Have just upgraded to 10.10 using update manager, using firefox playing flash videos works fine untill i try to watch in fullscreen where the video freezes every few minutes although the sound keeps playing.toshiba satellite laptop using Intel, GMA 4500MHDto solve this would be appreciated, really don't won't to have to re-install 10.04 if i can avoid it
View 9 Repliesn an up-to-date kubuntu karmic I experience the following:watching a flash video with adobeflash in firefox in fullscreen mode, randomly the picture freezes while the audio continues. The video unfreezes when I move the mouse, the video then fastforwards to the actual replay position. Video card is nvidia geforce fx5200 on proprietary driver, I have the desktop effects enabled. Any idea what this is about? I discovered the effects causing wine windows to break (no window contents, no foreground, no reaction on mouse) when changing the desktops or minimizing them. Seems like there are some bugs in the window manager / decorator...

Another problem I'm having is that when I turn the volume past 60% using the sound applet on the panel, it gets very distorted. If I open sound preferences, I notice it is in the "amplified" zone at this point, so I have to keep it in the "unamplified" zone, but then it's not loud enough.

Sound continues to drop out of flash in firefox. Reinstalling flash will bring it back, but it will drop out next browser session. All audio works in other applications. Skype, Last.fm, Rhythmbox, Amarok, Movie Player, etc. Even downloaded swf files will play sound. It's just in firefox, from what I can see so far. I don't know if Steve Jobs flying overhead in a black helicopter has anything to do with it, but perhaps.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi've got a mythbuntu 10.10 box connected to my tv; sometimes i want to use it to watch internet tv. owever, when i try to resize videos to full-screen, sometimes black bars intermittently flash across the entire screen. this does not happen when the video is in a window or on the web page, only when going into full-screen mode. unfortunately, on some of these sites, even the "large" in-page video selection is still too small to be comfortably watched from the couch.
i'd suspect it's something with flash, but a similar thing happens when i'm using skype inside a windows xp on vmware. black bars flashing across when in "full-screen" but just fine when zoomed up inside a window. and i don't think vmware video output is flash-based. so it may be something else entirely.
also, this doesn't happen on all internet video - i've only had it happen on video from nbc.com and nfl.com (i haven't really had the opportunity or reason to try many other sites yet), and it was only a little noticeable from the nfl.com but nearly unwatchable from nbc. yet if i go to videos, i have no trouble getting any of their videos running full-screen.
i have an integrated geforce 8200 graphics, and i'm running the nvidia proprietary drivers version 256. i'm not running 260 since its vdpau capability is questionable, and i need that for mythtv. i have a 64-bit system.
does anyone have any ideas regarding this? the fact that i'm getting consistently good results from videos yet consistently bad ones from the tv networks makes me wonder if it's something i'm even going to be able to fix.
As the title implies I can't use the fullscreen feature in a flash video because all the screen turns white &, wherever the pointer was, get noticed as a faint shadow. I can increase the screen only if using the keyboard shortcut <Ctl++> keys combination.Have Shockwave Flash 10.1.r82 add-on. Firefox version is 3.6.8. Ubuntu = 10.0.4 LTS.

i've noticed a problem this morning when watching bbc flash videos on firefox (3.6). whilst the video is playing, firefox is fine and new tabs can be opened. but once you close the tab or window where the video was, firefox freezes and has to force quit. other flash video sites like videos, cnn, sky news, guardian and flash games seem okay and firefox doesn't freeze. bbc videos seem okay on firefox on winxp too. the bbc problem occurs on news video and on iplayer vids.

Sites with flash video content (....., vimeo and the BBC's iplayer site) however don't work as expected: the video track stops while the sound carries on. Pressing the right mouse button in the video player screen makes the video continue immediately, but this is not the expected behaviour! I have also tried with Windows, and it works fine, so it is not a network problem. Audio seems to work fine. I'm attaching the output from lspci and that of Xorg.0.log that appears relevant to the intel driver. code...

View 13 Replies View RelatedMy system just freezes randomly. It happens about once a day, which is really often imho. It usually happens when I'm watching a video in fullscreen and it suddenly stops. I can't alt-tab or escape out of fullscreen, my mouse doesn't work and the keyboard is unresponsive. I'm forced to restart by pressing my computer's power button. This happens in both vlc and kmplayer and it also happened a few times when i was not watching a video. I was just on firefox, browsing the internet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Kubuntu 10.04 and found out that there is no sound for flash in firefox. Also I here no sound when playing local video files (VLC, KMPlayer).
I checked kMix and everything is on. I tried to install pulseaudio, but I am not sure about it. Last time I saw it couldnt connect to some server or what... Although I can hear system sound and Amarok 2 plays mp3. I didnt mention that I tried to install libflashplugin and kubuntu restricted extras.
When I play a flash vid (ex. from .....) I have sound but the entire screen is simply white. When I put my mouse where where the "play/pause" button should be I can click there and they work, but its all white. Flash in chrome works just fine, I use regular ubuntu repos. (ubuntu 10.04 32 bit)

One weird thing is that ..... videos work perfectly when tagged/embedded in another site, such as facebook or a gmail chat, but on the ..... official site I can't see a thing.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm using ubuntu since 8.04, and the current (9.10) is a fresh install on new hdd.the problem was the same each version (8.04, 8.10, 9.04, 9.10) - while i'm playing the video (no matter if i use mplayer [smplayer], gstreamer [totem] or adobe flash plugin [videos]) the playback freezes randomly for about 5-10 sec. during the freeze the movie is still played, i can hear the sound is ok. if i press [space] in smplayer it pauses the playback, so the responses for keyboard actions are ok. not for the mouse clicks however. i can still move the cursor around the screen but it seems the system is not aware of it (clicking on the "pause" button doesnt pause the movie). except the cursor, nothing changes on the screen (if the im [pidgin] window was blinking because of new message, it freezes etc etc).
is there any kind of log i could look into just to try figuring out the problem?it is impossible to watch any movie on my pc (currently i don't have tv)i installed windows on external hdd once and it played videos fine so i suppose it's not hardware problem .
When I play a fullscreen flash video, it works fine the first time I open it, and then after that if I close it and open it again it appears, behind all my other windows, including firefox, gnome-panel, and glx-dock. This only happens under compiz - metacity is fine. This is all because I let my little brother play with compiz settings. I don't know if Linux is ready for the home user, but it certainly isn't ready for my brother.

My system currently has two working sound cards, the one integrated into my motherboard and the other is a USB Logitech headset. After installation, the speakers were set as my default output device which I did not want. I was able to move all the sounds over to the USB headset using phonon. While Amarok works, videos work (downloaded, wmv, avi, divx, etc) I cannot get flash video to work in Firefox. I set up my prefered device as the USB headset for everything in Phonon, but still the sound will only come out of my integrated soundcard (speakers). I'm not sure what exactly I am missing, I set everything up, but still it's a no go. What switch did I miss? I haven't used Kubuntu for a while, but i'm pretty sure this worked fine in Ubuntu 9.04 (when I last used it).

View 3 Replies View RelatedVLC which didn't exist before (possibly due to some updates) When viewing a video file (say an .avi file so it has nothing to do with flash)in maximized windows or full screen, playback becomes very slow and sometimes freezes momentarily (with the screen turning grey) On the other hand, if I open the same file in a small screen and then strech it out to the size of a maximized windows everything is fine. I don't notice anything extraordinary in terms of cpu or memory usage (from running top in the terminal) when this happens.
This problem only happens with VLC, Banshee has no problem playing these same files in full screen. I use Compiz, disabling Compiz stops VLC from freezing but it still seems a bit sluggish in full screen. I used to be able to play videos with VLC in full screen AND with Compiz on.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04. VLC is working fine in 10.10 on the same machine.
I have a ATI radeon x1550 video card flash run slow (very low fps) but didn't crash I installed x.org/fglrx-amdcccle flash runs very nice but crashes on full screen.
I've searched and tried flash-aid and reinstalling flash nether worked. I've also removed x.org/fglrx-amdcccle and it stopped the crashing but made the videos unwatchable (low fps).

I am using lucid and the adobe-flashplugin 10 package. When I watch programmes in fullscreen on the BBC iPlayer or Channel4-on-demand player it works fine but switches back to windowed mode after about 5 or 10 minutes. I put it back into fullscreen and the same thing happens after the same sort of time. I read this thread about flash switching out of fullscreen when the volume is adjusted, but I'm not adjusting the volume...how can I fix this?

I have heard that flash is slower in linux, but here's the thing I have an old live cd for a distro called artistx, I think I burned in 2008, and I remember watching flash videos fine on it. I put it in the pc just to test it and then after it booted I went to ..... and watched the same video in 480p and fullscreen and it played back smoothly. Has flash gotten slower or is it ubuntu?

Now I can't watch full screen video's online which is not the problem as it's always been like this with every distro I've used but now I can't even watch full screen videos in VLC, totem or any other media player for that matter, it'll either lag or completely freeze my system and this worked in Lubuntu fine

Every once in a while, clicking the fullscreen icon on a Flash video will result in the video playback overlay appearing behind the actual browser requiring the browser to be minimised to see the video.
