View 3 RepliesI would like to do something which I guess is pretty common: convert my collection of CDs to good quality mp3, named according to artist-song and properly tagged. Having to rip hundreds of CDs (i am not rich, i just live in China! ) I would like this to be as automatic as possible, like: insert cd wait 4 minutes (sw gets tracks' name and tags from the internet, and rips) CD is ejected automaticallyinsert new cd ...and so on If I was on windows, i would probably be doing this with itunes. Juicer does not support MP3. I read great things about rubyripper, but i dont understand how to make it start automatically.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed krdc in Debian 7 amd64 desktop (with KDE), but I cannot connect to anything with it:
"Connect to" combobox is empty. Entering "rdp://Username@192.168.1.2" shows messagebox "The entered address cannot be handled". "Plugins" list is empty. "apt-cache search krdc" does not suggest any kind of "-plugn"'s that I could install. Deleting "~/.kde/share/config/krdcrc" does not work.
If launched inside terminal, it outputs this:

While rdesktop is installed and works OK, krdc looks like is dead-unsusable. Or at least it's usibility is hidden somewhere.
How do I make it work? Or should I report a bug?
Occasionally I get on lenny an empty system tray when logging in KDE, no right click menu, no icons. The previous session had been closed regularly. Is there a way to properly shutdown in the circumstances and to fix the problem?
(I don't know whether this has something to do with this but, in the past, on typing by mistake the print screen key, I got multiple instances of ksnapshot launched automatically and had to delete the directory under 'home' ~/.kde/share/config/session and the file ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc to prevent this from repeating itself at every KDE login. The empty tray issue, however did not arise immediately after this, so it might be unrelated.)
I tried four cdrs and I can't get my dvd rom or dvd-rw to list the contents even though k3b says it was successful. If I open k3b it see the cdr and say sessions 1 appendable yes. I burned the cdr as multisession. I can only view the contents of the cdr by doing a continue multisession while in k3b. I'm using squeeze and kde.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Ooo 2.4 to Ooo 3.3, running it on Hardy. Everything seems to work fine, except for the dialogue window to open / save files.
In the previous version of Ooo I worked with, files were opened and saved by Nautilus. Now Ooo uses a different file manager which I don't like, because I can't jump quickly to my favourite maps and it's harder to navigate through my files. It has to be easy to have Nautilus again opening files, but I just can't find out how.
I'm blue in the face using chmod and chgrp. Both root and my own username are members of the cdrom group under the administration menus.The dialogue above displays, and then the disk icon appears afterwards, but it's very slow. Anyone have a clue about this?

This came up suddenly during a fast mouse click session. As root its OK. I would have liked to add a small image about this but i do not have any web site for this any more.

picture = 1000 words all those weird .rdf files shouldn't be there. I can't remove them through the subscribe dialogue. I can try deleting them, but they don't go away. I only posted here because I don't care to sign up for every forum for every piece of software I decide to use. Too many logins to remember
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've set up Samba under Ubuntu for windows SMB file sharing (currently unauthenticated but soon to be backed off against A.D.) This is great within Windows where l folders are available as mounted in all applications but from my Ubuntu desktop and Ubuntu laptops, we can only access network folders and files from the File browsers and bookmarks one finds in the "Places" menu. Our issue is that most (but not all) dialogue boxes don't have any options for viewing non-local files and folders. i.e. when I'm in my web browser and I go to upload a file from our local network file server to an internet location, the "Open" dialogue box cannot see any of our local network locations.

I have been trying to convince people to use Ubuntu instead of windows, but this seems to be a deal breaker for most of them. When uploading pictures to the web or facebook it is very difficult to navigate pictues in the file browser window with the little bitty thumbnails beside the file name. If there is no way to do this how would I recommend this idea for Ubuntu and to whom would I submit it?

I've mounted the volume and added locations to favorites. I've also tried entering an smb:// path. This only happens in browsers, both FFnd Chrome, some examples would be attaching a file in gmail, yousendit, etc. I can browse and work off the network normally in desktop apps.

I installed a new, clean hard drive into my old iMac G5, and decided to finally set up a linux machine, I installed Ubuntu 9.10 with the 64bit mac software, and the instal went very smooth, however now there are a few hardware issues.First, the cd/dvd drive loads disks, but the system does not recognize anything inserted, and wont play any media. Second, the built in airport card doesnt want to work either, I can see the icon for wireless at the top right of the screen and it lets me plug in my network name and security, but wont connect or see any wireless networks at all, however, ethernet works fine, and it is how I am able to get online now. Lastly, the screen is slightly shifted to the right and the far right of the screen wraps around to the left side of the screen, its not major, probably a 1/4 of an inch, but it is annoying.
I am sure these are likely driver issues, but when I go to Administration, and Hardware Drivers it does not say I need any drivers. and when I run through "system testing" it says that this version of ubuntu is not genuine, or something like that, but I just burned the install disk last night from ubuntu's website.
When I unlock the screen, I'm presented with an opaque dialogue (white box), regardless of whether I have a screen-saver or not. This is a cosmetic issue only because I can type my password to unlock the screen successfully, but I'd like a solution. I'm using oS 11.2 with KDE 4.5 (but the issue predates updating to 4.5).This is the only "issue" I've experienced since migrating my laptop (was Windoze 7) and desktop (was MS SQL server 2003) to oS
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu server 9.10. During the install the onboard 10/100 land card was automatically installed and was used for updating packages. I just put in a DGE-530T gigabit ethernet card. I can see it recognized under lspci.01:07.0 Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev 11) (rev 11). It does not show up under ifconfig. The CD came with linux drivers. The readme talked about recompiling the kernel and a whole bunch of other stuff. Google was equally confusing. What do I do?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter the updates about a week ago I noticed my system was hanging (screen and mouse frozen, unable to switch desktops, trl+Alt+SysRq+B still reboots) frequently. Though sometimes the system would not hang but become extremely sluggish and unresponsive. I've been able to determine that the problems occur whenever a module is added or removed. I can cause this problem with such commands as:
sudo modprobe aes
sudo rmmod raid0
I've tried multiple kernels but the problem persists. I've run memtest on the system but no errors have been found. I wonder if this could be some other sort of hardware problem but I'm suspicious that this began after a set of updates. I've seen message such as this in the kern.log:

I've tried using strace but that was not helpful. This is becoming a serious problem as I cannot load any encrypted volumes due to the inability to load the aes module. dpkg is currently in an interrupted state as the system hung when upgrading virtualbox-3.2 when it attempted to remove the modules. So my system is barely functional and I cannot see any way to fix things.
I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. Normally, when I put it to suspend to disk mode, it fails to wake up cleanly. I mean, it wakes up but the X is corrupted with lot of flickering. Ctrl + alt + backspace doesn't set it right. But when I insert my Photon Plus Broadband pendrive into the USB, the flickering immediately disappears and I am presented with the clean, shiny desktop. The problem is that the flickering doesn't stop until I insert the pendrive.
