Ubuntu Multimedia :: Command Line For Converting .flac Files To .ogg?
Jan 6, 2010
I am looking for a command line command to convert ~2500 .flac files to .ogg files. All of the .flac files are in one folder and I would like to have the .ogg files put in a folder labled OGG - I would like to retain song information etc if possible.

I have a whole bunch of wma files I want to convert to a more liked format like wv flac or shn. Shntool does not seem to want to do that soundconverter and soundkonverter both refuse too. My wma format is wma1 or wmal cannot tell if it is 1 the number or l the letter L.
1. They play in xine straight off. Xine is in your synaptic
2. To convert quickly install dBpoweramp under wine again quick and no fuss.

I downloaded a couple of TTA files and they are just static on playback. Do I need a different codec or something? Converting the files to FLAC yielded the same results. I'm running a 10.04 64bit machine.

I converted using a simple app called sound converter to convert my mp4 vids to flac (because they were music i didn't need the picture.)
Which is bad because one of the main reasons I wanted to convert is because i thought removing video reduced the file size.
For example one file went from 6.4mb mp4 to a 19.7mb flac.

I've been a Linux user for 5 years, though this I only recently started using RPM based distros. I'm still in my first week using Fedora and I love it. Hats off to the development team. Now, onto my question:
I have a rather large collection of music in three different formats: MP3, OGG, and FLAC. I'd like to shrink my library by converting all the flac files to ogg. However, since I don't want to convert from lossy to lossy, I'm going to leave the mp3s alone. Is there a program that will allow me to do this quickly and easily? I'd prefer a GUI, though I'm comfortable working with the terminal if needed.

I thought this question's best category would be in the newbie sectionBasically I have a C code, (for simplicity is only prints a few lines), called printx.c that I would like to convert into a binary file so whenever I have to type "printx" in the command line it would execute the programofcourse gcc will give me a binary file if I do a "gcc printx.c", but even the output file (e.g. print.outwould have to be executed following manner./print.outI only ask, because I notice programs like mailx (which is written in C) is a binary file that could be run in this manner (at least that's what I notice on my ubuntu distro)

I have been searching for a while for a program to convert .flac files I rip off of cd's with my laptop (running Fedora 11) to a usable iTunes format for my desktop (running Win XP). The cd drive on my desktop is currently broken, so my fix of ripping on my desktop, then using Rhythmbox on my laptop is temporarily unavailable.
Any suggestions? I've tried audiokonverter, soundconverter, audio-convert-mod and each come up with errors or wouldn't install.

install imagemagick python, and pygtk.
Code:
sudo apt-get install imagemagick python pygtk
Now save the following script somewhere as imgclip.py. This is a simple python script which takes an image file and puts it in the gnome-clipboard.
Code:
#! /usr/bin/python
import pygtk
pygtk.require('2.0')
[code]...

Amarok will play flac files just fine, but when i try to index them into the library via "Update collection" they are not added.
All other threads i can find on this kind of thing also have Amarok not playing flac....but if i drag and drop them in, they play just fine, so i know its not a codec problem.
Is there something i have to enable? Like in some media players, you can set which formats are scanned for...but i cant seem to find such a feature available in any of the Amarok settings...

Is there a command line utility to tell me about what's inside a video file? Say I have a .mpg file. I want to know about the video stream and the various audio streams, the codec used for the video stream, the bitrate of the video stream, and so on.

I have some downloaded files of radio programme from BBC which are .aac. I have never come across this type before. Googled it so now I am a bit wiser and VLC seems to play them without problem but they are not accepted by my upnp client devices which are happier with flac or mp3. I would prefer flac but what is the preferred conversion software.

Is there a way (strictly in Ubuntu -- well I am viewing the noteworthy files under wine) to convert these files to lilypond format? I have tried the nwc2ly converter, but so far without any success. Any thoughts, or suggestions? You see I have a friend that has done a lot of Orthodox Music in NWC, but I want to get it into Lilypond as it will look better, and then I can easily convert to pdf, and easily change things if needed, etc. But I would rather not have to print and retype it all.

What's the accepted method for converting Mythtv's nuv files to avi files now?
I ask this because nuvexport seems to be unsupported these days. The last released version removed support for using transcode to convert the files. This leaves only mencoder and ffmpeg, and these have the following problems:
1) mencoder is much, much too slow. It takes about five times as long to convert a file as transcode ever did.
2) Ubuntu's ffmpeg is crippled, and doesn't work. I realise that there are instructions for installing a version of ffmpeg that works, but as this does not provide any method for creating Debian packages of it, I do not wish to pollute my filesystem with a mish-mash of manually installed software.
Is there any way to convert nuv files with transcode?

I'm tryin' to convert media files to other formats using winff. But nothing happens ! I mean a terminal window popping up and then nothing happens to the files , I tried many formats like (wmv,avi,flv,mp3,wma etc.) to others , and I have all prerequisites . I'm not sure
- ffmpeg (Multimedia player)
- Gstreamer ffmpeg video plugin (Codecs to play formats)
- libmp3lame
- libmp3lame (DEV - I thought that this could be useful)
and this is an image off winFF on my desktop ,

Is there a method at the command line to copy files from one location to another and retain the source files group and user?I'm migrating some MySQL files from one machine to another.I want to back-up the original files in the directory presently. They have owner:group of mysql, some have owner:group root:mysql and so on. To copy them under cli or Nautilus everything changes to root for I execute sudo cp or gksudo nautilus and copy via gui.
Since it is MySQL data I could simply do a dump of the database and restore it on the other machine. But there's about 20 db's and I want to do this via a copy for it will be faster - at least that is what I think.

I have a laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 which appears to be completely wrecked. Even in recovery mode I can't get any GUI. The only access I can get is via command line, which with my limited knowledge of cd and ls commands shows me that the home directory is OK and all the data files present.
How can I get the data files off this machine, eg by copying them to a usb stick, or maybe by copying them to the Windows partition (which still works OK)?

Some time ago I installed LAMP in my server, but now I need to execute .php files from the command-line (in order to execute some manteinance scripts for mediawiki). Seems that the PHP files running in the server are run thru some kind of "module" in apache2. Can I tell apache2 to run a .php file in command-line mode using that php module? Or should I install a fresh copy of php-5? Won't that interfere with apache or mangle the system?

command line, I have a server for work that I ssh into and I need to be able to find multiple files (they have the leading text just the date identifier changes) and then zip the files (with bzip) them and then finally scp(Secure copy) them to another server.
These files are always in the same directory and this is a daily task and just want to make into a script that I run once I am logged into the remote server.

Is there a way to remove duplicate files from a specific folder through SSH? I've uploaded a lot of flash games on my server and I can see in the Webmin's file manager that I have many duplicates. Their names are different, of course.
