Ubuntu :: Kodak Drivers Use Vbox ?
Oct 21, 2010I went to the Kodak website to see if I can download Kodak ESP 3200 series for Ubuntu, but it only has them for windows and MAC is there a way around this other than using VBOX?

May 23, 2010I'm thinking of buying one of the above as the HP 750 PCS I have hooked up to the wife's iMac is getting long in the tooth and is NOT well supported my Apple! It will either print or scan but not both without rebooting between tasks.One of the attractions of the Kodak is the cheap cost of ownership and they appear to be supported my Apple so that would be good! But what about Ubuntu support as a network printer?

Jul 19, 2010I bought a Kodak 5300 printer/scanner a year and a half ago and then found that it would not work under 9.04. So I packed it away. Now I find reports on this website that it can be made to function properly on Lucid Lucy.
I find references to the printer all over the place, but when I try to print something nothing happens. I tried the print routine in 'gimp', 'gedit', 'thunderbird, and 'firefox'.The printer as a stand alone will copy and scan. About a year and a half ago it was connected to a Windows machine and worked.The Samsung you see works just fine.

Sep 20, 2010ubuntu and fairly inexperienced in getting things to work. I recently bought a Kodak s100 webcam. I can get a few frames on cheese, skype, or guvcview. After that, the video feed goes to black screen. I have tried a few things I found in the forum, but have not been able to find a fix yet. Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working? Also, the webcam has a built-in microphone which I'm having trouble getting programs to recognize, such as skype.

Apr 21, 2011I an an HP Pavillion laptop with SuSE 11.4. I had 11.3 working but I had to upgrade (install, not update due to other issues).
Now, when I go to YAST2 ->Hardware->printer->Print via network->Connection Wizard-> TCP Port and set the IP address and hit TEST CONNECTION I get an "OK". I select "Kodak" as the printer manufacturer and get these as my driver choices.
It uses port 9100 which looks open. I pick one driver and YAST creates the config. I then hit "Print test page" and nothing happens. This happens with either driver and a couple I downloaded from who knows where.
The printer is a Kodak ESP 5210 that runs with Windows 7 and Vista on the same network. Any ideas? Any tools I can use to sniff it out? I dropped the firewall to no avail, moved to the internal zone, no joy. It worked under 11.3 but I did not record the configuration steps or setup.

May 2, 2010I have overlooked some very important tools that would give me the information I'm looking for. What I'm trying to do is -
Plug in a USB camera
find /dev/camera-pseudonym
mount /dev/camera-pseudonym /camera
cp * ~/pictures
umount /dev/camera-pseudonym
and then work on adding this camera to /etc/fstab so that it will automatically mount to the usual place. I don't know how to find the pseudonym. I can, lsusb and see Bus 004 Device 009: ID 040a:05c1 Kodak Co. Digital Camera I can fdisk -l and not see any new partitions (which, with most USB devices with storage, I can usually see the partition listed in fdisk -l) After these two commands related to search FOR the pseudonym, I draw a blank and resort to manually searching /dev for things that may be useful.
This is difficult, though, because there are dozens of files named usb-something, and they're all very similar to one another, and not related to typical pseudonyms I'm used to (like /dev/usb[0-9], /dev/sd[a-z], etc) I would like to be able to find the /dev entry based on the ID 040a:05c1 because every USB devices I've tried has been listed by lsusb, and is accompanied by an ID number.How do I find the pseudonym in /dev for any usb device?

Mar 9, 2010I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and recently installed Virtualbox PUEL edition that I downloaded from the Virtual box website. So I installed a virtual windows XP and it works fine. However, when the virtual XP is running, my computer can't go to hibernate when I click the hibernate button.The screen just turns black for several seconds and then brings me back to the login screen. When I shut down the virtual xp, the computer can go to hibernate the normal way.Why is it that running the virtual machine prevents my pc from hibernating?Is there a setting to enable hibernation while the virtual machine is running?

Sep 13, 2010I put vbox on my wife's Dell Inspiron 6000 to play Netflix but the video won't play. After buffering it says there's an "internet connection problem". From what I've read that means the connection is too slow. Netflix works fine on my wired desktop (also Lucid+vbox) and on the same laptop booting into Windows (not VM). So I'm thinking there's a problem with vbox slowing the connection between the laptop's wireless and the VM?
I don't know if it will help with Netflix but 2D video acceleration is grayed out on vbox. Strangely, the 3D acceleration is fine and I can select it. If this is due to an unsupported video driver, can I change it?
Ubuntu :: VBox Guest Cannot Access Internet?
Aug 27, 2010I have a virtual XP as guest in VirtualBox on a computer running Hardy. I used to be able to access the internet from the virtual XP, using Internet Explorer or Google Chrome with no problem - it just used the Ubuntu host's connection, whch it seemed to see as a "NAT Adapter".
It still sees this NAT connection - if I hover the pointer over the Network icon in VBox it says "Adapter 1 (NAT): cable connected". And if I use Firefox from the host OS, it connects just fine.
Why can the virtual XP no longer access the internet?

Aug 6, 2011I have Vbox 4.0.4_OSE installed on my 11.4/KDE4.7 Laptop with Win7 and WinXP VMs installed. Generally runs well, although the Win7 VM seems to lock up on occasion if I ignore it for too long. Compared to having to reboot to Win7 to do the few things still stuck on Windoze, it is a GREAT solution.
Question: I have seen several forum items related to difficulty with dual boot systems and the installation of Win7SP1, regarding SP1s checking the MBR for the Win7 boot loader. Has anyone done a SP1 update to a VM on Vbox? It is sort of unclear what SP1 might see in the VM disk container associated with the VM. Since the initial load process for a new VM is time consuming, I thought I would ask first before blowing up my otherwise working Vbox system and then having to reload from scratch.
Ubuntu :: VBOX Setup Location & Memory Settings?
Jan 5, 2010I have a few questions about VBOX.
My system now is a dual boot computer with Ubuntu and Winxp each on there own HD. The system has 4gb memory with a 512mb Nvidia video card.
1. If I understand it correctly, VBOX installs it's own copy of Windows to a directory. I can't piont it to the Winxp that I already have installed on the other HD?
2. VBOX has a two sliders for Memory, one for System and the other for Video. Do any of you have a system such as mine and would you have any suggestions for the two sliders settings?

Jul 15, 2011In my home network I have two ubuntu desktops that are connected to a router. On each pc I have installed Virtual Box 3.2 and various OSes. I need to sometimes run multiple vm's at the same time which is very RAM intensive so I was wondering if there is any way to connect VM's on different hosts so that they appear they are in the same network? Various articles that show up as search results hardly pertain to what I want to do. Basically, I would like to make vm's visible in the network but on different hosts and with ip addresses that would reflect that those vm's are on a same network. Like ubuntu 1 has vm's a and b and ubuntu 2 has c and d. When I start all of the vm's, I would like them to connect to each other just like they are in the same network without "knowing" they are on different hosts.
