Ubuntu Multimedia :: Setup Audacity To Record From Line-in?

Mar 5, 2011

I am trying to get Audacity to record from a line in. Seems like it should be a fairly easy setup. I discovered that Audacity needs PulseAudio. So I installed that, and don't know how to configure it. I set the sound preferences >> Input to line in. I am using a desktop that has a line-in on the front and back, so I'm not sure which it will pick up, so I have been testing both.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audacity / Record In Audacity In 8.10 64 Bit On A Dell Studio 1535?

May 10, 2010

I am trying to record in Audacity in Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit on a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. The problem is not that its not recording, per se.Rather, the problem is its not recording the way that I want it to.

Its recording from the built-in mic, and I want to use the mic jack instead as a line in from a guitar (well, technically, an acoustic-electric resonator, but its close enough to a guitar to call it a guitar).

I have tried using various devices for recording, and changing settings in both the Volume Control and Sound Preferences, but no matter what I do, Audacity still records from my built-in microphones, instead of from the line-in.

Debian :: Audacity Record Sound System?

I've found somewhere on the forum I need to check whether "wave" in alsamixer is not muted. There is another posibility: change source in audacity to "wave". There is no option like this in my program and I don't know where can I find that "wave" in alsamixer. I don't use any like artsd, jack... Just alsa + fluxbox + audacity.

General :: Audio - Can't Hear It But Audacity Can Record It

Jul 13, 2010

I've installed a tv card but I can't hear the sound through my built-in CMedia soundcard when I watch tv with TVTime. The tv card's audio output is externally connected to my soundcard's line in input. In the 'Input' tab of the 'Sound Preferences' dialog, I can see the input level meter moving.

Audacity can record the tv sound, and I can hear it when I have the 'pass-through' option enabled, or when I play the recording.

I can play media files without a problem, and I can hear the system sounds.

But for some reason I can't get the tv sound to go through to the soundcard's output.

Obviously I've got the audio configured wrong, but I don't know what to do to fix it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Record From Line-in - SB Audigy LS

Oct 16, 2010

I am trying to record some vinyl using Audacity. I'm using Lucid 10.04 with a Soundblaster Audigy LS card. Regular sound playback works. Recording from the mic works. I just can't get anything to record from the line in. Everything is hooked up correctly. I can hear the music through the computer speakers. I booted into Windows and was able to record with Audacity just fine there. I can't get Audacity (or sound recorder) to show and record any input in Ubuntu. I've messed with every setting I can find in Audacity. I've also messed around with the settings in the GNOME ALSA mixer and sound properties. The most I can get to record is some static in the left channel.

Fedora :: Audacity Unable To Record Sound From Soundcard

Jul 6, 2011

I'm running Fedora 15 XFCE spin, Audacity 1.3.13-beta and my sound is ALSA/Pulseaudio (I'm not totally sure what these are anyway, are they drivers?) Anyway, when I'm in Audacity and I go to the record options I can choose from default, pulse, and HDA ATI SB:ALC268 Analog (hw:0,0). If I try any of these three options and press record I get static. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like to press record for each of the three options in order.

[URL]

The last option won't even record nothing, it just doesn't work. Also, if you look where the little picture of the microphone is, the option to drag the input volume is greyed out.

I run Kubuntu 11.04 and I have a C-Media CM8738 sound card. My problem is, my card won't record from the line-in jack, even when I set it to capture in alsamixer. Furthermore, the mic jack only records when both the line-in and the mic are set to capture in alsamixer. I'm using the same settings I used in 10.04, and the line-in captured fine then.

Debian Multimedia :: SOUND - Line In Works But Doesn't Appear In Gnome Setup

Jun 4, 2015

I am runnig Jessie with the default GNOME. Every thing has been perfectly smooth, but for the audio line in. First you should now the same hardware was working well with Wheezy. Then the hardware card is RealTek ALC887-VD and I am using the analogic part (both for in and out lines).

Below I will write some command results, but first, it seems important to describe the problem. I can hear the audio line in. If I blow in a mic, I definitelly hear the sound of it in the output. With alsamixer I can toggle the line in level and it works fine. By the way, with pavucontrol, it is the same I have access to the line in. but when I look in the Gnome setting for the sound, input, no card is available, then no volume setting is available.

--> as a result, I can't record the sound from the mic. it is sent directly to the output without been taken into account in the system. So no comment on video making, no skype …

On the web, the problem is always "no sound with this card" "No sound after upgrade to Jessie"… but Card is working fine but no seen on a upper level…

Ubuntu / Apple :: Unable To Record Line In Recordings

Sep 30, 2010

I have a few posts open regarding the problems I have discovered after installing Ubuntu 10.04 dual boot on my iMac. I am sure I have all the necessary drivers restricted extras etc... installed and still three problems continue. These are problems that I would have assumed would work properly.

1. Unable to record Line In Recordings

2. Unable to use the built in web cam. Doesn't work at all

3. Unable to play any videos at all be they avi, mov files as an example. VLC won't even open them, Movie Player crashes when viewing full screen.

I have a feeling that getting Ubuntu to work on a Mac is way more difficult than getting it to work on a PC and I think it may be because of Apple's proprietary software.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Get Audacity To Work With Pod

Aug 10, 2010

I've been trying to learn how to record my guitar parts onto Audacity using my Pod XT.I've always used Audacity to do my audio recordings since its much more user friendly than Ardour and just as capable IMO.However, I cannot get Audacity to work with the Pod.I downloaded the "line6-usb-source" using apt-get.Ubuntu seems to recognize the Pod and get a signal just fine (when I go to "Sound Preferences" it allows me to select the Pod XT as input hardware and even shows an incoming signal). When I go to Audacity's preferences,it allows me to select the Pod as the "Recording Device", however when I go to record it gives me an error saying to check the Project Sample Rate.

Does the Pod not output at 44100 Hz?Is there a way to change the sample rate the Pod puts out?Is there another setting in Audacity I need to adjust?I do not want to wine or emulate anything.I feel I shouldn't have to use a specific audio recording software to use a piece of a hardware I paid good money for.

General :: Unable To Record Audio From Line In?

Oct 13, 2010

After trying Kubuntu live CD, Fedora live CD, and booting from my Ubuntu partition on my iMac, I am convinced that there is no solution at all to the problems I am having recording from Line In. Using the same radio hooked up to an old Dell PC which I am selling, recording works fine. I can see the audio signal when I go to sound preferences and click on the Input tab. Works great.

I beleive that Ubuntu just isn't compatible with the sound card in the iMac. This is too bad because I was really hoping that I could use Ubuntu dual boot on my Mac. Running Ubuntu in emulation works fine using VMware Fusion but dual boot really sucks. Unless I hear back from someone who actually is running Ubuntu dual boot on an imac and can record from the Line In.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audacity Not Recognizing FFmpeg?

Jan 17, 2010

I installed Audacity to convert an mp4 to an mp3. Now, I don't necessarily need Audacity to do this, but for the time being I'm more concerned with getting Audacity to work properly as opposed to getting an mp3 onto my iPod.

In Audacity, I went to Edit>Preferences>Libraries. For the MP3 Export Library, Audacity recognizes LAME, but under the FFmpeg Import/Export Library it says "FFmpeg library not found." I hit the Download button and read this page on how to install FFmpeg, noticing the warning about needing FFmpeg 0.5 or later on Linux.

I fired up Synaptic and searched for "ffmpeg," chose the vanilla version and installed it along with two dependencies which I don't exactly remember but I bet they were libavformat52 and libavdevice52.

Back in the Audacity Preferences window I chose the "Locate..." button to point to the newly installed libraries, but Audacity is not recognizing/installing them successfully. I've tried pointing to the following files:

/usr/lib/libavformat.so.52
/usr/lib/libavformat.so.52.36.0
/usr/lib/i686/cmov/libavformat.so.52
/usr/lib/i686/cmov/libavformat.so.52.36.0
/usr/share/lintian/overrides/libavformat52

[Code]....

Did I install the wrong version of FFmpeg or libavformat? Any pointers?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audacity And Combining MP3 Files?

Mar 1, 2010

So I asked around and to combine audio files apparently I want to use Audacity.

It seems easy enough to LAYER audio files, but how do you string them together in sequence? I have an audiobook divided into 5 minute chapters and I want to combine them into longer chapters....my MP3 player likes to play them out of order which makes them difficult to listen to. I want to make it 1 long tract, or maybe 6 medium length tracks.

How do I combine tracks with Audacity...Not layering them but putting them in order into 1 long track?
