View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I have compiled a C# program on Linux using MonoDevelop. When I try to execute the resulting binary, my system tries and fails to run it as a windows executable, with wine. Wine gives me the following message:
$ ~/bin/MyMonoApp
wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
~/bin/MyMonoApp: command not found
I can only convince it to run by explicitly calling mono:
$ mono ~/bin/MyMonoApp
So, how can I make this the default, so I don't have to explicitly call mono every time?
I would like to know if anyone has run more than one version of mono concurrently. I want to host a Battlefield 2 server with bf2ccd that requires mono 1.1.12. CentOS 5.3 repos provide mono 1.2.4 which is neither new enough nor old enough to support bf2ccd. I have considered compiling a newer version or an older version to accommodate this but I think that the only fully supported version is the 1.1.12 and I want to have the newer mono for other projects. I have used Slackware exclusively up to now and am not familiar with CentOS yet so I would like to avoid compiling if I can. The server is an unmanaged dedicated server so I'm not certain of all of the details. AFAIK it is a standard CentOS 5.3 install.

i'm new to ubuntu, this is the second time i've installed it (i had enough of xp). with careful planning and thinking, i managed to get a few things working, like high resolution, java plugin, and flash. but there's a problem i encountered during listening to music: my headphone has only sound in the left speaker. i took a glance at system>preferences>sound, and i tried a couple options, but nothing worked.
some generic information:
- i have an integrated sound card (into an abit kd7 motherboard).
- my headphone is a thomson wpd265, which is working perfectly.
- neither videos, nor .flac audio plays in stereo.
i tried to google the problem, but this thing seems to be a bit rare. i'm sure this problem is related to software, since everything went fine under different circumstances (xp). it turns out that neither the speaker system is working - only the front left works from the five, and 5.1 output laggs.
I've had this problem on ubuntu before, and I remember that I had to install a program from synaptics package manager and change the noise removal settings. This worked on someone else's mono mic, and I'm wondering if anyone knows which program changes the system setting for noise cancellation.

I recently got a real fancy unidirectional microphone, but when I go and use it, something strange happens. The mic is a mono mic, but when I record something, it appears to think it's stereo. Instead of having the same thing on both channels, it puts it all in the left channel, and silence on the right channel.
I tried fiddling with alsamixer. In capture (F4), adjusting the "Capture" device has an effect. However, it doesn't do anything useful. Lowering the right channel to zero does nothing, lowering the left channel to zero creates silence, and disabling the right channel creates silence.
In my System>Preferences>Sound (or pavucontrol, or what-have-you), there are "Analog Stereo Input" and "Analog Stereo Duplex" options there, but no "Analog Mono Input" or "Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input" options (the latter being ideal).
Something interesting, though, if I do this:

it works correctly and outputs on both channels. But if I do

arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 2 -vv -V stereo /dev/null
then it's back to the same behavior. The VU meter on the second command shows the left channel going up and down as I make noise, but the right one always at zero.
The machine does have a crap internal mic built in to the screen bezel. If I do either of the above commands, they both work correctly. The stereo VU shows the same activity for both channels.
The machine is a Eee 1015PED, which has Intel integrated sound. Something probably insignificant is that the mic has a 1/4 inch mono plug, and to get it to plug into the Eee, I needed to get a 1/4 female to 1/8 male adapter. The mic's 1/4 plug is mono (duh) and therefore two-conductor, but the adapter I got is stereo, or three conductor (L, R, GND). I don't know if this is tripping something in hardware to tell it it's stereo or something.
I tried the mic on my desktop, which has a SB Audigy 4 (the non-pro flavor) and that has the "Analog Mono Input" function, so that works fine. Is there some way to turn this stereo input into mono input?
I've searched but I can't seem to find something that is specific to what I'm looking for. I need to create an ISO from a VIDEO_TS folder on my hard drive. How would I go about that?

Ideally, it should be possible to connect it to external MIDI device for recording and playing back the recorded notes.This would go something like this: I set up a rhythm, say, 4/4, and I hear metronome sound that hints about the pace. I have a percussion voice selected on my synth, and whenever I press a key on the keyboard, that sound is recorded on my PC, registering it's position in the pattern. PC is repeatedly playing back the recorded sequence, so I can enrich the beat with more and more instruments. When the job is done, I'd save the created sequence in MID file, and use it later.
I have installed Rosegarden on my Ubuntu, and it might well be that it has such mode that does exactly what I'm looking for, but since Rosegarden doesn't seem to have official forum (only newslist, but I am now reluctant to sign me up to just another newslist), I wanted to check in this forum, maybe someone knows right away. At least, I have succeeded playing MID files via Rosegarden to my synth,and recording from synth to the Rosegarden interface, and save the result in MID file.

But I would like to create a script for nautilus where I select my picture and then create a panoramic without any questions.I guess it's possible but I can't find on google, each time I find something about hugin.Is it possible to call from the command line and hide the interface during the process ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been interested in Synfig for a while. In the last version of Ubuntu, there were some problems so I couldn't install it. Yesterday I remembered the program and decided to try it on 9.10. I was amazed, it installed fine and everything worked just how it should. Then later last night, I must have done something because everything turned invisible and when I created a new layer or shape, nothing new appeared.
I fiddled with it for a while and then reinstalled the program a total of like 3 times just in case that would help. Then, I went straight to the Synfig site and downloaded the newest version. It looked better, different, but it behaved exactly the same. I'm very confused and I would like to use Synfig, it seems amazing. I assume there's some little thing I missed or something I pressed that I shouldn't have. Here are screen shots of both versions.

I am attempting to backup DVDs that I own to .iso format so that I'm able to watch them using xbox media center. I've simply been copying the entire DVD to my HD in .iso using brasero.When I watch the .iso file in XBMC, the audio is a fraction of a second ahead of the video. The gap between the audio and video doesn't seem to change over the duration of the clip.
What are the likely causes of this issue? I've read that it could be a slow processor, little ram, or inadequate video card. If it's indeed a hardware issue, I suppose I'm SOL with my current laptop: a 2006 dell with a core 2 duo processor, 2GB ram, and a middle of the road video card at that time.Is there any software tweak I can explore to get the .iso file to sync properly?Also, I know it's customary for posters to list their system specifications, but I don't know how to call up my software or hardware setups.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my problem is with this one video the preview icon in nautilus will not load for me. It's encoded the same as the other 120 videos on the drive and plays just fine in totem. I copied the video from another drive and the preview icon for the video is present on it. Just seems like it's not even attempting to create a preview icon, is there a way of making it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter ubuntu 10.10 upgrade (from 10.04), the Rhythmbox icon has disappeared. I open Rhythmbox, play some music, then close or mimimize the window (music continues, i.e. the program still operates from memory). But there is no panel icon anymore. Up to v. 10.04 I could reopen end control the program window via the panel icon.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently changed from Ubuntu 11.04 to Debian 6.0 and I'm having some trouble editing the applications menu. If I use alacarte to add sub-menus to the Games menu they appear in Applications>Debian>Games rather than Applications>Games. So I tried to do it the manual way. I created .desktop files for all my games and put them in ~/.local/share/applications here is an example:

Version=1.0

But none of my new sub-menus or menu entries in sub-menus appear in my menus or alacarte. I also tried using just categories in gnome-applications.menu but that didn't work either.So what I have at the moment is all my games in one long list, what am I doing wrong?
I'm trying to create an iso file in a terminal with the following command:
$cat /dev/sr0 > nameofdisk.iso
I get the following error
cat: /dev/sr0: Input/output error
I already checked and my optical drive is indeed /dev/sr0. I've hunted google a few hours trying to figure it out. Does anyone know why I'd be getting this error?
When I try to burn an ISO to a DVD it goes okay but when it's finalizing it says:
Creating image checksum
And then it just freezes.
I'm using ubuntu 10.4 and accidently removed the notification area from the top panel. Since then, I haven't been able to retrieve the icon. As I've read in many threads, I've added a new panel and added a notification error, but the area stays empty. (see screenshot) My other icons like the volume control and the amarok icon were gone as well, but setting up a new indicator applet did the trick. Still, the skype icon won't come back, I've even removed Skype and reinstalled it, but nothing changed. how I could get the icon back again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a $400 Dell Vostro V130, and decided to put 10.10 netbook remix onto it. (Vostro V130 owners: after the reboot into the new system, there is no GUI. worse, after log in, a startx means the screen goes dead. fortunately, a power key event is still detected, so reboot still works cleanly. after I did a full apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade, and apt-get upgrade, the screen and remix worked.)
I would now like to increase the bass, systemwide (so that ..... gets sound that is a little better). the speaker icon on the top right gets me into sound preferences, but I do not see an equalizer.
I removed my top panel with the menu (applications, places, system) because all icons were on the wrong place. Then I restored the panel and all applets I'm using, but when I log in to Emesene, the shortcut icon is not showing up. Does anyone know how to restore the Emesene shortcut icon?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm configuring a fresh install of Debian 8 and I'm having a problem creating new user accounts, using XFCE.I'm using the console for setting new user accounts, without any problems yet when I log in the user accounts to check if everything is ready to use I get a persistent message from the system warning the session is in kiosk mode.I've went through several step by step guides I've found over the net, went to the XFCE wiki trying to find an answer for this, with no success. I've even tried deleting user accounts and recreating it but the problem persists.
