactivate the network icon (where i can select the wifi network i want to connect), which are usualy on the 'tableau de bord'

After a recent dist-upgrade I have lost my network.There is no Network manager icon in the top corner.My switch and the RJ45 port on the PC are both lit green and connected. There is an internet connection from the other PC on the LAN.I am now able to ping the other PC on the LAN but still no internet!My router is at 192.168.0.1 so I have also tried:sudo route add default gw 192.168.0.1.

After restart the Network-Manager icon had vanished from the tool bar and was replaced by a second loudspeaker control icon. No ability to link to the internet. Starting Network-Manager from the pull-down menus did not help.Muggins Noob thought, un/re-install Network Manager. Duh! Uninstall is fine, but re-installing from the web without Network-Manager, tricky. Sadly no ethernet wire available, either wifi or GSM/3G.

Fantastic experience and then suddenly yesterday after nearly 2 hours of a smooth online session I lost internet connectiivity.At that point I noticed that the network icon on top was showing a red cross. After clicking on it I could NOT eth0. I specifically remember seeing it there before.I checked the cables and the setting to no avail and just could not get it back. Any idea what I should be doing to see eth0 in the connection?Also FYI I have been noticing this from day one since I installed FC14----When going through administration-->network-->One cannot see the red and GREEN activate button that I am used to seeing in FC9. In fc14 its greyed out. So I actually had to go and enter the /etc/init.d/network start command to change the status from inactivate to activate.Also the network manager does not seem to be managing eth01 as it does not appear as an entry in its console.

I have two users (me & my wife). We often log in and use switch users so we're both logged in at the same time.
Whoever logs in first will get the network manager icon in the top panel, and whoever logs in second won't get the icon.
The second user does get a message (growl notification?) saying the wireless network <whatever> is now connected & it is indeed connected.
It's a bit annoying, as if I log in second, I can't chnage my wireless network to the other one we have, I'm stuck using whichever one my wife selected.

Everything went fine when couple of days ago, after doing normal updates as listed by the update manager, sound went off.. to solve this, I had to remove and reinstall certain packages as listed in [URL] ...+documentation, I had to restart, after restarting, the sound problem was gone but the network manager icon went off, the modem was not getting power from the computer though the LAN wire was connected. To add to dismay, the mobile broadband connections that I had added to the network manager were gone. I tried adding the tata photon plus (huwaein) again but could not be added, reinstalled usb-mode switch data and related packages, but still the computer does not detect the photon as usb device. I have broadband dsl connection and tata photon plus too but cant use any of them.

It is funny because, I have other network mounts which share the same server, and there icons are appearing, and this particular share just does not show up with the icon, even if I try mounting it different locations in the filesystem. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?
I am losing network bandwidth and I am quite frankly I am not sure why, I don't have allot memory 495.6Mib
But I clean my PC every few days "BleachBit"
I have read some where on the magazine Network receiving suppose to be higher. so how can I fix this issue please i am having allot problems, u use cable from Comcast
