Ubuntu Multimedia :: Opening Vlc On Natty It Checks Or Stutters?
Jun 18, 2011
for an instant as you just start afterwards audio and video are NOT quite in sync this happens most of the time but not all of the time using natty 64-bit with two-flower 1.2 vlc version.

Playing videos in ....., etc, is not working. The sound will play for around 30 seconds and then stop. The video will keep playing. I have installed Opera and Google Chrome and the same thing happens in those browsers as well. I have the latest flash plugin installed.when I switch to another user account on the same computer, the video plays just fine, with sound, all the way through.

I am having the following problem, and it has been persisent over several distros.
Often, when presented with a nautilus window, and asked to drill-down to select a file, the window will not completely open, leaving the 'Open' and 'Cancel' buttons invisible below the lower gnome-panel. I will then have to click the maximize button, to get the window to fill the screen and make the 'Open' and 'Cancel' buttons visible. This also seems to happen with some of my apps...
For instance, I never have this problem with Firefox, but I always seem to have it with Ubuntu-Tweak, and some other apps. This 'appears' to be happening randomly, although it could be related to 'inode-meta-data' about the window state not getting updated.

although VLC playback triggers it, I suspect it's actually a kernel problem. After moving from 10.04 x64 to 10.10 x64, I've been noticing the following problem: When watching a DVD .iso using VLC Media Player, the system will become "jerky" and "stutter" after a random amount of smooth playback. At that point, the only way to make the system smooth and responsive again is a hard restart (normal shutdown hangs and refuses to complete).where I can start looking to find where the bug lies? My laptop is an Acer Aspire 6930 with 10.10 x64 and the current NVidia display driver.

First things first: I'm running F12 KDE and yum informs me that I'm fully up to dateI'm having a problem where the second sound that my computer plays stutters - this is best seen in amarok, the first track will play fine but the second track will stutter and play really slowly. I asked on IRC and the suggestion came back that it was possibly due to this bug[URL]

I'm having some troubles playing hd videos (720p) on my laptop with ubuntu 10.04 installed. I have a dell inspiron 1720 with 4gb ram, dualcore 2,5ghz and a gforce 8600m card so it shouldnt have problem with playback.I have installed restricted extra package and activated the nvidia driver from the additional driver menu. I have tried using both firefox and chrome for hd ..... content and both media player and vlc for 720p files on my harddrive. All of the above perform horribly (~1 fps). Low definition videos plays smoothly though.

First off, I'll come clean and admit that I am still relatively green to Linux, but I'm not afraid to tackle the complex. I have a few stroke-inducing issues that I haven't been able to resolve as a usually do by eye-grepping Google and the various forums. Of course, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity - which is fairly new and undiscovered country.
I've got this no-name brand, sample laptop from a manufacturing partner of ours out of Shenzhen China. It's rocking a Core i3 M350 with an nVidia GT 330M (discreet-ish?)& apparently some flavor of Intel integrated graphics.
Now, there are so many variables at play, I'm not quite sure where to begin - so please bear with this post a bit longer as I unravel the details. Loading the nVidia drivers (both proprietary and the experimental open varieties) results in Unity no longer working and dumping me back to the classic Ubuntu desktop. I believe it has something to do with the fact that I have no ability to disable the integrated graphics through the BIOS and Ubuntu has set its hopes and dreams upon using Intel graphics for the rest of all time.
That said, running without the nVidia graphics drivers, I am able to use Unity and it runs pretty well. The only caveat being that on occasion (read: intermittently), when the laptop wakes up from suspend/hibernate mode, playing Flash video in full screen gets choppy (stutters). Restarting Ubuntu resolves the issue. I suppose I should verify that I am using Firefox 4.
In addition, there are times that the WiFi adapter will not wake, and using the keyboard function key to power cycle it ceases to function. A complete shutdown is required to address this one. i.e. Restarting and warm-booting does not fix it.
Did I mention Skype is a terd? I don't actually expect a fix for this pile of hot mess - just thought it might make someone laugh. If there is anyone here that could lend me a hand with any or all of these issues, not only will you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are one bad Mambajamba (TM), but I'll buy you a drink or something via Dwolla or bitcoin.

so i don't know what happened, but all multimedia files are suddenly speed up/and-or with no sound (ubuntu 11.04 with all recent updates, firefox 4, adobe flash-instick etc.)
if i try to play a flash movie on for instance videos it's sped-up with no sound, if i play an mp3 song (i use exaile) the bar is sped up and there's no sound either, if i start an avi movie (vlc) it's not sped up but there's no sound though.
when i log in to the system the logging in jingle is not playing, so basically the sound just got turned off for some reason but according to the soundbar it should be on.
this problem started just recently. i don't know if it has to do with recent updates or that my log in re-started a couple of times after using a kde program (kmess).

I'm piping stdout from mplayer to awk, but the output stutters.
Code: Select allmplayer audiofile.m4a 2>&1 | awk -vRS="
" '$1 ~ /A:/ {print $0; fflush();}'
Instead of a steady output of lines to the terminal, output only occurs after a few seconds, between 6 or 12. This happens whether the input is from mplayer or avconv/ffmpeg. This never used to happen (a few years ago) so I wondered whether an awk update caused this to happen.

my mythfrontend make a horrible pop when opening a av file no matter what app I use. I have edited the last 2 lines in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf as per[URL].. and it has reduced by not doing it when I change channels but when I close and open myth or xbmc or vlc it still does it? I am using a 5.1 surround system connected by 1/4 inch plugs and rca adaptors I dont know how to configure alsa for 5.1 either? as The volume levels are not there ike in my other pc's however windows runs 5.1 on the same pc perfectly I think it has something to do with the duality of the plugs (ie they can be line input, micropone input or subwoofer output, centre speaker s urround left and surround right.

Whenever I open Rhythmbox, it looks like it is about to work, but crashes. I get this when I run it from the command line.
Code:
** (rhythmbox:3002): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed
[code]....
I found out that this was just a problem of having a certain album ripped, so this does not happen any more.

I have a wav file bigger than 8GB. i recorded it on a windows PC. unfortunately wav files cant be bigger than 2GB. somehow i got a file that is almost 9GB. I tried to chop the file under ubuntu into smaller pieces to open it part by part. i used gnome split to divide the file and made 10 parts out of it. now i have these parts of the data which i cant read with no program except for gnome split to merge them together again - which would only bring me to the beginning of my problem. so my question is: is there any other way to open/ split&open a wav file of that size or maybe a way to open the splitted file partially?

I've tried installing the BBC iplayer desktop, and am currently working my way through the maze of adobe air installer etc.
I wondered if it is possible to view the downloaded programs in a different viewer. I've got both Movie Player and VLC media player installed, but they will both only play for 1/2 second, then the program closes.
Is it possible, or must I persevere with BBC desktop iplayer ?

Having finally got comfortable with ManDVD, but only having used it for a couple of weeks, I've had to get my head around something new, AGAIN, after finding that ManDVD is not yet available for Natty.
From what I have googled, there are one or two ways around it, but it means building a version, and quite honestly, I'm over that crap now, and all I want is to install and use.
Thankfully, I still have a pc with Shrink, Fab and Nero still installed.

This is an Acer Aspire 5720, with a "Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller". Although I initially though this was a problem with my installation, so I ran both the Maverick and recent Natty live cds and the s video out only functioned on the Maverick cd. The computer acts as if there is another monitor, but the TV does not display one.

First you need to download the source code from [URL]
Next you need to make sure you have all the dependencies in order to complete the build. All of the dependencies can be acquired with apt as usual.
Dependencies:
libtool
automake
libgraphicsmagick1-dev
libjasper-dev
libgtkhtml2-dev
libgpgme11-dev
[Code]......
Hopefully if all went well then Gyachi should be installed in /usr/local/gyachi unless you specified a prefix option to configure. Now you can run the Gyachi program from the shell or your menu.

So after my Natty upgrade, mpd stopped working. All I can see in the logs are the following lines:
No protocol specifiedxcb_connection_has_error() returned true The Pulse Audio wiki suggests that this might be an access rights problem: [URL]...hts_are_broken I tried that, but with no success.
Anyone else had this problem? And any ideas about how I can diagnose and fix this?

Something went wrong during my upgrade to Natty two weeks ago and I had to do a fresh install. I've been trying to play Wii (using a Dazzle DVC 100) via VLC, which used to work just fine. Please refer to the attached screen print. Now, the video comes out okay, but there is no audio. I've tried playing around with the name of the audio device (hw:1,0 for example), but it still doesn't work.
I've also tried video capture with Lavrec, but it gives me this error: [lavrec] Error initializing Audio: Audio task died. Reason: Error /dev/dsp - No such file or directory
Could this be related to my other problem? I've looked in the /dev folder and, indeed dsp is not there, nor is there a dsp0,1,2, etc. Sound is working fine for everything else, though. I've Googled and tried some suggestions, but nothing has worked for me. BTW, I did an Ubuntu minimal installation, so I might have missed or forgotten to install something. I have installed the gstreamer good, bad and ugly plugins.
