Ubuntu Multimedia :: Speaker Icon On The Top Right Gets Into Sound Preferences

Jan 13, 2011

I bought a $400 Dell Vostro V130, and decided to put 10.10 netbook remix onto it. (Vostro V130 owners: after the reboot into the new system, there is no GUI. worse, after log in, a startx means the screen goes dead. fortunately, a power key event is still detected, so reboot still works cleanly. after I did a full apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade, and apt-get upgrade, the screen and remix worked.)

I would now like to increase the bass, systemwide (so that ..... gets sound that is a little better). the speaker icon on the top right gets me into sound preferences, but I do not see an equalizer.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Get A 'snap-sound' In Computer Sound From Center Speaker

Nov 29, 2010

For a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)

My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?

Every time I open "sound preferences" from either the sound applet or the preferences menu pulseaudio CPU usage goes right up to 100% and proceeds to lock up the entire computer. pavucontrol, paman, and all the other pulseaudio utils work fine, except for ubuntu's sound preferences. It affects a new account. This is my 10.04 desktop that is affected. I have just the default pulseaudio config.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 2.1 Sound Instead Of 5.1except With Speaker-Test?

May 21, 2010

I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, so please forgive me if I seem a little ... After installing Lucid Lynx, I had some sound issues that I've been attacking over the past few days. I've gotten it down to the point where .mp3s and other sound effects play on 2.1, instead of my full 5.1 setup, with the exception of using
Code: speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -l1 -twav which will play from every speaker. Relatedly, I have no volume control icon in my toolbar, and when I go to System --> Preferences --> Sound, an error window pops up that says, "Waiting for Sound System to Respond." Currently, I am using the ALSA Mixer GUI to adjust my volume and whatnot. My sound card is a Sound Blaster Audigy SE CA106, and here's the yield from various terminal commands:

Code:
uname -a
Linux DeskingtonJefferson 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Code:
aplay -l

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Speaker Sound In Lucid - Headphones Work Ok

Oct 2, 2010

I have bought a laptop 2 months ago with pre installed windows7 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit but still didnt get sound from the speakers. With headphones everything is OK . I have unmuted everything and searched forums but nothing so far. In windows I get speaker sound so it is not hardware problem. In alsamixer it appears I have 2 soundcards, one HDA -intel (chip Realtek ALC272) and a second one HDA nvidia ( a virtual one propably from my nvidia VGA ) that lacks controls . With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Tried to disable the first one from bios but it didnt help I also tried sound adjustment in preferences -> sound and gnome-alsamixer, nothing From gnome alsamixer, when I mute speakers, the headphones also get mute so may be the system doesnt recognize speakers and headphones separately ? May be it has to do with config files but my linux knowledge is low

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound From Rear Speaker But Front Works?

Feb 3, 2011

I recently bought an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-570t. Except for the fact that I can't get the back speaker jack to work, Maverick works great. Here's info that seems relevant:

aplay -l
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: HDA Generic [HDA Generic]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

[Code]....

I've look at Alsa Mixer. There are two tabs (IDT ID 76c7 and ATI R6xx HDMI). I turned the second one off, since I don't have any HDMI sound output device connected to the computer. On the other tab, there are five sliders (Master, PCM, Front Mi, Line and Mic). They are all turned on, and the first two are at maximum volume.

It seems to me that Ubuntu is not recognizing whatever controls the rear speaker jack.

I recently manage to make my microphone "work". I open the alsamixer and i unmuted the mic. Easy!!! But as i can hear my voice through the speakers i can't record. Actually i compare the alsamixer with the sound preferences. And what I notice is:

i)When i mute the output volume from the sound icon in the alsamixer is also muted.

ii)The same when I increase or decrease the volume.

iii)But in the input tab if I mute increase or decrease the volume nothing happens!

I can only mute unmute and change volume trhough the alsa mixer!

I use an Fujitsu siemens amilo pa 1510 with ubuntu 10.10 which I install from a pendrive.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Find Options Under System Menu For Sound Preferences

I have to use alsa for audio to work under wine (otherwise pulseaudio starts eating up processor cycles and the audio comes out horrible and distorted), but I have been unable to use the mic. The mic boost is up on the alsa mixer, and they are not muted. I cannot find any options under my system menu for Sound Preferences (which seems to get references in a lot fo help forums), or anywhere else to determine which audio driver the line in on the front uses.

I'm using an Acer laptop from a couple years ago, so support should be no problem.

Ubuntu :: Sound: Mic Doesn't Work - Audio Input Level Graphically Shown In Sound Preferences Shows No Fluctuations In Sound

Aug 3, 2010

I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.

Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

Fedora :: Speaker Icon On Task Bar Keeps Getting Changed

Dec 7, 2009

F12 completely patched. Can someone provide some insight into the various volume controls available and why they seem to conflict with each other? The incognito application that loads up on the task bar as a speaker icon keeps getting changed. I try to nail it at 100% but it keeps getting altered - how I don't know. BTW - I say its an incognito application as there is no way to identify what piece of software it actually represents. I assume it's the gnome-volume-control-applet, but there is no way to know for sure as it is devoid of any identification. I run rhythmbox and its volume control also gets altered from where I attempt to set it.

I assume that gnome-volume-control-applet is the master to set a limit on what anything else can do. I then assume that rhythmbos's volume control operates within the envelope that gnome-volume-control-applet allows. Both assumptions are probably wrong as nothing makes any sense. Maybe all the pulseaudio stuff is also in there somewhere messing with the controls, but I see no user space apps to influence pulseaudio. To top it off, I can push the volume control on rhythmbox around from 100% down to 16% and there is no discernible change in volume. When I hit 14% there is a halving of volume, and from there on down to 0% seems to function linearly as expected. Why is there this non responsive range between 16% and 100%?

Hardware :: Tinkered With Sound Preferences And Now There Is No Sound?

Jul 8, 2011

I am using ubuntu 11.04.

By the command : aplay -l | grep card
I got this output:
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272 Analog [ALC272 Analog]
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC272 Digital [ALC272 Digital]
card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]

[Code]...

I was tinkering with sound preferences, assuming that there would be something like "Reset to defaults" button, but there isnt. Earlier the sound was fine (not great quality, but it was there), but now its gone. I am attaching the status of my sound preference's hardware, input and output tab as a screenshot.

P.S. I know that most probably earlier in the hardware--->Profile option, "Analog stereo duplex" was selected. But selecting that doesnt work now. Also, isnt digital better than analog ? (why wasnt it something like digital stereo duplex, when I seem to have that ability in my sound card ?)
