Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Settings Are Not Saved?

May 7, 2011

I am running a dedicated audio PC (Ubuntu 10.04 on Intel Atom 525) with a Juli@ sound card. I had everything set up and working great up until I accidentally pulled the sound card out of its slot while the computer was running. After that, the computer no longer recognized the Juli@ card.

I managed to fix the basic problem by following the Comprehensive Sound Problem Solution Guide- deleting and reinstalling ALSA is what did the trick. The only problem remaining is that the computer no longer remembers the output settings in the Sound Preferences dialog. The setting stays for as long as the computer is on, but as soon as I turn it off and reboot it, the sound output setting reverts back to the internal audio. I tried 'sudo alsactl store 1', but this does not work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Fedora :: Sound Settings Not Saved (FC15 & Gnome Shell)

Jun 23, 2011

Not sure if others have noticed this. When I go into sound settings, click the output tab, select the sound device I want to edit and change the bass levels etc, close the window and go back in all the settings are reset to default and no changes are saved.

If I leave the window open and make the changes they are reflected in VLC for example, but if I close the window it again resets to defaults and my Bass is back at Maximum....

Is this a BUG I should report or is there something I can download to get this configured elsewhere or to fix this issue? I seem to recall something similar in Fedora 14 that was fixed, but I cant remember how I did it now

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound. How To Restore Default Sound Driver/settings

I have no sound, is it possible to restore the default sound drivers/settings in 10.04?It was work well before except for one issue, I couldn't get mic in for Rosetta Stone using wine. I have followed so many howto's to try and get Rosetta Stone working and then my sound working again.I think this is my main problem I upgraded alsa to "alsa-driver-1.0.23". Ubuntu :: Where Are Wireless Settings Saved?

May 21, 2010

For various reasons, I have reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 three times on my laptop. The 2nd time I reinstalled it, when I would connect to a wireless network, it would say connected but the network manager icon at the top panel said disconnected. What confused me is when I booted up during the 2nd install, it connected to my wireless without a problem. Is wireless info (saved networks, etc) saved in the home directory somewhere??

I didn't have the icon problem the first time, so I thought hmm, I have my stuff backed up, let's try it again except let's format everything this time. The third time I had no issues with the icon saying disconnected. My partitions are split with /root and /home. The first 2 times, I did not format home. The third time I did. Even though the first time I didn't have this issue, I couldn't understand why it popped up the 2nd time. Now that I formatted EVERYTHING, the issue isn't there.

AKA:
1st try - no issues - did not format home.
2nd try - icon says disconnected when connected - did not format home.
3rd try - no issues - formatted everything.

Ubuntu :: Desktop Settings Not Saved / What To Do?

Jul 27, 2010

It's weird - every time I restart Ubuntu, my screen settings are at 1024x768@60Hz. When I change them to my preferred settings, this will completely destroy the order I like about my panel icons and it starts to suck.
I use an Onboard Intel graphics card.
Any advice on what to do?

Fedora :: Settings Not Being Saved

Jun 13, 2010

I'm new to Fedora; been using it for just a few hours. I have Fedora 10 setup on a LiveUSB and it works great. However, any setting that I make or files I save are gone when I reboot. For instance, I change the mouse cursor speed and made a "Test" word doc and saved it to the desktop. Yet when I reboot, the "Test" file is gone and does not even show as a recent document and the mouse speed setting was set back to default.Am I missing something that need to be accomplished prier to the shutdown?

Ubuntu :: Screen Settings Not Saved After Reboot?

Feb 11, 2011

I know this has been covered before but I can't find a resolution to the issue. Kubuntu simply refuses to save the screen settings, and each time I reboot it returns to 1440 x 900. The correct resolution should be 1920 x 1080.

KRandr shows 1440x900 (auto) in its drop down Size field. I've set krandr to load on startup so that I can set the correct resolution but of course this means I have to set the panel size as well. I've only recently installed KUbuntu and it's great except for this issue. Surely there must be a simple fix? I'm not a noobie and have about 4 years experience on Ubuntu / openSuse etc.

Problem is that when I want to change some settings in the power management (like brightness, screen energy saving time-off, display dim), they doesn't seem to save, even after the X restart and full reboot. It's seems like screen energy saving is set permanently for couple of minutes, don't matter what time do i set, it just discards my settings, even they are correctly viewed in the gui.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Settings Resetting

Dec 10, 2010

10.10 x64. This did not occur before I dist-upgraded from 10.04.I use a USB headset that has always "just worked," as long as I have it selected under both Input and Output in Sound Preferences. Now, periodically I'll hear a pop in my headset, the music/sound will mute for a second, and then come back louder. What's happening is that in Sound Preferences, the default selections are being reset. The sound comes back louder because of my volume settings. Additionally, on boot I run a script to set a few keybindings I use for Ventrilo. When all of this happens, I have to run this script again to get the bindings back.

To fix it, I have to go into sound preferences, select my headset in both Input and Output, fiddle with the volume so it returns to normal, and then rerun my binding script. My first guess was that the headset's connection is "farting", like it'd do a disconnect/reconnect, and Ubuntu deals with it by selecting visible hardware. But I can't for the life of me reproduce it. It just happens randomly.I guess it's possible that the script's issue is related to ventrilo/wine, and not a direct result of this sound issue. I'm mentioning it in case it isn't.I reproduced it by pulling the USB cable out and putting it back in. So there's either a short or Ubuntu is resetting the USB port periodically. Does it drop ports like that?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Keeps Losing Settings Every Reboot?

Jan 4, 2010

My system (Ubuntu 9.10 Gnome Desktop) keeps 'forgetting' my sound settings. every day I have to go into sound preferences and select a different hardware device setting and then change it back to the right one in order for it to work. For instance my sound goes out of my onboard intel based sound via optical to my amp and so the hardware setting for this is IEC598 output + analog stereo input But everytime I boot their is no sound (and hence no light coming through the optical cable) so then I'll change it to Analog surround and the light comes out so then I can change it back to the 1st setting and it works again. Hope that makes sense, I have had this problem and also my video settings have been 'forgotten' and samba also won't work ever since about 4 days ago when the system updated, everything was working fine before that (i have run update manager since and everything is up to date)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Revert To Default Sound Settings

Oct 25, 2010

Since I installed the system-wide equalizer I've been having some problems with my sound system. The problem is it has changed some system settings (visible in gconf) and after I uninstall it, I can't change any sound settings, except the volume in a given application, but the system-wide volume doesn't work, even the tray icon shows three dashes next to the little speaker and the sound settings won't start. I'd like to revert the settings to the original after removing the equalizer, as at this moment I can't change any settings even with the equalizer enabled. Is there any way to reset the sound settings

(I suppose it must be in gconf, but I don't know what the values should be. Currently the musicaudiosink settings are: audioresample ! audioamplify amplification=0 ! pulsesinkv)

Those are the settings that definitely changed after installing the equalizer, but they obviously won't change back after uninstalling it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Acquire Sound Drivers And Settings Panel

Jun 7, 2010

I've just moved from Ubuntu 9.04 and installed 10.04. I have 5.1 sound set up and selected the Analogue Surround 5.1 in the hardware selection. I'm using on board sound so i have the correct device selected. I have sound but my problem comes when trying to adjust the balance and sub etc. I can move the subwoofer on its own and set the fade on its own but if i try to change the balance the fade moves with it (not always in the same way, sometimes it fades to the rear, some times to the front). Also, when i move the master volume the subwoofer level follows it.Is there a fix for this problem?

Also how can i acquire the sound drivers and settings panel that where in 9.04 if not? will they still be comparable with 10.04?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Kdenlive Crashes When Loading Project With Saved Audio Track

Sep 20, 2010

I'm currently on vacation, and noted that the kdenlive version on my laptop (running 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 with KDE-4.4.4) will crash when loading a kdenlive file that has an audio track previously saved.

ie one can no longer reload a project, after saving it, if one has an audio track in the project.

I note my desktop (just before I went on vacation) did not have this behaviour. Has anyone else encountered this?

When I get back from vacation, I'll compare the packages between the two (ie between laptop and desktop). I note these packages on my laptop, which may or may not be relevant.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Via Vt1708s Azalia No Sound When Starting Jack Sound Server?

Jun 7, 2011

After installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.

I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.

I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.

Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?

Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server

if this helps, here is the error message received when jack does not start when the normal duplex option is selected.

21:24:04.867 Patchbay deactivated.
21:24:04.868 Statistics reset.
21:24:04.886 ALSA connection change.

also, when i open alsamixer in the terminal for some reason the headphone part is greyed out, even when the sound is working before qjackctl is opened.
