View 8 Replies View RelatedI have some DVD's that I've saved to my comp as an ISO, in Ubuntu they would play fine in Movie Player or VLC, but I've just tried to play one on Debain Lenny and I have the following issues.
Movie Player:
Will play the video but wont bring up the main menu so that I can select which episode that I want. It won't even skip to the next one, it just starts playing the first.
VLC:
So I then though I'd down the trusted ol' VLC. VLC brings up the main menu but I can't select any thing. It just sits there and playing the menu screen for a bit and my mouse clicks seem to have know effect (except double clicking to change to full screen). Then it starts playing the first one, if I try to skip it goes back to the main menu and starts all over again.
This particular issue I sometimes had in Ubuntu with Movie Player (depending on the ISO) but VLC would still play it fine.
Update:
Just got VLC to run the menu correctly by doing the following:
File => Open Capture Device => File Tab => Browse to the file, select it. => Click OK.
I don't really want to have to do this every time I want to watch a video. Does any one know of a setting that will do this when ever I click on the ISO to play it?
I recently installed fedora and enjoying learning what it can do. One of the things that I wanted to do was play DVDs. I installed vlc and the libvdreader package but am unable to play DVDs. I even used "movie player", and the program said, fedora does not have the right codecs to play the DVD. Does anybody know what I need to do? And what codecs that I need to download if any?
View 9 Replies View Relatedevery time I reboot and play a video file the colours are messed up. I need to manually increase then decrease the hue or saturation to get the picture to normal in smplayer. The colours aren't competely inversed as in the common bug with the totem sliders, they're just far too red and bright.Smplayer is the latest from PPA. I've checked the totem settings and everything is OK. It only takes two key presses to resolve but it's a pain, to be honest, so if anyone knows what causes this and how to fix it permanently I'd be much obliged.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust bought a sony HDR-XR150 high def handycam. Thought since it had a USB connection (no firewire) that it would just mount as a drive and I'd be able to download the videos no problem. Well, it turns out it's a big problem... all the apps capable of talking to video cameras seem to only be able to use firewire. The camera does indeed mount as a drive but none of the video files I found seem to work... I get some video on some of the files from vlc but no sound and nothing seems to be able to transcribe the video. I'm currently on kubuntu 9.10 64 bit (2.6.31-20-generic)
Update: Found a series of .mts files on the camcorder. Nothing would read them properly except kdenlive -- seems to be the only thing that works!
I have a Firefox addon called Download Helper that lets me download many of the videos I see on the internet. Sometimes, I run into something I can't. I'd like to know exactly how to download these files: [URL]. It seems they are encoded with their own player, but mousing over them also brings up Adobe Flash Player 10.0. Download helper normally gets this stuff. Is there a Firefox extension or a program that would let me capture these videos? Or, for that matter, one that could succinctly tell me upon mousing over a video exactly what kind of file it is?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to listen to some of my MP3's to see if they worked. So I double-clicked on one of them and got a message saying "search for suitable plugin?"
I clicked on "search." It then searches plugin packages and tells me to select the packages for installation. The available packages are:
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
I checked off all of them and then clicked "install." I then get a window to "confirm installation of restricted software." I click on confirm and then get a window saying "authenticate to install or remove software, you need to authenticate" and it asks for a password. I'm assuming they mean my login password. I enter my password and click "authenticate" but then nothing happens. The password entry space goes away but the authenticate window remains. I don't know if I'm supposed to manually close it after clicking authenticate. But I tried that. What happens when I close the "authenticate" window is that another window appears saying "applying changes" but then I get a message saying "requires installation of untrusted packages. The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources." View 2 Replies View RelatedI frequent a website features live video streams. Afterwards, they also uploads the videos for playing online. When videos are played Flash files accumulate in /tmp which I save and edit.RECENT PROBLEM:
1) When I play the videos online, they never "start". I just get that typical circling arrow that general indicates the file is downloading to a buffer before playing. but even after 5 minutes...it never starts. While this is happening, a file is accumulating in /tmp.
2) As a test, I tried editing the temp file that appears in /tmp using OpenShot. The file is very large (on the order of 800Mb). But in the editor, only a few seconds of video appear. The rest is a blank white screen. I examined the file in a hex editor and it all "looks" the same (I can't read the Hex of course...but nothing obvious appears like lots of 00 bytes).
As a former TVersity user, I enjoyed being able to remotely access my server on my phone outside of my home network to search for and download/stream songs. The ability to search for a song and download it to my phone (via HTTP) was my favorite feature. Looking through the popular media servers available for Ubuntu Server, I have not found anything that can accomplish this (they are meant to just stream on internal network).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu onto a desktop computer about a month ago. Everything was working well straight away, I had it outputted onto my TV (32 inch Hi Def Sharpe Aquos). The Graphics card is an NVidia Ge Force FX 5600. On installation and after a restart the computer detected the TV and actually gave the name of the TV in the settings automatically, in the system --> Administration Menu there is a programme that sets the resolution and settings for the NVidia card. This all sorted itself automatically and displayed in 1360 x 768 which was perfect on my TV. For some reason when I turned it on this morning it will only display in 640 x 480 or 320 x 240. xrandr only gives minimum of 320 x 240 and maximum as 640 x 480. How to rectify this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new monitor - Viewsonic VA2213w and am trying to set it up with Lucid. The resolution required is 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. I have an NVidia GTS250 with the proprietary driver v195.36.24 installed. I can set the right resolution in the nvidia-settings app, but it will not survive a restart. X always reverts to 1024x768. I have manually edited xorg.conf now to try to force the mode. The GDM login screen displays at the correct resolution, but on logging in X changes the resolution. Xorg.0.log shows the resolution being correctly set to 1920x1080 initially, then right at the end for some reason it is reset to 1024x768.

My resolution ended up being, in the sound preferences, to change the Connector under Output from "Analog Output/Amplifier" to "Analog Mono Output/Amplifier" (No Amplifier works too).
I didn't find this advice anywhere. I was going to give up, and was poking around, and saw the mono options. Since onboard speakers are mono, I gave these choices a try. So, hopefully, this helps someone else. I appreciate this sticky; maybe there should be some information about how to find the appropriate sound settings in the guide ... somewhere in the beginning, around where you should check that your volume is up and your mute is off
This is a quote from sound solutions thread. i had this problem too with ICH6 but now that i have sound i have a new issue. While a normal sound range is 0-100% my sound range is about 0-10% meaning that about if i put my volume on 3% it it as loud as about 30% should be normally.
Since I have done some software updates after moving to ubuntu 11.04 some images are not shown correctly in mozilla firefox. Their colors are blue-green like some effects are applied. it is something like night vision or as in the movie "predator". How can I fix this error?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know that this has probably been around these forms, but still. I recently stumbled upon one .mkv file and I wasn't able to play it in Ubuntu. I'm still not able. Looking at the forums around I see that many folks are able to play .mkv files with ease just running VLC player. So I'm quite confused that I'm not able to. So far I haven't had any problems with neither audio, nor video files in Ubuntu. Anyway, here's what I use: VLC version 1.0.2
(I saw that some folks have been compiling VLC, incluiding specifically the .mkv support, but that was two years ago. Now VLC should support it out of the box...)
And I should have .mkv support in the version of VLC that I have:

When I try to open the .mkv vile in VLC nothing happens. No errors, nothing. And off course neither video, nor audio.
I got a virus through thunderbird and had problems even after I removed it. Thus started over. Used CD to reload windows and then reloaded ubuntu using a CD. In ubuntu can not read CD. It doesn't show on desktop. Is there a program to download?

From what I have read, this is a brand new chipset with the GPU built into the main CPU, as if it were another CPU core. Is there a driver for this yet, or do I have to deal with an improper resolution?

I've tried on and off over the years messing with pulse, esd, etc. output options for vlc, but never figured out exactly how to do this. In Windows, having a batchfile play a .wav at the same time as an mp3 player is playing music "just works" I know there must be a "just works" solution for Linux.
I bought an LG external cd/dvd unit (model: GP08 ).
The problem is that I have no sound when playing DVDs. Everything else works fine. I installed libdvdcss (followed this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ts/PlayingDVDs) but still no sound on DVDs (the DVD works fine on a windows machine).

My newly installed (but not new) DVD drive seems to play some movies some days, but others all the time. I'm pretty sure it's just a little picky about scratches. I can hear it in the drive; when I insert the disk, I can tell when it isn't spinning. When it does start spinning, that's when the Media options window pops up asking me what I want to do with the disk.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing Kubuntu 11.04, I have all of my movies and music on a NAS, everytime I wish to play something (I have a computer hooked up to my tv this is how I play all media) KDE decides it needs to copy it to a tmp file first, I was unable to find a setting to turn this off and allow the file to simply play straight from the network drive as it did in M$ Windblows probably a dumb question.

I google searched for how to play dvds on ubuntu, and a site says basically "just install Totem" and the dvdlib3 (it already has dvdlib4 installed) so I went ahead and installed totem.I launched totem, but there is no option for opening a DVD, there's only Open File. which would mean I'd have to open the vob files, which are very confusing to navigate.
I tried VLC and VLC couldn't run it, so I tried VLC(Windows32 under Wine) and although it worked in the past, it couldn't read the movie either(the movie is Casino Royale and I watched it just fine on my Windows machineis there an easy method to just install some proprietary software that can play movies with a single click? like with the package manager perhaps? I couldn't figure anything out. It seems like Ubuntu should come pre-ready for DVDs and I don't understand why it isn't.
