I need a Download Accelerator that will allow me to download files from Fileshare with my premium account and will also allow me to add more that one link at once. Chrome integration would be nice as well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedExcuse me for bringing back this kind of subject already discussed by other users, but I need it. I have slow internet connection so I need a download manager that is able to accelerate downloads and resume them after they are paused or interrupted by provider disconnection. I tried kget but it's very slow. After some minutes downloads hadn't even started. I found that downthemall and prozgui got a more suitable speed but I have had problems with latter versions of both.
In downthemall almost at all downloads that amount to a size of several Mb's the speed start to slow down when it reaches from 90% to 99% completed until 0kb/s and download pauses, needing manual resuming. But I can stay watching downloads to see when they'll stop, mainly if they are large. Prozgui worked fine in my opensuse 11.3 install but now on 11.4 some downloads seem to end up correctly but when I use them some files are corrupted.
I have used wget to try to download a big file. After several hours I realized that it would have been better to use a download accelerator. I would not like to discard the significant portion that wget has already downloaded. Do you know of any download accelerator that can resume this partial download?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm relatively new to linux, but i've learned some stuff and still have some goals. I'm seeking some advice on the best way to proceed. if this question is well answered elsewhere, a link to that would be sufficient.
my goal: use a linux box as a password-protected (read/write) fileshare server on a home network, for compatability with windows 7 machines. Files/drives to be shared are on external hard drives for volume reasons.
What I have accomplished so far: ubuntu 9.10 up and running on old desktop using php5, phpmyadmin, mysql - got http home page set up that is accessible over home network remote desktop is enabled, works successfully
external hard drives mount automatically in ubuntu, data is accessible/usable SAMBA is downloaded. Is Samba the best way to proceed? I've tried to read up on the samba's docs, but I still don't exactly understand What it is or How it works, and also whether it will work with Windows 7 Home pcs. do i have to dl software for the windoze pcs, and mess with the registry? is it worth it? Ideally I want other home network users to be able to access the fileshare server without having to mess around on each individual computer....
Are there other options? Is there some way I could mount my external HDs in the folder that my /var/www folder that the server automatically references, and make some kind of http-based directory navigation for file transfer? Would password protecting the home/index page be sufficient to ensure some amount of security? is some kind of FTP a better option? whats a good program or link to check out for ftp?
I spent a little time searching google for this with no success, I'm pretty sure its a simple thing but I rather ask..I have Ubuntu server edition, postfix installed and running ( well he relay all outgoing mail to my another mail server ( provided by my web hosting company ) ) so it send all mails that come to user@localhost accounts.What I need now is some email client that would actually connect to that external mail server and download the messages to the ubuntu server for me to view.I need something like Mozilla Thunderbird but for command line.

The problem is, whenever i invoke any one click installation from any website, (for example vlc), the yast manager is trying to download packages other than vlc which account for about 1.5GB. But I can see that vlc comes to merely 40MB. How to remove those unwanted downloads? and continue to install only what we wanted? I am running opensuse 11.4 with gnome on my notebook

It says:
I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.

I prefer to have the Keyboard Accelerators underlined at all times.
That is, I don't want them hidden until I press Alt.
Keyboard accelerators aren't accelerating my work if I have to wait a second or two to read what the underlined letter is after I press the Alt key.
On Windows there's a setting for this (Control Panel, Display, Appearance, Effects, Hide Underlined letters).
Where can I set this in Ubuntu?
I read that setting gtk-enable-mnemonics=1 in a ~/.gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file should do it. I tried that. Doesn't work.

I upgraded from 9.4 to latest version of Ubuntu. Now I cannot connect wireless printer. States I do not have the required packages. I have loaded about everything zI can find relating to Bluetooth and it still will not connect. I have a Linksys router. Also, in my System (both preferences and administrative) I can no longer find the "Printer" section.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulty connecting to a PC that runs Windows 7 (and suffice it to say Windows XP as well). I go to Places > Connect to Server and choose Windows share from the drop-down list. I enter in the computer's IP address in the Server field and click Connect, when I'm brought to the "Password required for x" screen (x being the IP address). I enter my username for the Windows machine, leave the Domain field as is (it is WORKGROUP by default, which is the Workgroup name for both PCs), and then I enter my Windows password. The dialog keeps popping up as if I entered incorrect credentials. I do want to point out, on the dialog, it asks for a Domain name. Since I do not have this computer connected to a domain (I'm at home), it is a workgroup network. However, prior to Ubuntu 10.10, I was able to use this method to connect to Windows computers.

I'm in charge of the hardware and my friend about software (linux distribution, etc). after searching through many models of motherboards I've found one candidate: Asus P6X58D Premium. Then, I realized that probably, there isn't any driver for that motherboard. So, I've browsed to [URL] then on the download tab and discovered there was: "DOS, Netware, Unixware, Windows 2000 to 7 x64 and others" but no Linux option
So, I've searched in other similar motherboards: for example P6T Deluxe. At the Linux option, the drivers were about audio issues....So, does really need a distribution x64 for server based on Debian, Ubuntu, etc, these drivers to work correctly on Asus P6X58D Premium?
Fedora 13 on Asus P5Q Premium, E7500 hangs after 10mins to 2 hour. After some trial and error, I found that the problem could be related to yum although it could be that it is only by running yum that I've been able to trace the problem. On runlevel 3 (to make sure it's not an X server problem), system hangs and prints the following message on the screen (copied it by hand, still have to figure out where to find it after system restart):

I have a hw RAID setup but the problem is the same, only the numbers are a bit different.
It is not a hw-related problem either because both the latest Suse and Kubuntu install without problems (although both seem to have problems in starting with RAID installed, normal disk is OK). Of course, I only have myself to blame because Asus says that this mb is compatible with FC8 - I haven't been able to test because my machine seems to have problems in booting from install DVD - but I suspect it is because that was the time this mb was launched and they haven't tried it on more recent Fedora distros.
Interestingly enough, the same problem comes with F12 and F11, didn't have energy to go further back. I've been using RedHat since ver 5.2. and would hate to give up following the path now. Fedora just stands out from the crowd so much that I can tolerate some inconveniences. This is just a bit too much.
It says on the dropbox site that files are stored encrypted on their servers-but can anyone vouch for this?
Is there something in the repos i can use to encrypt the files before i upload them to dropbox? Annoying that truecrypt cant do this...

If I select the photo paper tray before printing manually from the try icon tool I get a message the paper was not ok "Papier unzulssig".additional info: I cannot make it print under gimp at all. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm starting to spec out a new GNU/Linux boxen. I'm considering the ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard. Has anyone had any experience with this board in terms of compatibility with openSUSE 11.2/11.3? I'm mainly concerned about:
on-board sound: Realtek ALC889
ethernet: Marvell 88E8056
new interfaces: SATA3, USB3.0
being able to use: AHCI (which I had to turn off on a netbook, Acer Aspire 1410, for hard drive stability), 64-bit kernel I'm planning to use an i7-930 or i7-950 (should the price drop in August as rumored) with 6 GB DDR3 1333 RAM (not planning to overclock, as yet). The graphics card will probably be an NVidia GT240 or so (budgeting about $100 for the graphics card).
Also, I'm hoping to move some old IDE drives over using IDE->SATA 1 bridge cards. Any advice on this? Or should I just get a new SATA 3 drive? For the optical drives (DVD RW/CD RW), I'd like to use bridge cards since there's no benefit for the higher speed SATA interface, or is there?
P.S. For the naive question: As I haven't dealt with 64-bit installs before... I would need the 64-bit kernel for full access to all the extra address space, correct? After that, I can still run 32-bit apps, with a slight speed penalty?
I've got several large files sitting in my linux hosted account that I need to upload to my S3 account. I dont want to download them first and then upload it into S3. Is there any way I can "upload" it via the linux command line environment? Or access it via a website working with lynx?

I thought that I would try the KDE desktop and installed it with the command
yum groupinstall "KDE (K Desktop Environment)"
After tasting KDE for a while I decided that I far prefer Gnome.
I removed the KDE with
yum groupremove "KDE (K Desktop Environment)"
This appeared to work but I then found that whilst I can boot into Windows 7, I can no longer boot into Fedora 12.
I have tried booting the F12 DVD and going into to the Rescue function. I re-installed grub but still cannot boot into F12.
I have looked at grub.conf but can see nothing wrong.
When I use ls -al to show files downloaded from internet,

I can see the owner and group ids are shown because there are no corresponding entries in /etc/passwd and /etc/group respectively. I don't know much about linux and dare not to edit these files, I wonder if somebody already knows whether linux would map the owner id of files coming from other computers to the account name in /etc/passwd and display them when necessary (for example, when using ls -al)?
On a Fedora Core box, I have a normal non-privileged user and I also have sole access to the root account. Because I am the only administrator of this box, I frequently su over to root for administrative tasks. The problem is that many of the user configuration I've become accustomed to are only configured on my day-to-day account (.vimrc, .bashrc, .screenrc, etc). Other than giving my day-to-day user account privileges to perform administration tasks, how would I go about sharing configuration between these two accounts?
