Ubuntu Multimedia :: Converting Media Files With WinFF?

I'm tryin' to convert media files to other formats using winff.But nothing happens ! I mean a terminal window popping up and then nothing happens to the files , I tried many formats like (wmv,avi,flv,mp3,wma etc.) to others , and I have all prerequisites . I'm not sure
- ffmpeg (Multimedia player)
- Gstreamer ffmpeg video plugin (Codecs to play formats)
- libmp3lame
- libmp3lame (DEV - I thought that this could be useful)
I have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.
I copied some songs off a CD and wanted to convert them to mp3. Is there a program that I should have used to rip them that would have done that or is there a program that will convert them for me?
Is there a way (strictly in Ubuntu -- well I am viewing the noteworthy files under wine) to convert these files to lilypond format? I have tried the nwc2ly converter, but so far without any success. Any thoughts, or suggestions? You see I have a friend that has done a lot of Orthodox Music in NWC, but I want to get it into Lilypond as it will look better, and then I can easily convert to pdf, and easily change things if needed, etc. But I would rather not have to print and retype it all.
What's the accepted method for converting Mythtv's nuv files to avi files now?
I ask this because nuvexport seems to be unsupported these days. The last released version removed support for using transcode to convert the files. This leaves only mencoder and ffmpeg, and these have the following problems:
1) mencoder is much, much too slow. It takes about five times as long to convert a file as transcode ever did.
2) Ubuntu's ffmpeg is crippled, and doesn't work. I realise that there are instructions for installing a version of ffmpeg that works, but as this does not provide any method for creating Debian packages of it, I do not wish to pollute my filesystem with a mish-mash of manually installed software.
Is there any way to convert nuv files with transcode?
I have a whole bunch of wma files I want to convert to a more liked format like wv flac or shn. Shntool does not seem to want to do that soundconverter and soundkonverter both refuse too. My wma format is wma1 or wmal cannot tell if it is 1 the number or l the letter L. 1. They play in xine straight off. Xine is in your synaptic 2. To convert quickly install dBpoweramp under wine again quick and no fuss.
I am looking for a command line command to convert ~2500 .flac files to .ogg files. All of the .flac files are in one folder and I would like to have the .ogg files put in a folder labled OGG - I would like to retain song information etc if possible.
I have many .mkv files that have soft subs I'd like to convert so I can play them on my iPad. What Linux tool can I use to do this more of less automatically?
Hi am using winff, as converting video is a mystery to me. I have several avi files well about 26 of them. at about 8gb. now i have to convert them into avi again! so my divx dvd machine can read/play them.
I was wondering if I could compress them so they'd fit onto one dvd?
at present I select the 16:9, would the anamorfic be smaller? would it expand properly on my cheep divx dvd machine? I don't mind using the command line.
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and recorded a screencast with gtk-recordMyDesktop. Upon completion of the recording I attempted to convert the OGV file to an AVI, for ease of editing purposes, using WinFF.(And yes, I have installed libavcodec-unstripped-52) The result was an incredibly annoying error message Which stated:

I am trying to convert movies to mpeg4 or more specifically formatted to play on my blackberry curve. I followed installation guide from this tutorial [URL]. Everything installed and the program works but when I add a file and pick presets and hit convert the terminal pops up and says the following:

So I press Enter and the terminal closes, than... nothing happens just staring at the winff screen.
I really have no idea where to go with this. I found a link from the forums earlier on these common crashes but cant seem to find it again.
I am running 10.10 64-bit and am trying to get an option in WinFF to convert an MPEG file to an iPod compatible video. All of the HOT_TO guides I could find involve installing the FFmpeg libraries, which I have done as well as I could have.The problem is that within WinFF, I don't see anything different in the "Convert To ..." drop-down. The Wiki I am reading tells me to select iPod, but this isn't available.What do I need to do to get this to be selectable?
I want to be able to rip videos off ..... and put them on my ipod. I added installed "Download helper" which enables me to rip the videos off ..... in a flv format. When I try and convert the files to .mp4a (using the WinFF GUI) my terminal pops up and says "unknown encoder 'libx264'"
VLC Media player has been giving me a few problems and I'm hoping someone here has a fix for this issue.Yesterday I was playing an avi file and my browser, that was also running, froze up in the background. At the same time my video became choppy and started to freeze. I shut down firefox and vlc but when I opened it back up all of my avi files where greyed out. I've posted a request for help on the vlc forums but no one has responded. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's frustrating because my vlc player will still play dvd's but it won't play any avi files. Oh and I tried the drag and drop option per a suggestion but all I get is sound with no video. Lastly, I should mention that I'm a multi tasker and was also trouble shooting a problem I was having with amarok, which I've since uninstalled. Could amarok have some how screwed up my files? I've even uninstalled an reinstalled vlc but nothing works
script/app that can organize files according to their extensions? I have a bunch of files and subfolders containing other files and what I want is to organize them all in seperate folders(movies, music, images, archives).
How to play audio video files. When i try to run these files it says no suitable plug in found. What should i do. I am using xubuntu 11.04. Should i need to download vlc media player. I am completely newcomer to Linux so try to answer in very simple way.
I have a video - taken on my mobile phone. In totem, I get sound and video: lovely. However, in Openshot I don't get sounds, and in WinFF it tells me "Unsupported codec (id=7372" for the audio stream. Why, when both are using FFMpeg do the installed codecs work differently in different programs?
I am just asking because i want to be sure, that sensitive data can not be extracted from my computer unencrypted, using cached files. I am not sure what is happening with my music, but it's driving me mad and making me pull out my hair. My ID tags are not being read correctly through through both Rhythmbox and Banshee, but my tag editor, dBpoweramp, and Ubuntu properties reports the information correctly. All of my music is stored on another computer stream via the network. For example, I have an album by X Japan label as this:Track: Break the DarknessArtist: XAlbum: I'll Kill You EPYear: 1985
But banshee breaks up the album into two different albums, and on top of that, Banshee see it as X Japan, but reads it as X for the artist. And it's not just this album, it happens to a lot of my albums, sometimes they are missing tracks or mislabel or missing cover art, etc, etc, but only within the media player. I haven't used WinFF before yesterday. Looks simple so I tried to convert an AVI file of 600MB to DV and ended up with an 8GB conversion.For device preset I used Raw DV for Pal Fullscreen as I'm in Australia.Does WinFF always produce such large files?
i am using ubuntu lucid now and using ubuntu for 2years now.except nokia pc-suite i do not miss other s/w for windows.i tried to convert audio and video for using in nokia 5800,but i am not very successful mainly due to my inexperience.i installed winff and ffmpeg and searched a bit in this forum.found a few guides but mostly the converted files shows 'unable to play video or audio' in nokia 5800.

Just updated WinFF to version 1.3.2-1.1. Since then it won't start up any more due to a floating point exeption. System: OpenSUSE 11.4 (x86) + KDE 4.6.0 Debug info:

I had the same error with earlier versions of WinFF in earlier versions of OpenSUSE. Then I could fix it by changing the KDE window styles. The error also occurs with the WinFF qt-version.
