Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video File Colours Messed Up Every Time Restart?

Nov 12, 2010

every time I reboot and play a video file the colours are messed up. I need to manually increase then decrease the hue or saturation to get the picture to normal in smplayer. The colours aren't competely inversed as in the common bug with the totem sliders, they're just far too red and bright.Smplayer is the latest from PPA. I've checked the totem settings and everything is OK. It only takes two key presses to resolve but it's a pain, to be honest, so if anyone knows what causes this and how to fix it permanently I'd be much obliged.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Restart A Video Driver (NVidia)

Sep 21, 2010

I'm using my Ubuntu 10.04 as a server, headless or with HDMI receiver/TV setup. There is a lot's of topics how to make it work headless/VNS. I found the least trouble is to make a fake VGA from old VGA cable and 3 resistors. However, when I start my Ubuntu with Fake VGA it won't switch to HDMI when I turn my Receiver/HDMI on. If I restart X it is fastest way to pick the HDMI Video/7.1 Audio up. I can do it via VNC or ssh and going to do it with 'irexec' so my wife will be able to redetect the HDMI and run XBMC with one button click of the remote. The problem is restarting X kills all my GUI apps (KTorrent, ...). Is there a way to force the video driver to restart or redetect the screens?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: X Restart Needed To Play Video Files After Changes To Nvidia Settings?

Apr 16, 2010

I run Ubuntu 9.04 on with proprietary NVidia driver 180.44.When I change anything in the nvidia-settings, e.g. screen resolution, brightness, second screen etc, everything works fine - except for the fact that I can't play any video files in any player. Sound is there, players don't display any error messages, but the image is black. Flash video within browsers is fine, though.Things go back to normal with the new settings kept after restarting X. However, having to restart X and lose my desktop set up every time when I just want to connect my laptop to my office screen is highly inconvenient. Is this a bug or expected behaviour that I have to live with?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can Only Get 1 Video Adapter To Work At The Same Time

Jul 12, 2011

With out going into 2 much detail at this point this is my issue.

I have installed unbuntu 11.04. I have 3 screens. 2 are attached to a ATi adapter and 1 screen is a sandy bridge video adapter.

I have already used the forums a lot to reach this point.

When i change my bios to set the primary adapter to sandy bridge, I can only get 1 screen to work.

When I set my bios to point to the Ati adapter as primary, then only the 2 screens connected to that adapter work.

How do I get both video adapters and all 3 screens to work?

I have run out of ideas on what my next step should be.

Ati adapter is a Radeon HD 4800 Series. The Sandy bridge one HD Graphics Family

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Onboard HDMI And A Video Card At Same Time?

Jul 26, 2010

I'm looking at upgrading my motherboard and graphics card. Ideally, I'd like to have 2 monitors running at once (DVI), and an output to an LCD projector (HDMI). If I can't have all 3 working at once, I'd like the 2 monitors on all the time (off the graphics card), and then switch from the monitors to the HDMI output so that only the projector is getting video.

So, If I get a motherboard with onboard HDMI, would it be possible to run the HDMI out at the same time as the graphics card output?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Find A Simple Video Cutter That Works All The Time

Nov 13, 2010

I been struggling with this since Karmic and I know others have as well. This is really the only thing making me keep a Windows install around for my personal stuff.

Problem: Convert .TS files to iPod or really any smaller format keeping A/V sync after edit. I can covert my .TS file perfectly if I do not edit it but I want to just do a simple, quick trim of 2 mins from beginning and end.

HandBrake with convert the file perfectly but cannot trim. Avidemux does a great job on the video but I always have to play with the audio shift to get it in sync. It is usually betwenn -250ms to -1000ms off but I cannot count on it. If I run the video through DGIndex in Wine or view it with Mediainfo both programs detect the an offset problem but they are always wrong by almost 500ms and it is never constant.

Regular video editing I have pretty good luck with my normal DV files and I could even run the .TS files through other programs but it is too time consuming to be useful form this simple task. Anytime I want to take my recorded TV .TS files I cannot edit them quickly without making a full project out of it in Openshot Cinelerra, etc.

Has anyone found a quick, reliable way to do some lite video trimming in Ubuntu and keep A/V sync without having to resort to any Windows programs?

EDIT: Also I really do not want to resort to have to demux separately either. I know I am asking a lot but I got spoiled with a couple of Windows programs that will edit without reencode programs like VideoReDo can do the editing and converting all at once (for $100 !).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio Plays Fine, But The Video Jumps And Can't Get A Clean Picture Except For Maybe 15% Of The Time?

Jan 1, 2010

I have 9.04 and I recently "got" a 13.2GB 1080p HD movie. When I try to play it, it's choppy and mosaic like. The audio plays fine, but the video jumps and I can't get a clean picture except for maybe 15% of the time. I have to hold down the spacebar so it plays and pauses very quickly for the video to even proceed. I've updates VLC and Movie Player and I've downloaded many codecs and I can't seem to fix it.EDIT: I can play it in Movie Player without the pixel/mosaic-like effect, but it too is extremely choppy.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Covert Video File To .asf File Type?

Jan 24, 2011

I want to be able to play a video file on my pda(Tungsten T5) but from memory the only video file i have seen playable on it was the asf file that is used when it starts up/reboots. I tried other file types in the past that were suggested in maybe a manual or forum or something but they never worked/played. I think it is because of the player installed and i tried installing another player but from memory that didn't install properly or just did not play anything. So if anyone knows of a way to convert files maybe using winff or mencoder i would love that info. I have been googling and have found nothing specific to what i am asking. I do not see anything in winff to convert to asf and cannot remember ever using mencoder.

Debian Multimedia :: GDM Goes To Tty On Restart / Doesn't Restart

Apr 5, 2010

Whenever I choose "Restart" from the GDM screen, GDM appears to shutdown, and the first TTY is displayed with a login prompt at the bottom (assuming I haven't used that TTY). I am by no estimation a patient individual, but I waited a solid minute or two for something to happen, but nothing ever did. I end up logging in as root on that TTY and running "shutdown -r now" to get the job done. This is a shared computer, and ideally any user should be able to perform shutdown options graphically from GDM.The only mentioned workaround doesn't apply to me as I am using the nvidia driver, not intel.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video File Says It's Shorter Than It Is?

Aug 13, 2010

I have a video file I pulled off of a disc from a camcorder. The file is in .VOB. If I open the file in anything besides VLC, it says that it is 23 seconds long and will either play only the first 23 seconds or play the whole 15 minutes VERY QUICKLY.

So, if I want to put this file into a video editor, I can't do much with it because it either doesn't play at all, or only plays 23 seconds.

I'm guessing there is some metadata in the file that declares how long it is that VLC is just ignoring. How can I access and change that metadata to its actual length? I fired up a hex editor just to see if I could find the number 23 somewhere in the beginning of the file, but I couldn't..

What is the easiest way to rotate video files (.3gp) and keep it in that state, without losing loads of quality?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Extracting Audio From MP4 Video File

Jul 17, 2010

I'm trying to extract the audio from an mp4 video file and convert it to mp3 using ffmpeg. The problem is that the resulting audio file is only 3m2s long, whereas the video file is 8m15s long. Anyone know why the audio file is being truncated? Am I doing something wrong? Apart from being truncated the mp3 file plays perfectly. Here's what ffmpeg has to say about the video file:

Code:
Seems stream 1 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 59.83 (59834/1000) -> 29.92 (359/12)
Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'Part1.mp4':
Duration: 00:08:15.60, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 541 kb/s
Stream #0.0(und): Audio: aac, 44100 Hz, stereo, s16
Stream #0.1(und): Video: h264, yuv420p, 1152x720, 29.92 tbr, 29.92 tbn, 59.83 tbc

And here's the command I'm using to extract and convert the audio:
Code:
ffmpeg -i Part1.mp4 -ab 128k Part1.mp3
