I'm trying to create a DVD with K3b, I encoded a DIVx MP4 file to vob, but i need to create the iFO and BUP files if that is correct? is it possible in any way to create iFO & BUP files?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI received a popcorn hour set top box for Xmas, and I am trying to figure out the best way to convert my extensive DVD collection to MKV files to play on the PCH.
I know I could just create an ISO of the DVD, but that would take up 4-8 gig per movie, where from what I've read, MKV offers GREAT audio and video quality at a fraction of the space.
Is there any software packages out there for linux that would allow me to rip my DVD's to MKV? if so, will they allow me to just rip the movie part of the disc, and not the extra's or menu?
Is there any easy-to-use program for ubuntu like handbrake or autogk for windows?
Or which software do you think is the best for creating avi or mkv files on linux?
I have tried a few methods and have not been able to burn a dvd yet. I can create the files that would go on the dvd. I first created a slide show using OpenShot. I saved it as a avi. First off, is this the correct format? Also, I have other files from other methods that end in .mov. Is this the correct format?
Can I combine the two formats of .avi and .mov on the same dvd ( have not even gotten to this point yet, but figured I might as well ask up front )? To burn the dvd, I tried qdvdauthor. It crashed on me after I autogrouped two files. Also, I tried k3b and DeVeDe. I was able to create files, but I still could not get them onto a dvd. I tried to take the files from k3b and DeVeDe and create a DVD in Brasero. Brasero just closes. No error, no success message.
How do I get files on a dvd in Ubuntu? I would even be happy with tutorials or links of software that was worked. Also, I will don't know how to get an audio cd burned in Ubuntu yet.
I am using the following command to create a video of a bunch of jpeg files. The problem is that some of the jpegs are portrait and others are landscape. Ffmpeg is stretching the portrait images. Is it possible to maintain aspect ratio of the jpegs... perhaps put black bars on the portrait images using ffmpeg?

I am playing around with RH for the first time. I have two applications which insist on using names for network ranges - so they need /etc/networks. I created one on the RH box as suggested via google but the apps still cant see the names (basically they are not reading /etc/networks). What is the correct process to create network names on RH? Basically the equivalent of solaris /etc/networks?

If someone installs debian with desktop environment this user probably also want to use the desktop as a workplace, so why is that not a default setting?

I've got a small issue that when a Windows user creates a new folder through Windows Explorer (from the menu or by right clicking) the new folder is only accessible to that particular user. Example: user SABKAR (member of the HR group) creates a new folder called MarcTestMenu in a shared Samba directory through Windows Explorer:

The only thread on creating a contact sheet appears to be years old & locked:- (photography) how to create a single jpg /tif contact sheet? So may I ask what's the most common method today of creating a set of contact sheets of a directory of, say, 500 photos (on Ubuntu 10.04 lucid)? The only thing I really want to specify is the grid (e.g., 4 photos by 6 photos, or something like that).

What do YOU use to create a decent contact sheet set out of a large directory of photos?
I'm looking for a script or a bittorrent client which is able to move a file after downloading and placing it in a specific folder depending on the file type. E.g. moving a newly downloaded movie to "Videos" and an ISO-file to "Files".
I feel as if i have used a client with this functionality before but can't remember the name.
Since I at the moment use Transmission as my bittorrent client a script would also work since Transmission can run it after finishing the download.
After adding what I thought were the correct entries in /etc/sudoers so I'd be able to run commands without needing to sudo them, I keep having to. My sudoers file entries look like this:

There doesn't seem to be any documentation for K3b (building the index doesn't do squat and the help says "The file or folder help:/k3b/index.html does not exist"). View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu onto a desktop computer about a month ago. Everything was working well straight away, I had it outputted onto my TV (32 inch Hi Def Sharpe Aquos). The Graphics card is an NVidia Ge Force FX 5600. On installation and after a restart the computer detected the TV and actually gave the name of the TV in the settings automatically, in the system --> Administration Menu there is a programme that sets the resolution and settings for the NVidia card. This all sorted itself automatically and displayed in 1360 x 768 which was perfect on my TV. For some reason when I turned it on this morning it will only display in 640 x 480 or 320 x 240. xrandr only gives minimum of 320 x 240 and maximum as 640 x 480. How to rectify this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new monitor - Viewsonic VA2213w and am trying to set it up with Lucid. The resolution required is 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. I have an NVidia GTS250 with the proprietary driver v195.36.24 installed. I can set the right resolution in the nvidia-settings app, but it will not survive a restart. X always reverts to 1024x768. I have manually edited xorg.conf now to try to force the mode. The GDM login screen displays at the correct resolution, but on logging in X changes the resolution. Xorg.0.log shows the resolution being correctly set to 1920x1080 initially, then right at the end for some reason it is reset to 1024x768.

My resolution ended up being, in the sound preferences, to change the Connector under Output from "Analog Output/Amplifier" to "Analog Mono Output/Amplifier" (No Amplifier works too).
I didn't find this advice anywhere. I was going to give up, and was poking around, and saw the mono options. Since onboard speakers are mono, I gave these choices a try. So, hopefully, this helps someone else. I appreciate this sticky; maybe there should be some information about how to find the appropriate sound settings in the guide ... somewhere in the beginning, around where you should check that your volume is up and your mute is off
This is a quote from sound solutions thread. i had this problem too with ICH6 but now that i have sound i have a new issue. While a normal sound range is 0-100% my sound range is about 0-10% meaning that about if i put my volume on 3% it it as loud as about 30% should be normally.
Since I have done some software updates after moving to ubuntu 11.04 some images are not shown correctly in mozilla firefox. Their colors are blue-green like some effects are applied. it is something like night vision or as in the movie "predator". How can I fix this error?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded both versions of Fedora 11 (Gnome and KDE) to iso files on my hard disk - in Windows XP. I then tried the verification procedure advised in [URL]... section 3.1. I have successfully installed and run hashcalc, with the SHA1 option, and got the following results:
- for the Gnome version : 795b52b3c7b16eba6f2cae055ec894d8648d8095
- for the KDE version : 38ef6c97e29803add28d40add05aa025b6f4c92b.
But I can't find any SHA1SUM files to give me the correct character sequences against which to compare the said results.
FINALLY got my personal server up and running again after my GPU's fan died. i rigged a new fan/heatsink on it but i can't seem to get the resolution correct. nvidia-settings (version 195.36.31) says 1280x960 but i have to pan around the entire desktop (like having a huge image zoomed in on a small screen).

It should be displaying at 1440x900, but the highest resolution I can select from the displays configuration panel is 1366x768, which is not even the correct aspect ratio.

From what I have read, this is a brand new chipset with the GPU built into the main CPU, as if it were another CPU core. Is there a driver for this yet, or do I have to deal with an improper resolution?
I have now installed a radeon 9250l display board. I followed the Ubuntu Radeon documentation page. It tells me that 3d is supported. I am not sure that 3d is correct or running. I've got Ubuntu 10.04 installed.Ripping the MP3s with Sound Juicer is no problem, but my MP3 player doesn't recognize artist or album names, putting it under "Unknown artist" and "Unknown album". The song names appear correct, but the songs are in the wrong order. In the Sound Juicer interface, the album title and artist are correctly detected and displayed.
I assume this is an ID3 tag problem. I could get the process working perfectly with Grip earlier when using Mandriva, but now I'm on Ubuntu and Grip isn't in the repository. I tried with RipperX, which appears to do the correct thing, but seems to crash, and only sets the correct tags for the first few songs (for this particular CD).The mp3 setup in Sound Juicer is as follows: audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-quality=6 ! id3v2mux
