Ubuntu Multimedia :: Finding A Software For Mediacenter?

Sep 24, 2010

I recently changed hardware in my gaming pc, and am now left with a bunch of loose parts, from which I intend to build a mediacenter. what software is most suited for below mentioned needs.

- recording tv from dvb-c tuner, HD support preferable
- play video, foto and music from my NAS
- browser for renting moviestreams, showing NFL Gamepass, ..... etc.

My own suggestion is Ubuntu 10.04/10 with added MythTV, but I would like your opinion if this is the best sollution or if something else would make my life easier.

My hardware is:

CPU: Intel core2dou E8500
MB: Asus P5G41-M
TV-tuner: TerraTec Cinergy C PCI, HD-Support

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mediacenter With NVIDIA H264 Hardware Decoding?

Jun 8, 2011

I've setup a EEEBox 1501P exclusively to work as a Media Center. So i've picked up Ubuntu 11.04 x64, and Boxee x64 (latest), and installed the nVIDIA drivers directly from site. The problem is that video playback at 720p is a bit sloppy! I've tried on VLC player for example, and the CPU cores are at 10%. But when i use Boxee, one core gets stuck at 100%, and the others at 10%.

So this means that currently, boxee, cannot handle hardware acceleration in x86_64 Linux! My question is:What software can I use to set-up my Ubuntu-based Media Center?

I'm using the default Totem movie player to play all my mp3s. However, because I listen to a lot of podcasts(some over an hour in length), I'm looking for some kind of media player that makes it easy to navigate through long audio files. For example Winamp has global hotkeys that allow you to jump forward or backward by 30 seconds (something like that).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmweb Bluetooth/Wifi Finding Issues

Sep 2, 2010

I recently installed the Rhythmweb plugin. I can go to http://localhost:8000 on my own machine and control it that way, so I know that functions properly. My issue is my phone finding the correct path. I have it bluetooth synced, with the laptop device's name being "peter-laptop" (I reset it to the default just for clarity's sake), and my laptop and phone are both on the same wifi network as well.

I have tried many variants of peter-laptop.local:8000 and peter-laptop:8000 but no luck, in opera or the default blackberry browser.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Finding A Application To Play Dvd's?

Aug 3, 2011

I have all multimedia packages installed as the instructions of opensuse site (ffmpeg, libdvdcss, ...) and plus some others not mentioned there (gstreamer, libav ...).Recently I was watching a dvd in kaffeine but several times the video and audio had small stops of about one or half second. It even came to the point of skipping a bit of the video. I tried vlc and the same thing happenned up to a point where the video froze at all. Also in other dvd's, when I tried to watch the content of a menu option vlc skipped the first few second of that scene before playing it. I tried smplayer and the exhibition of video was perfect except by the fact that it don't recognize dvd menus and subtitles. All mplayer gui's don't recognize them.So what player available for opensuse is able to recognize menus, subtitles and at the same time play dvd movies without other problems?
